Implementation of ASK, PSK and FSK on FPGA
ABSTRACT This paper present the review on an implementation of ASK, PSK and FSK modulators and demodulators on FPGA using Quartus II software. The ASK,PSK and FSK modulators and demodulators system is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK environment ,DSP Builder and Quartus II. The DSP builder Signal Compiler block reads Simulink Model Files (.mdl) and writes out VHDL files and Tcl scripts for hardware implementation and simulation. Quartus II, a tool from altera used to implement the design on two Cyclone II Starter kit board. The first board behaves as a modulator and second as a demodulator. The modulated signal was achieved in the first Cyclone II board, passed through a channel and transmitted to the second board, which behaves as a demodulator. At the end of the demodulator, the modulating signal was obtained
erro de bit (BER) de 3×10-3.This dissertation aims to describe all the study conducted to the
implementation of an underwater acoustic modem of high data rate and low
consumption. The underwater environment is highly unstable for the
communication systems due to numerous factors affecting the acoustic wave’s
propagation such as: high attenuation for long distances, low velocity of sound,
existence of big diversity of noise, multipath phenomenon and the Doppler
Effect. These characteristics imply an extreme difficulty to establish any kind
of underwater communication.
Therefore, initially, it was necessary to make an exhaustive survey of all
researches in this area, in order to understand how these features can affect
communication in underwater environment, and posteriorly, elaborate a study
about digital modulations technics used in this kind of systems.
Then, a research about all the existent acoustic modems was
accomplished, taking attention to theirs features and purposes. After an intense
research about this matter, it was developed an underwater acoustic modem
appealing to several Hardware and Software components, so that it can achieve
all the purpose objectives.
The first modem created was made using the MatLab/Simulink tool,
with specific Xilinx blocks to simulate and allow a theoretical analysis about
its behavior.
In order to verify the underwater acoustic modem operation, tests were
performed in a pool with 11 m length, 3 m wide front, 6 m wide back and 1,5
to 1,8 m depth. With transducers emitter and receiver, placed in a distance 6 m
far from one another, it was possible to verify a Data Rate of 1 Mbps, only
using 1.4 W of power consumption, reaching a Bit Error Rate (BER) of 3×10-3
