implemented LearnWeb2.0 - a prototype, which
provides appropriate functionalities for the
aggregation and annotation of Web 2.0
resources for lifelong competence development
activities. This paper focuses on the next steps
planned, describing the main functionalities to
be implemented in LearnWeb2.0: resource
selection, batch annotation and sharing,
notification using SpreadCrumbs, resource
aggregation using GroupMe and sequencing,
motivated by a knowledge sharing scenario at

Proceedings of the 3rd Workshop on Social Information Retrieval for Technology-Enhanced Learning
Learning and teaching resource are available on the Web - both in terms of digital learning content and people resources (e.g. other learners, experts, tutors). They can be used to facilitate teaching and learning tasks. The remaining challenge is to develop, deploy and evaluate Social information retrieval (SIR) methods, techniques and systems that provide learners and teachers with guidance in potentially overwhelming variety of choices. The aim of the SIRTEL’09 workshop is to look onward beyond recent achievements to discuss specific topics, emerging research issues, new trends and endeavors in SIR for TEL. The workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners to present, and more importantly, to discuss the current status of research in SIR and TEL and its implications for science and teaching
YELL/TELL: online community platform for teacher professional development
The community platform Young/Teen English Language Learners (YELL/TELL) was developed to respond to the needs of collaboration and sharing among trainee teachers, school teachers, teacher trainers and researchers in the field of language learning for English FL/SL. The current study focuses on ethnographic observation and data gathered during a workshop for professional development organized for experienced teachers. We compare the evidence of the teachers\u2019 actions, with the analysis of their perception about the professional use of the online environment and their critical reflection about the experience

TENCompetence.This document includes the evaluation results of the Cycle 3 real-life evaluation activities. A cross-analysis of the results is compiled in order to present the impact indicators of the project in terms of outreach, learning benefits, organizational implications, and business opportunities identified in these experiences. The implementations and eight business/market-relevant demonstrators conducted in collaboration with external "adopter organizations" from different countries in Europe. These external organizations are Associated Partners or different units within the partners'organization. The revised pilots and the demonstrators test the tooling achieved along DIP-3. Both pilots and business demonstrators show to provide benefits to socially- and industrially-relevant scenarios. Media Usage in Post-Secondary Education and Implications for Teaching and Learning
The Web 2.0 has permeated academic life. The use of online information
services in post-secondary education has led to dramatic changes in faculty
teaching methods as well as in the learning and study behavior of students. At
the same time, traditional information media, such as textbooks and printed
handouts, still form the basic pillars of teaching and learning. This paper
reports the results of a survey about media usage in teaching and learning
conducted with Western University students and instructors, highlighting trends
in the usage of new and traditional media in higher education by instructors
and students. In addition, the survey comprises part of an international
research program in which 20 universities from 10 countries are currently
participating. Further, the study will hopefully become a part of the ongoing
discussion of practices and policies that purport to advance the effective use
of media in teaching and learning

Towards analytics and collaborative exploration of social and linked media for technology-enchanced learning scenarios
Social Web applications such as "Flickr", "Youtube" and "Slideshare" offer a vast body of multimedial knowledge, discoverable through the appropriate search interfaces and API's. This extensive information source, however, is largely unstructured and the available metadata is typically limited to title, tags and description for a resource. On the other hand, Linked Web Data is both structured and well described through a variety of metadata. Combining those sources opens promising direction for knowledge discovery and, at the same time, new challenges for collaborative searching in various Technology-Enchanced Learning Scenarios. In this paper, we explore how to support (collaborative) search in such scenarios through an initial analysis of the Web data landscape and introduce early results from efforts on exploiting Linked Data techniques to solve critical issues in this context
Rethinking learning and employment at a time of economic uncertainty:Proceedings of the 6th TENCompetence Open Workshop, Manchester, UK, 19th and 20th November 2009
These proceedings consist of the peer reviewed papers presented at the Sixth TENCompetence Open Workshop. This was the final event of TENCompetence, which was an Integrated Project funded by the EU 6th Framework Programme with the goal of developing a European, open-source infrastructure to support the lifelong development of competences. The workshop took place at the Edwardian Hotel, Manchester, UK, on the 19th and 20th November 2009. The theme chosen was “Rethinking Learning and Employment at a Time of Economic Uncertainty”, reflecting the environment in which results of the project were to be deployed. The eight papers are grouped into three thematic sections: (1) strategic issues related to the provision competence development activities; (2) aspects of the technical infrastructure required to provide flexible support for competence development; (3) the results of pilots which make use of TENCompetence tools to provide competence development opportunities in four contrasting contexts of lifelong learning, outside the traditional context of formal education
