A 7 meter diameter, parabolic dish solar collector was designed and developed for first application at Shenandoah, Georgia. Key features and requirements for the collector are outlined. Performance test results for collector testing at Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque are summarized. The key features, requirements and performance of the solar collector subassemblies/subsystems are discussed: mount and drives, reflector, receiver, and collector control unit. O’whahsa’ - Protection, Comfort and Healing

Leah Shenandoah is an Oneida Nation multimedia artist, musician and scholar who conveys the concepts of protection, comfort and healing through music, sculpture, jewelry and fashion. On May 6, 2011, O\u27whahsa\u27 which translates to hood in the Onya\u27ta:aka Oneida language, was presented at the Hungerford Building in Rochester, NY. Over 250 attendees witnessed a transcendental space consisting of: five sculptures made of fabric stretched over a welded steel rod armature-painted in a vibrant and impressionistic fashion; five sets of clothing and jewelry worn by Shenandoah and four dancers; smoke, fog, multi-colored lights and a 45-minute set of original songs written and performed by Leah; and a studio loft painted to emulate outer space. Inspired by the Haudenosaunee creation story of Skywoman, Shenandoah utilizes modern and ancient concepts of extraterrestrial origins in her creations. Shenandoah\u27s intense desire to create healing stems from her personal experience as a domestic violence survivor. Searching to regain a sense of self and healing though art and music, she utilizes the creative flow state to transmute pain and suffering into joy and healing

The Issue of Mirrors

This collection is, more than anything, a series of self-portraits. It attempts to depict how various speakers move through suffering, madness, addiction, lust, heartbreak, and settings ranging from rural Ohio to Brooklyn. The diction and syntax suggest both pathos and comedy, often within a single line. The ordinary experience becomes an opportunity for exploration and discovery, and sites of tragedy are not sites of victimhood, but spaces for productive play

Development and testing of the Shenandoah collector

The test and development of the 7-meter Shenandoah parabolic dish collector incorporating an FEK-244 film reflective surface and cavity receiver are described. Four prototypes tested in the midtemperature Solar System Test Facility indicate, with changes incorporated from these development tests, that the improvements should lead to predicted performance levels in the production collectors
