    MAPPING OF THE RESEARCH OUTPUT ON ‘WIRELESS COMMUNICATION (2010 - 2018)’: A WEB OF SCIENCE BASED SCIENTOMETRIC EVALUATION

    The present study aimed at examining the quantitative and qualitative aspects of literature output on Wireless Communication as available and indexed in Web of Science database covering a nine year period i.e from 2010 to 2018. A total of 8482 records were downloaded from Web of Science core collection database. The downloaded records, in txt format, were exported to Bibexcel software for analyzing the data for certain quantitative and qualitative indicators. MS Excel programme was used to do all the necessary calculations and preparation of cross tables with Pivot Table options. The findings were presented under the major heads as basic metrics, author metrics, quality metrics, institution and publisher metrics, future metrics and geo metrics. The findings reveal that there is a gradual growth of publications on WLC during the study period. An exponential growth pattern was found. The Relative Growth Rate shows a decreasing trend and the Doubling time shows an increasing trend. Rather than single authored publications, multi-authored publications are more in numbers. The authors preferred to work in very small / small teams. The Degree of collaboration kept on growing throughout the study period. The researchers in WLC preferred to publish their research findings in the form of Journal articles. English is the preferred language of publications among the WLC researchers. China and USA lead the world in WLC research followed by India in the third place. Intra-county collaboration was found to be more in numbers than inter-country collaboration in WLC research output. The journals publishing research papers in WLC research do not fall in Bradford’s law of scattering. The time series analysis shows that the growth of WLC research output will be in better prospects in the years to come

    Activity Index (AI) and extent of collaboration: a case study of rainwater harvesting literature with a scientometric overview

    Rainwater harvesting research is being conducted in much wider perspectives from agriculture to using in house toilets. The study has assessed the research activity by different countries with the help of Activity Index (AI) and the collaboration and its impact. The SCOPUS publication records are made use of for the analysis of RWH research activities. The quality of the publications is analysed in terms of citations received to the papers and Spain has come on the top having 42 citations per paper. Cross-field relative activity in rainwater harvesting research is measured and it was interesting to note that among the leading countries conducting RWH research, a few developed countries are below world average of RWH activity. Out of the 141 countries which have at least one publication on RWH, 132 (94%) have at least one paper written in collaboration with other countries. US is the collaboration hub of many countries and the strength of collaboration of India, China, UK, Brazil is noteworthy. It was also found that there is a positive correlation between the collaboration strength and impact of papers. The results are relevant to know the relative of strength of different countries in RWH as well as boosting the collaboration among countries and researcher mobility

    Research Impact of the Iranian Publications on Social Networks in Scopus Indexed

    Due to the major role of research in the sustainable development of countries all around the world, mapping the scientific production must be designed according to indexed in databases. The purpose of the present study is to analyze Iranian literature on the field of social networks in comparison with the same studies to cross the Middle East and the world level. This is research is a descriptive study. A total of 123,609 documents indexed pertained to this topic were processed from 1970 to the end of 2017 indexed in the Scopus database. Excel software was used to analyze the data. Different study types, characterized by years, city/country of origin, journals and more productive authors, the ratio cooperation between them by country and institutions, cites and H index. Data was collected and analyzed in Microsoft Excel software. The finding showed that United States was the highest producer (% 29.74), followed by China (%11.85) and Iran ranked 31th among the countries of the world and also 3rd among the Middle East countries (H index=23). Although the ratio of scientific production in bibliographical databases, particularly regional, is still relatively impressive then it is necessary to promote more research on it

    Author-Topic Modeling of DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology (2008-2017), India

