A conceptual study on Islamic corporate governance model in curtailing bank’s fraud

    Get PDF
The paper intends to discuss the concepts, framework, structure of fraud, and its two contending theories i.e. Fraud Triangle Theory and Fraud Diamond Theory. The paper also intends to analyse the concept of Islamic corporate governance, its theories and the popular theory of Shariah Enterprise Theory (S.E.T), which if properly implemented and giving a sound attention, the issue of fraud in Islamic banks will be a thing of the past. After the extend literature review this paper proposed model as re-examined by some scholars, to see whether the model is viable in today’s multi-faith, and multi-cultural society of 21th century and the likely challenges it might face

Zero Sound in Strange Metallic Holography

One way to model the strange metal phase of certain materials is via a holographic description in terms of probe D-branes in a Lifshitz spacetime, characterised by a dynamical exponent z. The background geometry is dual to a strongly-interacting quantum critical theory while the probe D-branes are dual to a finite density of charge carriers that can exhibit the characteristic properties of strange metals. We compute holographically the low-frequency and low-momentum form of the charge density and current retarded Green's functions in these systems for massless charge carriers. The results reveal a quasi-particle excitation when z<2, which in analogy with Landau Fermi liquids we call zero sound. The real part of the dispersion relation depends on momentum k linearly, while the imaginary part goes as k^2/z. When z is greater than or equal to 2 the zero sound is not a well-defined quasi-particle. We also compute the frequency-dependent conductivity in arbitrary spacetime dimensions. Using that as a measure of the charge current spectral function, we find that the zero sound appears only when the spectral function consists of a single delta function at zero frequency.Comment: 20 pages, v2 minor corrections, extended discussion in sections 5 and 6, added one footnote and four references, version published in JHE

Effect of visual characteristics of residential areas on soundscape in high density cities in China

Taking residential areas with different floor area ratios as an example, this study investigated the effect of visual changes in building floor area ratios and surface colour on sound attention, satisfaction, and the correlation between attention and satisfaction. Results were as follows: First, a change in the visual building floor area ratio affected birdsong attention (p = 0.043), wind satisfaction of sound (p = 0.028), and the correlation between attention and satisfaction for the sounds of birdsong and traffic. With an increase in the floor area ratio, the correlation coefficients between attention and satisfaction increased for the sound of birdsong but decreased for the sound of traffic. Second, a change in building surface colour affected the satisfaction of wind sound (p = 0.047) and footstep sound (p = 0.032) under different building densities, and the change in colour also affected the correlation between attention and satisfaction. The correlation between attention and satisfaction for the sounds of birdsong and traffic became irrelevant after a change in building colour, and a change in building colour caused a shift in people's attention from hearing to vision. These results indicate that the urban sound landscape can be improved by changing the colour of residential buildings. Keywords:residential areas, floor area ratio, sound, building colou

The modifiable areal unit problem in regional economics

    Get PDF
There is a very well known fundamental problem in spatial data analysis namely that all results of quantitative methods are potencially influenced by the way of spatial delimitation. This problem is mostly called modifiable areal unit problem (MAUP). However, beside the rich tradition in the empirical spatial data analysis, the effect of MAUP on putting forward and testing a theory and the effect on model-building is an issue rarely investigated. The MAUP creates the need for the investigation of the connection between theories and data and the micro-macro dualism. My paper presents the epistemological background of the problem and gives illustrations of the negative consequences of ignoring them in regional macroeconomics.

On the sound waves propagation in the Persian Gulf

    Get PDF
In this research I focused on the propagation of acoustic rays in shallow water areas then I selected the Persian Gulf and described sound transmission in this region with emphasize on physical properties of water masses and of sediments. Finally I studied on the sound speed variations and sound attention with data collected from this area (NE of Farsi Island & 50 kilometers south of Delware). Sound speed deviation in western part of Strait of Hormuz in winter is between 20-30 m/s and it is between 5-20 m/s in the Oman Sea. Minimum sound speed deviation is at 23-24 degree north & 60-62 degree east. In spring, this deviation varies from 25-35 m/s, which is greater than in winter. In winter, at east of 56 degree east, greater speed are in shallow water coastal areas. In summer, sound speeds are greater than in spring and vary from 35 to 55 m/s at western part of Strait of Hormuz and 20 to 40 m/s in Oman Sea. Finally in autumn, sound speed deviation is 30-45 m/s west of 56 degree east and in Oman Sea is the same. The greatest attenuation rate caused by absorption in Bandar Dayer is between 17 to 27 meters depth, which is from water masses with different densities
