    PEER-TO-PEER 3D/MULTI-VIEW VIDEO STREAMING

    Abstract The recent advances in stereoscopic video capture, compression and display have made 3D video a visually appealing and costly affordable technology. More sophisticated multi-view videos have also been demonstrated. Yet their remarkably increased data volume poses greater challenges to the conventional client/server systems. The stringent synchronization demands from different views further complicate the system design. In this thesis, we present an initial attempt toward efficient streaming of 3D videos over peer-to-peer networks. We show that the inherent multi-stream nature of 3D video makes playback synchronization more difficult. We address this by a 2-stream buffer, together with a novel segment scheduling. We further extend our system to support multi-view video with view diversity and dynamics. We have evaluated our system under different end-system and network configurations with typical stereo video streams. The simulation results demonstrate the superiority of our system in terms of scalability, streaming quality and dealing with view dynamics

We would like to create a P2P content sharing simulation environment, where nodes communicate with deterministic network coding to observe the different properties of deterministic source coding. Our simulator is based on the Peersim generic P2P simulation framework. We examine the diversity of block combinations, as this property is the key for increasing the P2P network reliability

    Framework for collaborative knowledge management in organizations

    Nowadays organizations have been pushed to speed up the rate of industrial transformation to high value products and services. The capability to agilely respond to new market demands became a strategic pillar for innovation, and knowledge management could support organizations to achieve that goal. However, current knowledge management approaches tend to be over complex or too academic, with interfaces difficult to manage, even more if cooperative handling is required. Nevertheless, in an ideal framework, both tacit and explicit knowledge management should be addressed to achieve knowledge handling with precise and semantically meaningful definitions. Moreover, with the increase of Internet usage, the amount of available information explodes. It leads to the observed progress in the creation of mechanisms to retrieve useful knowledge from the huge existent amount of information sources. However, a same knowledge representation of a thing could mean differently to different people and applications. Contributing towards this direction, this thesis proposes a framework capable of gathering the knowledge held by domain experts and domain sources through a knowledge management system and transform it into explicit ontologies. This enables to build tools with advanced reasoning capacities with the aim to support enterprises decision-making processes. The author also intends to address the problem of knowledge transference within an among organizations.     Rules for Growth: Promoting Innovation and Growth Through Legal Reform

    The United States economy is struggling to recover from its worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. After several huge doses of conventional macroeconomic stimulus - deficit-spending and monetary stimulus - policymakers are understandably eager to find innovative no-cost ways of sustaining growth both in the short and long runs. In response to this challenge, the Kauffman Foundation convened a number of America’s leading legal scholars and social scientists during the summer of 2010 to present and discuss their ideas for changing legal rules and policies to promote innovation and accelerate U.S. economic growth. This meeting led to the publication of Rules for Growth: Promoting Innovation and Growth Through Legal Reform, a comprehensive and groundbreaking volume of essays prescribing a new set of growth-promoting policies for policymakers, legal scholars, economists, and business men and women. Some of the top Rules include: ‱ Reforming U.S. immigration laws so that more high-skilled immigrants can launch businesses in the United States. ‱ Improving university technology licensing practices so university-generated innovation is more quickly and efficiently commercialized. ‱ Moving away from taxes on income that penalize risk-taking, innovation, and employment while shifting toward a more consumption-based tax system that encourages saving that funds investment.     Anthropology has neglected the study of music. Music and Digital Media shows how and why this should be redressed. It does so by enabling music to expand the horizons of digital anthropology, demonstrating how the field can build interdisciplinary links to music and sound studies, digital/media studies, and science and technology studies. Music and Digital Media is the first comparative ethnographic study of the impact of digital media on music worldwide. It offers a radical and lucid new theoretical framework for understanding digital media through music, showing that music is today where the promises and problems of the digital assume clamouring audibility.     Task Allocation in Foraging Robot Swarms:The Role of Information Sharing

    Autonomous task allocation is a desirable feature of robot swarms that collect and deliver items in scenarios where congestion, caused by accumulated items or robots, can temporarily interfere with swarm behaviour. In such settings, self-regulation of workforce can prevent unnecessary energy consumption. We explore two types of self-regulation: non-social, where robots become idle upon experiencing congestion, and social, where robots broadcast information about congestion to their team mates in order to socially inhibit foraging. We show that while both types of self-regulation can lead to improved energy efficiency and increase the amount of resource collected, the speed with which information about congestion flows through a swarm affects the scalability of these algorithms
