Walley School Community Arts Center Feasibility Study: Appendices

Having a large capacity (over 300 seats) in Walley School demands a major investment in space and cost. Taking this into consideration, the business planning team conducted research and spoke with several individuals in an attempt to inventory and assess the community’s auditorium capabilities. Our research on existing auditorium spaces uncovered many interesting things. We found that there are over 15 existing auditorium spaces available within a 17-mile radius from the Walley School building available for public use

Evaluation of the Food and Nutrition Guidelines series

The Food and Nutrition Guidelines Series includes five population-specific documents that provide evidence based technical information on food, nutrition and physical activity for health practitioners. This report describes the independent evaluation of the Guidelines undertaken in 2011. The evaluation mainly involved key informant and stakeholder interviews and an electronic survey of health practitioners who are the target audience for the Guidelines. The evaluation findings indicate that the Guidelines are valued highly by the broad range of health practitioners who use them and are seen by many as essential to safe practice for all practitioners who provide advice or education in nutrition. Evaluation participants were unanimous in their view that the Guidelines need to be retained, albeit in a form that is more accessible to a wider range of health practitioners and others and updated more frequently

On Message: Using Strategic Communications to Advance Social Change in Black and Latino Communities

This report aims to highlight examples of efforts involving black- and latino-serving nonprofits that utilize strategic communications to enhance their advocacy work and improve opportunities in communities of color. a project of the abfe/hip initiative, this publication is informed by the findings of a nationwide scan to identify groups taking the lead to integrate strategic communications in their advocacy, organizing, and social change efforts in black and latino communities. conducted in 2007, the scan included an analysis of emerging research in nonprofit communications; a cataloging of the notable successes of several nonprofits and coalitions across the country; an online survey of grantmakers with an interest in high-priority issues in black and latino communities; and follow-up interviews with nonprofit leaders and the grantmakers funding their work. the scan also included information gathered under the guidance of a national advisory committee of media practitioners, grantmakers, advocates, researchers, and nonprofit leaders who volunteered, at the request of abfe and hip, to provide structure and lend leadership to the research

DEFRA Clothing Action Plan

As part of Defra’s Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) programme, a voluntary clothing industry initiative was co-ordinated by Defra with the aim to improve the environmental and ethical performance of clothing. The Sustainable Clothing Roadmap aims to improve the environmental and social performance of clothing, building on existing initiatives and by co-ordinating action by key clothing supply chain stakeholders. Although organisations in the clothing supply chain have already taken significant steps to reduce adverse environmental and social impacts, further industry-wide co-operation and agreed commitments will enable that process to accelerate. That is the rationale behind the collaborative nature of the roadmap. The DEFRA initiative is now a WRAP (Waste Resources Action Plan) initiative. Selecting interventions to promote fruit and vegetable consumption: from policy to action, a planning framework case study in Western Australia

The Department of Health in Western Australia identified access to, and daily consumption of recommended amounts of fruit and vegetables, as priority health determinants. The numerous factors that influence supply and consumption of fruit and vegetables indicated that a comprehensive approach would be required. A government and non-government sector steering group was set up to select priority interventions using the National Public Health Partnership\u27s Framework for Implementing Public Health Strategies. This structured framework was used for developing strategies to improve fruit and vegetable consumption and supply, and to identify implementation priorities. After one year a desktop audit of progress on framework interventions was undertaken

‘The teacher is here to ask for your help’: A story of schools, employers and networks.

This paper explores the development of the Jobs4Kids (J4K) campaign, a joint initiative of the SGR LLEN Employer Reference Group and the Beacon Foundation. Involving a three-year business plan, the J4K campaign aims to broker young people into employment in local jobs in the region. The campaign is the result of the intersection between an evolving project within the LLEN and the growth of an established program of the Beacon Foundation. The paper will use a Deleuzian lens to explore the ground shifts that have occurred in the process of forming this connection; I am concerned with the intersecting movements of different orders that have created a necessary transitory coordination. Within such a ‘rhizome’ there are only lines: dimensional lines of segmentarity and stratification and lines of flight as ‘the maximum dimension after which the multiplicity undergoes metamorphosis, changes in nature’ (Deleuze & Guattari 1987 p.21). My perspective of this metamorphosis is specifically focused on SGR LLEN; I close with a consideration of the possibilities of this change in nature for the continuing work of the LLEN
