The geometry of syntax and semantics for directed file transformations

We introduce a conceptual framework that associates syntax and semantics with vertical and horizontal directions in principal bundles and related constructions. This notion of geometry corresponds to a mechanism for performing goal-directed file transformations such as "eliminate unsafe syntax" and suggests various engineering practices

Reconstruction of Defects by Ultrasonic Testing Using Synthetic Aperture Procedures

The three methods ALOK (Amplitude Time Locus Curves), PHASED ARRAY and LSAFT (Line-Synthetic-Aperture-Focussing-Technique) use the method of synthesizing a large aperture by moving a probe. The result is a high lateral resolution and the capability to focus into the farfield of the probe. As pointed out in Fig.1, a focal probe focusses only in one depth within the near field length. The PHASED ARRAY probe allows to change this focal distance within the near field length electronically. The SAFT-method allows to focus in all depths simultaneously within the near field length which is given not by the probe diameter D but by the synthetic aperture D’

    Formulaic Deliberation

Formulaic Deliberation describes the major interpretive regimes--textualism, intentionalism, purposivism, and pragmatism—and represents them formulaically. By classifying them this way, it more precisely describes them as theories, so that we can more precisely perform them as deliberative techniques. And, if we agree that none of them, individually, fits all cases at all times, we can formulaically describe how to synthesize them toward a discrete decision. William Eskridge, Stanley Fish, Hon. Antonin Scalia, Richard Posner, Ronald Dworkin, John Hart Ely, Adrian Vermeule, Hon. Stephen Breyer, Cass Sunstein, Lawrence Lessig. All of them are right, their method for deciding cases produces benefits with regard to justice, predictability and democratic legitimacy. All of them are wrong, their method for deciding cases produces costs with respect to the same set of ideals. But what they really have in common is the acceptance of text, intent, and foreseeable consequences as functions to be considered in determining what the law “is.” Thus, in my opinion, the best way to teach law begins with a neo-Langdellian case method, one deducing not only legal rules and their hierarchies but also the prioritization and harmonization of important social agreements supporting federal appellate decisions. In other words, let us examine cases not just for the rule synthesis, but also for the dicta identifying which of our vast social agreements were at play

The Effects of a Narrative Intervention on Gender Attitudes in Students at a Christian University: A Study on Narrative Persuasion

This study analyzes how identification, empathy, and perspective-taking influence prejudiced attitudes towards women. Through utilizing a narrative intervention alongside measures of prejudiced attitudes, empathetic capacity, and narrative identification, this study documents how students at a Christian university in the southern United States (n = 100) responded to narrative persuasion. While analyses revealed that the narrative intervention was ineffective in significantly affecting prejudiced attitudes towards women, participants’ empathy levels were positively correlated with character identification, further elucidating the process of perspective-taking. Despite some non-significant results, this study sheds light on the role of narrative persuasion on students at a Christian university and points to future research on the development of interventions aimed at mitigating prejudiced attitudes within this specific demographic

Zero, Śūnya and Pūrṇa: A Comparative Analysis

Due to apparent duality in this world, one has to face a lot of difficulties while searching for the Truth. Our ego is the root cause for perception of duality and this in turn leads to suffering. This suffering can only be extinguished by attainment of the Truth, i.e, non-duality. However, in order to enable the finite intellect to comprehend the incomprehensible non-duality, this undifferentiated whole is sometimes denoted by nothingness (śūnya) or fullness (pūrṇa). Non-duality is usually understood by the numeral ‘1’ which stands for unity or oneness. The main aim of this paper is to show that non-duality is best represented by the numeral ‘0’, Mādhyamika śūnya (advaya) and Upaniṣadic pūrṇa (advaita). This paper also attempts to touch upon the hitherto untouched and profound implications of zero in view of its being a simultaneous indicator of nothingness as well as wholeness. It also humbly tries to tackle the perpetual mathematical problem of ‘zero divided by zero’ and in this regard tries to establish how the solution is consistent with the concept of non-duality. In a nutshell, this paper’s endeavour is to approach the Ultimate Reality via threefold path: through the neutral means of mathematical zero “0” as a concept, negative means of Mādhyamika śūnya, and the positive means of Advaita Vedānta’s pūrṇa
