Management plan documentation standard and Data Item Descriptions (DID). Volume of the information system life-cycle and documentation standards, volume 2
This is the second of five volumes of the Information System Life-Cycle and Documentation Standards. This volume provides a well-organized, easily used standard for management plans used in acquiring, assuring, and developing information systems and software, hardware, and operational procedures components, and related processes
Ontology acquisition and exchange of evolutionary product-brokering agents
Agent-based electronic commerce (e-commerce) has been booming with the development of the Internet and agent technologies. However, little effort has been devoted to exploring the learning and evolving capabilities of software agents. This paper addresses issues of evolving software agents in e-commerce applications. An agent structure with evolution features is proposed with a focus on internal hierarchical knowledge. We argue that knowledge base of agents should be the cornerstone for their evolution capabilities, and agents can enhance their knowledge bases by exchanging knowledge with other agents. In this paper, product ontology is chosen as an instance of knowledge base. We propose a new approach to facilitate ontology exchange among e-commerce agents. The ontology exchange model and its formalities are elaborated. Product-brokering agents have been designed and implemented, which accomplish the ontology exchange process from request to integration
Quantum Robot: Structure, Algorithms and Applications
A kind of brand-new robot, quantum robot, is proposed through fusing quantum
theory with robot technology. Quantum robot is essentially a complex quantum
system and it is generally composed of three fundamental parts: MQCU (multi
quantum computing units), quantum controller/actuator, and information
acquisition units. Corresponding to the system structure, several learning
control algorithms including quantum searching algorithm and quantum
reinforcement learning are presented for quantum robot. The theoretic results
show that quantum robot can reduce the complexity of O(N^2) in traditional
robot to O(N^(3/2)) using quantum searching algorithm, and the simulation
results demonstrate that quantum robot is also superior to traditional robot in
efficient learning by novel quantum reinforcement learning algorithm.
Considering the advantages of quantum robot, its some potential important
applications are also analyzed and prospected.Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures, 2 table
Landslide risk management through spatial analysis and stochastic prediction for territorial resilience evaluation
Natural materials, such as soils, are influenced by many factors acting during their formative and evolutionary process: atmospheric agents, erosion and transport phenomena, sedimentation conditions that give soil properties a non-reducible randomness by using sophisticated survey techniques and technologies. This character is reflected not only in spatial variability of properties which differs from point to point, but also in multivariate correlation as a function of reciprocal distance. Cognitive enrichment, offered by the response of soils associated with their intrinsic spatial variability, implies an increase in the evaluative capacity of the contributing causes and potential effects in failure phenomena. Stability analysis of natural slopes is well suited to stochastic treatment of uncertainty which characterized landslide risk. In particular, this study has been applied through a back- analysis procedure to a slope located in Southern Italy that was subject to repeated phenomena of hydrogeological instability (extended for several kilometres in recent years). The back-analysis has been carried out by applying spatial analysis to the controlling factors as well as quantifying the hydrogeological hazard through unbiased estimators. A natural phenomenon, defined as stochastic process characterized by mutually interacting spatial variables, has led to identify the most critical areas, giving reliability to the scenarios and improving the forecasting content. Moreover, the phenomenological characterization allows the optimization of the risk levels to the wide territory involved, supporting decision-making process for intervention priorities as well as the effective allocation of the available resources in social, environmental and economic contexts
ArchOptions: A Real Options-Based Model for Predicting the Stability of Software Architectures
Architectural stability refers to the extent an architecture is flexible to endure evolutionary changes in stakeholders\' requirements and the environment. We assume that the primary goal of software architecture is to guide the system\'s evolution. We contribute to a novel model that exploits options theory to predict architectural stability. The model is predictive: it provides \"insights\" on the evolution of the software system based on valuing the extent an architecture can endure a set of likely evolutionary changes. The model builds on Black and Scholes financial options theory (Noble Prize wining) to value such extent. We show how we have derived the model: the analogy and assumptions made to reach the model, its formulation, and possible interpretations. We refer to this model as ArchOptions
Information Based Hierarchical Brain Organization/Evolution from the Perspective of the Informational Model of Consciousness
Introduction: This article discusses the brain hierarchical organization/evolution as a consequence of the information-induced brain
development, from the perspective of the Informational Model of Consciousness.
Analysis: In the frame of the Informational Model of Consciousness, a detailed info-neural analysis ispresented, concerning the specific
properties/functions of the informational system of the human body composed by the Center of Acquisition and Storing of Information, Center of
Decision and Command, Info-Emotional Center, Maintenance Informational System, Genetic Transmission System, Info Genetic Generator and Info-
Connection center, in relation with the neuro-connected brain areas, with a special attention to the Info-Connection and its specific properties.
Besides a meticulous analysis of the info-connections/neuro-functions of these centers, a special attention was paid to limbic/cingulate cortex
activities. Defined as a trust/confidence center, additional features are highlighted in correlation with the activity of the anterior cingulate cortex,
consisting in the intervention/moderation of amygdala emotional signals, conflicting opposite YES/NO data and error elimination in the favor of the
organism adaptation/survival, the intervention in the certainty/uncertainty balance to select a suitable pro-life information (antientropic effect), in
moderation of pain and in the stimulation of the empathic inter-human relations/communication. Representing the correspondence between the
informational subsystems and the brain area map, itis shown that the up/down integration of information by epigenetic mechanisms and the down/
up evolution are correlated.
Results: The analysis of the functions of the anterior cingulate opens new gates of investigations concerning the involved intimate mechanisms
at the level of cell microstructure, specifically on the compatibility with quantum assisted processes admitted by the Informational Model of
Consciousness and the quantum-based models The discussion on the information integration/codification by epigenetic mechanisms shows that
this process starts from the superior levels of brain conscious info-processing areas and progressively advances to the automatic/autonomic inferior
levels ofthe informational system, under insistent/repetitive cues/stress conditions, pointing out an hierarchical functional/anatomical structure of
the brain organization. Additional arguments are discussed, indicating thatthe down/up progressive scale representation is a suggestive illustration
of the brain evolution, induced/assisted/determined by information, accelerated at humans by the antientropic functions of the Info-Connection
center.
Conclusions: The hierarchical organization of the brain is a consequence of the integration process of information, defining its development
accordingly to the adaptation requirements for survival during successive evolution stages of the organism, information playing a determinant/key
role
