k-Same-Siamese-GAN: k-Same Algorithm with Generative Adversarial Network for Facial Image De-identification with Hyperparameter Tuning and Mixed Precision Training
For a data holder, such as a hospital or a government entity, who has a
privately held collection of personal data, in which the revealing and/or
processing of the personal identifiable data is restricted and prohibited by
law. Then, "how can we ensure the data holder does conceal the identity of each
individual in the imagery of personal data while still preserving certain
useful aspects of the data after de-identification?" becomes a challenge issue.
In this work, we propose an approach towards high-resolution facial image
de-identification, called k-Same-Siamese-GAN, which leverages the
k-Same-Anonymity mechanism, the Generative Adversarial Network, and the
hyperparameter tuning methods. Moreover, to speed up model training and reduce
memory consumption, the mixed precision training technique is also applied to
make kSS-GAN provide guarantees regarding privacy protection on close-form
identities and be trained much more efficiently as well. Finally, to validate
its applicability, the proposed work has been applied to actual datasets - RafD
and CelebA for performance testing. Besides protecting privacy of
high-resolution facial images, the proposed system is also justified for its
ability in automating parameter tuning and breaking through the limitation of
the number of adjustable parameters
Prosodic-Enhanced Siamese Convolutional Neural Networks for Cross-Device Text-Independent Speaker Verification
In this paper a novel cross-device text-independent speaker verification
architecture is proposed. Majority of the state-of-the-art deep architectures
that are used for speaker verification tasks consider Mel-frequency cepstral
coefficients. In contrast, our proposed Siamese convolutional neural network
architecture uses Mel-frequency spectrogram coefficients to benefit from the
dependency of the adjacent spectro-temporal features. Moreover, although
spectro-temporal features have proved to be highly reliable in speaker
verification models, they only represent some aspects of short-term acoustic
level traits of the speaker's voice. However, the human voice consists of
several linguistic levels such as acoustic, lexicon, prosody, and phonetics,
that can be utilized in speaker verification models. To compensate for these
inherited shortcomings in spectro-temporal features, we propose to enhance the
proposed Siamese convolutional neural network architecture by deploying a
multilayer perceptron network to incorporate the prosodic, jitter, and shimmer
features. The proposed end-to-end verification architecture performs feature
extraction and verification simultaneously. This proposed architecture displays
significant improvement over classical signal processing approaches and deep
algorithms for forensic cross-device speaker verification.Comment: Accepted in 9th IEEE International Conference on Biometrics: Theory,

Learning feed-forward one-shot learners
One-shot learning is usually tackled by using generative models or
discriminative embeddings. Discriminative methods based on deep learning, which
are very effective in other learning scenarios, are ill-suited for one-shot
learning as they need large amounts of training data. In this paper, we propose
a method to learn the parameters of a deep model in one shot. We construct the
learner as a second deep network, called a learnet, which predicts the
parameters of a pupil network from a single exemplar. In this manner we obtain
an efficient feed-forward one-shot learner, trained end-to-end by minimizing a
one-shot classification objective in a learning to learn formulation. In order
to make the construction feasible, we propose a number of factorizations of the
parameters of the pupil network. We demonstrate encouraging results by learning
characters from single exemplars in Omniglot, and by tracking visual objects
from a single initial exemplar in the Visual Object Tracking benchmark.Comment: The first three authors contributed equally, and are listed in

Beyond Classification: Latent User Interests Profiling from Visual Contents Analysis
User preference profiling is an important task in modern online social
networks (OSN). With the proliferation of image-centric social platforms, such
as Pinterest, visual contents have become one of the most informative data
streams for understanding user preferences. Traditional approaches usually
treat visual content analysis as a general classification problem where one or
more labels are assigned to each image. Although such an approach simplifies
the process of image analysis, it misses the rich context and visual cues that
play an important role in people's perception of images. In this paper, we
explore the possibilities of learning a user's latent visual preferences
directly from image contents. We propose a distance metric learning method
based on Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) to directly extract
similarity information from visual contents and use the derived distance metric
to mine individual users' fine-grained visual preferences. Through our
preliminary experiments using data from 5,790 Pinterest users, we show that
even for the images within the same category, each user possesses distinct and
individually-identifiable visual preferences that are consistent over their
lifetime. Our results underscore the untapped potential of finer-grained visual
preference profiling in understanding users' preferences.Comment: 2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Data Mining Workshop