    This study presents a method to analyze textual data and applying it to the field of Library and Information Science. This paper subsumes a special case of Latent Dirichlet Allocation and Author-Topic models where each article has one unique author and each author has one unique topic. Topic Modeling Toolkit is used to perform the author-topic modeling. The study further which considers topics and their changes over time by taking into account both the word co-occurrence pattern and time. 393 full-text articles were downloaded from DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology and were analyzed accordingly. 16 core topics have been identified throughout the period of ten years. These core topics can be considered as the core area of research in the journal from 2008 to 2017. This paper further identifies top five authors associated with the representative articles for each studied year. These authors can be treated as the subject-experts for the modeled topics as indicated. The results of the study can serve as a platform to determine the research trend; core areas of research; and the subject-experts related to those core areas in the field the Library and Information Science in India

    A global exploratory comparison of country self-citations 1996-2019

    Self-citations are a key topic in evaluative bibliometrics because they can artificially inflate citation-related performance indicators. Recently, self-citations defined at the largest scale, i.e., country self-citations, have started to attract the attention of researchers and policymakers. According to a recent research, in fact, the anomalous trends in the country self-citation rates of some countries, such as Italy, have been induced by the distorting effect of citation metrics-centered science policies. In the present study, we investigate the trends of country self-citations in 50 countries over the world in the period 1996-2019 using Scopus data. Results show that for most countries country self-citations have decreased over time. 12 countries (Colombia, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Malaysia, Pakistan, Romania, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Ukraine), however, exhibit different behavior, with anomalous trends of self-citations. We argue that these anomalies should be attributed to the aggressive science policies adopted by these countries in recent years, which are all characterized by direct or indirect incentives for citations. Our analysis confirms that when bibliometric indicators are integrated into systems of incentives, they are capable of affecting rapidly and visibly the citation behavior of entire countries.Comment: 42 pages, 7 figure

    Iranian Authors\u27 Contributions to the Library Philosophy and Practice

    Objective: This study aimed to conduct a bibliometric analysis and scientific visualization of the contribution made by Iranians\u27 authors in the Library Philosophy and Practice (LPP) from 2006 to 2019. Material and Methods: This bibliometric analysis used Scopus database for retrieving data on all papers published by Iranians in LPP during the study time span. VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel software packages were used for data analysis. Findings: Out of 139 papers authored by Iranians in LPP, the first published paper belonged to 2006. An increasing trend can be seen in annual publication number, with 1 and 64 papers in 2007 and 2019, respectively. The first ranked active author was Khasseh A.A. with 9 papers. Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and Payame Noor University were in the top of the contributing institutes, each with authoring 20 papers followed by Islamic Azad University, Central with 13 papers. Iranian more collaborated with Indians. The mean rate of received citations per paper was 0.62. The top three highly-cited authors were Isfandyiari-Moghaddam, A. (with 13), Khasseh A.A. and Saberi M.K. (each with 11) and Biranvand (with 10), respectively. Citing some known journals in their papers, Iranian researchers considered main topics in LIS field, including bibliometrics, altmetrics and library management and technologies. Conclusion: This study is a relatively comprehensive bibliometric analysis of Iranians\u27 contributions to LPP. The result can be helpful as a road map for researchers and readers countrywide as well as the editorial team of the journal

    Research output on Corona virus (Covid-19) /Hantavirus in India:A Scientometric Study

    This paper attempts to highlight the publication status and growth of Hantavirus/Coronavirus research in India and make quantitative and qualitative assessment by way of analysing various features of research output based on Scopus online database during the period 1975-2020. A total of 3498 publications were published and overall H-Index is 50. The publications peaked in the year 2020 with 3218 publications and most frequently cited one is “Rodriguez-Morales, A.J., Cardona-Ospina, J.A., GutiĂ©rrez-Ocampo, E., Ahmad, T., Sah, R.. (2020) Clinical, laboratory and imaging features of COVID-19: A systematic review and meta-analysis, Travel Medicine and Infectious Disease 34,101623 with 293 citations. The USA topped the list with highest share (374) of publications. United Kingdom with 212 share of publications followed by China with 154 share of publications, Thailand with 119 share of publications, Australia and Italy with 101 share of publications respectively in the context of international collaboration. All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi topped the list with 246 publications, followed by Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh with 178 publications, Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune with 108 publications. 160 Institutes are with minimum of 10 Publications 12 Institutes. The highly productive journals are: Diabetes And Metabolic Syndrome Clinical Research and Reviews(Elsevier) with 100 publications (CiteScore-2.6, SJR-0.672 and SNIP-0.982), Asian Journal Of Psychiatry(Elsevier) with 92(CiteScore-2.7, SJR-0.736 and SNIP-1.022); Indian Journal Of Ophthalmology(Wolters Kluwer Health)(CieScore-1.6, SJR-0.482 and SNIP-0.931) and Journal Of Biomolecular Structure And Dynamics with 80 publications respectively. The parameters studied include: year-wise growth of publications and citations, country-wise Collaboration of publications, domain-wise distribution of publications and highly productive institutes, highly cited publications and highly preferred journals for publications by scientists

