Robust and Real-time Deep Tracking Via Multi-Scale Domain Adaptation
Visual tracking is a fundamental problem in computer vision. Recently, some
deep-learning-based tracking algorithms have been achieving record-breaking
performances. However, due to the high complexity of deep learning, most deep
trackers suffer from low tracking speed, and thus are impractical in many
real-world applications. Some new deep trackers with smaller network structure
achieve high efficiency while at the cost of significant decrease on precision.
In this paper, we propose to transfer the feature for image classification to
the visual tracking domain via convolutional channel reductions. The channel
reduction could be simply viewed as an additional convolutional layer with the
specific task. It not only extracts useful information for object tracking but
also significantly increases the tracking speed. To better accommodate the
useful feature of the target in different scales, the adaptation filters are
designed with different sizes. The yielded visual tracker is real-time and also
illustrates the state-of-the-art accuracies in the experiment involving two
well-adopted benchmarks with more than 100 test videos.Comment: 6 page
Learning Background-Aware Correlation Filters for Visual Tracking
Correlation Filters (CFs) have recently demonstrated excellent performance in
terms of rapidly tracking objects under challenging photometric and geometric
variations. The strength of the approach comes from its ability to efficiently
learn - "on the fly" - how the object is changing over time. A fundamental
drawback to CFs, however, is that the background of the object is not be
modelled over time which can result in suboptimal results. In this paper we
propose a Background-Aware CF that can model how both the foreground and
background of the object varies over time. Our approach, like conventional CFs,
is extremely computationally efficient - and extensive experiments over
multiple tracking benchmarks demonstrate the superior accuracy and real-time
performance of our method compared to the state-of-the-art trackers including
those based on a deep learning paradigm
Meta-Tracker: Fast and Robust Online Adaptation for Visual Object Trackers
This paper improves state-of-the-art visual object trackers that use online
adaptation. Our core contribution is an offline meta-learning-based method to
adjust the initial deep networks used in online adaptation-based tracking. The
meta learning is driven by the goal of deep networks that can quickly be
adapted to robustly model a particular target in future frames. Ideally the
resulting models focus on features that are useful for future frames, and avoid
overfitting to background clutter, small parts of the target, or noise. By
enforcing a small number of update iterations during meta-learning, the
resulting networks train significantly faster. We demonstrate this approach on
top of the high performance tracking approaches: tracking-by-detection based
MDNet and the correlation based CREST. Experimental results on standard
benchmarks, OTB2015 and VOT2016, show that our meta-learned versions of both

End-to-end representation learning for Correlation Filter based tracking
The Correlation Filter is an algorithm that trains a linear template to
discriminate between images and their translations. It is well suited to object
tracking because its formulation in the Fourier domain provides a fast
solution, enabling the detector to be re-trained once per frame. Previous works
that use the Correlation Filter, however, have adopted features that were
either manually designed or trained for a different task. This work is the
first to overcome this limitation by interpreting the Correlation Filter
learner, which has a closed-form solution, as a differentiable layer in a deep
neural network. This enables learning deep features that are tightly coupled to
the Correlation Filter. Experiments illustrate that our method has the
important practical benefit of allowing lightweight architectures to achieve

Online Domain Adaptation for Multi-Object Tracking
Automatically detecting, labeling, and tracking objects in videos depends
first and foremost on accurate category-level object detectors. These might,
however, not always be available in practice, as acquiring high-quality large
scale labeled training datasets is either too costly or impractical for all
possible real-world application scenarios. A scalable solution consists in
re-using object detectors pre-trained on generic datasets. This work is the
first to investigate the problem of on-line domain adaptation of object
detectors for causal multi-object tracking (MOT). We propose to alleviate the
dataset bias by adapting detectors from category to instances, and back: (i) we
jointly learn all target models by adapting them from the pre-trained one, and
(ii) we also adapt the pre-trained model on-line. We introduce an on-line
multi-task learning algorithm to efficiently share parameters and reduce drift,
while gradually improving recall. Our approach is applicable to any linear
object detector, and we evaluate both cheap "mini-Fisher Vectors" and expensive
"off-the-shelf" ConvNet features. We quantitatively measure the benefit of our
domain adaptation strategy on the KITTI tracking benchmark and on a new dataset
(PASCAL-to-KITTI) we introduce to study the domain mismatch problem in MOT.Comment: To appear at BMVC 201
A Differential Approach for Gaze Estimation
Non-invasive gaze estimation methods usually regress gaze directions directly
from a single face or eye image. However, due to important variabilities in eye
shapes and inner eye structures amongst individuals, universal models obtain
limited accuracies and their output usually exhibit high variance as well as
biases which are subject dependent. Therefore, increasing accuracy is usually
done through calibration, allowing gaze predictions for a subject to be mapped
to his/her actual gaze. In this paper, we introduce a novel image differential
method for gaze estimation. We propose to directly train a differential
convolutional neural network to predict the gaze differences between two eye
input images of the same subject. Then, given a set of subject specific
calibration images, we can use the inferred differences to predict the gaze
direction of a novel eye sample. The assumption is that by allowing the
comparison between two eye images, annoyance factors (alignment, eyelid
closing, illumination perturbations) which usually plague single image
prediction methods can be much reduced, allowing better prediction altogether.
Experiments on 3 public datasets validate our approach which constantly
outperforms state-of-the-art methods even when using only one calibration
sample or when the latter methods are followed by subject specific gaze

GANerated Hands for Real-time 3D Hand Tracking from Monocular RGB
We address the highly challenging problem of real-time 3D hand tracking based
on a monocular RGB-only sequence. Our tracking method combines a convolutional
neural network with a kinematic 3D hand model, such that it generalizes well to
unseen data, is robust to occlusions and varying camera viewpoints, and leads
to anatomically plausible as well as temporally smooth hand motions. For
training our CNN we propose a novel approach for the synthetic generation of
training data that is based on a geometrically consistent image-to-image
translation network. To be more specific, we use a neural network that
translates synthetic images to "real" images, such that the so-generated images
follow the same statistical distribution as real-world hand images. For
training this translation network we combine an adversarial loss and a
cycle-consistency loss with a geometric consistency loss in order to preserve
geometric properties (such as hand pose) during translation. We demonstrate
that our hand tracking system outperforms the current state-of-the-art on
