Variance-constrained multiobjective control and filtering for nonlinear stochastic systems: A survey
The multiobjective control and filtering problems for nonlinear stochastic systems with variance constraints are surveyed. First, the concepts of nonlinear stochastic systems are recalled along with the introduction of some recent advances. Then, the covariance control theory, which serves as a practical method for multi-objective control design as well as a foundation for linear system theory, is reviewed comprehensively. The multiple design requirements frequently applied in engineering practice for the use of evaluating system performances are introduced, including robustness, reliability, and dissipativity. Several design techniques suitable for the multi-objective variance-constrained control and filtering problems for nonlinear stochastic systems are discussed. In particular, as a special case for the multi-objective design problems, the mixed H 2 / H ∞ control and filtering problems are reviewed in great detail. Subsequently, some latest results on the variance-constrained multi-objective control and filtering problems for the nonlinear stochastic systems are summarized. Finally, conclusions are drawn, and several possible future research directions are pointed out

Robust H-infinity sliding mode control for nonlinear stochastic systems with multiple data packet losses
This is the post-print version of this Article. The official published version can be accessed from the link below - Copyright @ 2012 John Wiley & SonsIn this paper, an ∞ sliding mode control (SMC) problem is studied for a class of discrete-time nonlinear stochastic systems with multiple data packet losses. The phenomenon of data packet losses, which is assumed to occur in a random way, is taken into consideration in the process of data transmission through both the state-feedback loop and the measurement output. The probability for the data packet loss for each individual state variable is governed by a corresponding individual random variable satisfying a certain probabilistic distribution over the interval [0 1]. The discrete-time system considered is also subject to norm-bounded parameter uncertainties and external nonlinear disturbances, which enter the system state equation in both matched and unmatched ways. A novel stochastic discrete-time switching function is proposed to facilitate the sliding mode controller design. Sufficient conditions are derived by means of the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. It is shown that the system dynamics in the specified sliding surface is exponentially stable in the mean square with a prescribed ∞ noise attenuation level if an LMI with an equality constraint is feasible. A discrete-time SMC controller is designed capable of guaranteeing the discrete-time sliding mode reaching condition of the specified sliding surface with probability 1. Finally, a simulation example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. This work was supported in part by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the U.K. under Grant

This is an open access article distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. The fuzzy logic theory has been proven to be effective in dealing with various nonlinear systems and has a great success in industry applications. Among different kinds of models for fuzzy systems, the so-called Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model has been quite popular due to its convenient and simple dynamic structure as well as its capability of approximating any smooth nonlinear function to any specified accuracy within any compact set. In terms of such a model, the performance analysis and the design of controllers and filters play important roles in the research of fuzzy systems. In this paper, we aim to survey some recent advances on the T-S fuzzy control and filtering problems with various network-induced phenomena. The network-induced phenomena under consideration mainly include communication delays, packet dropouts, signal quantization, and randomly occurring uncertainties (ROUs). With such network-induced phenomena, the developments on T-S fuzzy control and filtering issues are reviewed in detail. In addition, some latest results on this topic are highlighted. In the end, conclusions are drawn and some possible future research directions are pointed out. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61134009, 61329301, 11301118 and 61174136, the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province of China under Grant BK20130017, the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities of China under Grant CUSF-DH-D-2013061, the Royal Society of the U.K., and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany

Robust sliding mode control for discrete stochastic systems with mixed time delays, randomly occurring uncertainties, and randomly occurring nonlinearities
This is the post-print version of the paper. The official published version can be accessed from the link below - Copyright @ 2012 IEEEThis paper investigates the robust sliding mode control (SMC) problem for a class of uncertain nonlinear stochastic systems with mixed time delays. Both the sectorlike nonlinearities and the norm-bounded uncertainties enter into the system in random ways, and such randomly occurring uncertainties and randomly occurring nonlinearities obey certain mutually uncorrelated Bernoulli distributed white noise sequences. The mixed time delays consist of both the discrete and the distributed delays. The time-varying delays are allowed in state. By employing the idea of delay fractioning and constructing a new Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, sufficient conditions are established to ensure the stability of the system dynamics in the specified sliding surface by solving a certain semidefinite programming problem. A full-state feedback SMC law is designed to guarantee the reaching condition. A simulation example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed SMC scheme. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61028008, 60825303 and 60834003, National 973 Project under Grant 2009CB320600, the Fok Ying Tung Education Fund under Grant 111064, the Special Fund for the Author of National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation of China under Grant 2007B4, the Key Laboratory of Integrated Automation for the Process Industry Northeastern University) from the Ministry of Education of China, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the U.K. under Grant GR/S27658/01, the Royal Society of the U.K., and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany

Robust sliding mode design for uncertain stochastic systems based on H∞ control method
The official published version can be found at the link below. In this paper, the design problem of sliding mode control (SMC) is addressed for uncertain stochastic systems modeled by Itô differential equations. There exist the parameter uncertainties in both the state and input matrices, as well as the unmatched external disturbance. The key feature of this work is the integration of SMC method with H∞ technique such that the robust stochastic stability with a prescribed disturbance attenuation level can be achieved. A sufficient condition for the existence of the desired sliding mode controller is obtained via linear matrix inequalities. The reachability of the specified sliding surface is proven. Finally, a numerical simulation example is presented to illustrate the proposed method. This work was funded by The Royal Society of the U.K.;NNSF of China. Active sensor fault tolerant output feedback tracking control for wind turbine systems via T-S model
This paper presents a new approach to active sensor fault tolerant tracking control (FTTC) for offshore wind turbine (OWT) described via Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) multiple models. The FTTC strategy is designed in such way that aims to maintain nominal wind turbine controller without any change in both fault and fault-free cases. This is achieved by inserting T–S proportional state estimators augmented with proportional and integral feedback (PPI) fault estimators to be capable to estimate different generators and rotor speed sensors fault for compensation purposes. Due to the dependency of the FTTC strategy on the fault estimation the designed observer has the capability to estimate a wide range of time varying fault signals. Moreover, the robustness of the observer against the difference between the anemometer wind speed measurement and the immeasurable effective wind speed signal has been taken into account. The corrected measurements fed to a T–S fuzzy dynamic output feedback controller (TSDOFC) designed to track the desired trajectory. The stability proof with H∞ performance and D-stability constraints is formulated as a Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) problem. The strategy is illustrated using a non-linear benchmark system model of a wind turbine offered within a competition led by the companies Mathworks and KK-Electronic