    Fifty Years (1970-2019) Journey of \u27Journal of Documentation\u27: A Scientometric Analysis of Research Productivity and Publication Trends

    Purpose In this study, we conducted quantitative analysis of 1706 scholarly literature published in Journal of Documentation during the period of 1970 to 2019 (fifty years) using a series of scientometric indicators. Annual scientific production, most local cited sources, the ranking of authors; profiles, contributions, correlation, collaboration and authorship pattern, most contributed countries, most cited articles, frequently used search terms/keywords, and the legend of historiographic mapping were analysed in detail to measure the impact of the source. Design/methodology/approach We used the Scopus database for retrieving the desired sample data. In total, 1,706 numbers of publications records were considered for the literature analysis considering their relevancy. Biblioshiny data visualization tool is used to create the various maps. Findings The present study found that annual scientific production and average citations constantly have had an uptrend. The journal\u27s had tremendous impact with an h-index of 80, with a g-index of 148, total citations of 37,161 within the studied period. Although Bawden D contributed the highest number of research papers (n=78), the work published by Hjþrland B received the highest citations. Lotka\u27s Law reveals that about 75.04% of the authors (1319 authors) have one publication, and approximately 12.73% of the authors (225 authors) have two publications. The United Kingdom was the dominant country in terms of number of papers and citation count whereas University of Sheffield topped with 128 publications. The thematic map consists of eleven clusters and ‘information retrieval’ found to be the largest cluster comprehending 56 subthemes occurring 995 times. Co-citation network identified four clusters with revealing Wilson TD as the most cited authors. The study also indicates the most collaborative authors are from the United Kingdom. Research limitations/implications The study exclusively deals with 1732 published research literature indexed in the Scopus database covering a span of fifty years (from 1970 to 2019). Thus, documents which are not covered in Scopus are excluded from the purview of research. This study is significant in order to measure the impact of Journal of Documentation and useful to identify valuable research patterns from publications and of developments in the field of Information Science

    Analysis of the 100 most-cited papers in one of the leading Library and Information Science journals “Scientometrics”

    Scientometrics is one of the leading peer-reviewed journals in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS). The present study is aimed to evaluate the salient characteristics of the 100 most-cited papers of Scientometrics. The bibliographic data of most cited papers were extracted from the Scopus database. The attributes of selected papers were analyzed by using Microsoft Excel, VOSviewer, and Biblioshiny software. These papers were published between 1979 and 2017. All papers gained citations with a mean ratio of 332.86 citations per paper and the range of citations varies from 155 to 3,222. These papers were contributed by 221authors, with an average of 2.21 authors per paper. Thirty-two papers were contributed by a single author pattern and these papers gained a higher proportion of citations as compared to multi-author papers. Likewise, the open accessed papers gained more citations as compared to subscription-based papers. GlÀnzel W. emerged as the most prolific author while the United States contributed the highest number of papers. This paper also highlighted the frequently used keywords and the analysis of cited references. Scientometrics is an important journal that has been providing a platform to LIS researchers, focusing on research evaluation, altmetrics, bibliometrics, and citation analysis, etc. The findings of the current study assist to recognize the publication trends and research markers in the area of scientometrics
