    Optimisation and parallelism in synchronous digital circuit simulators

    Digital circuit simulation often requires a large amount of computation, resulting in long run times. We consider several techniques for optimising a brute force synchronous circuit simulator: an algorithm using an event queue that avoids recalculating quiescent parts of the circuit, a marking algorithm that is similar to the event queue but that avoids a central data structure, and a lazy algorithm that avoids calculating signals whose values are not needed. Two target architectures for the simulator are used: a sequential CPU, and a parallel GPGPU. The interactions between the different optimisations are discussed, and the performance is measured while the algorithms are simulating a simple but realistic scalable circuit

    A Distributed and Privacy-Aware Speed Advisory System for Optimising Conventional and Electric Vehicles Networks

    One of the key ideas to make Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) work effectively is to deploy advanced communication and cooperative control technologies among the vehicles and road infrastructures. In this spirit, we propose a consensus-based distributed speed advisory system that optimally determines a recommended common speed for a given area in order that the group emissions, or group battery consumptions, are minimised. Our algorithms achieve this in a privacy-aware manner; namely, individual vehicles do not reveal in-vehicle information to other vehicles or to infrastructure.     In this present year, engineers have been researching and inventing to get the optimum of less emission in every vehicle for a better environmental friendly. Diesel engines are known reusing of the exhaust gas in order to reduce the exhaust emissions such as NOx that contribute high factors in the pollution. In this paper, we have conducted a study that EGR instalment in the vehicle can be good as it helps to prevent highly amount of toxic gas formation, which NOx level can be lowered. But applying the EGR it can lead to more cooling and more space which will affect in terms of the costing. Throughout the research, fuelling in the engine affects the EGR producing less emission. Other than that, it contributes to the less of performance efficiency when vehicle load is less

    Integrated approach to energy harvester mixed technology modelling and performance optimisation

    An energy harvester is a system consisting of several components from different physical domains including mechanical, magnetic and electrical as well as the external circuits which regulate and store the generated energy. To design highly efficient energy harvesters, we believe that the various components of the energy harvesters need to be modelled together and in systematic manner using one simulation platform. We propose an accurate HDL model for the energy harvester and demonstrate its accuracy by validating it experimentally and comparing it with recently reported models. It is crucial to consider the various parts of the energy harvester in the context of a complete system, or else the gain at one part may come at the price of efficiency loss else where, rending the energy harvester much less efficient than before. The close mechanical-electrical interaction that takes place in energy harvesters, often lead to significant performance loss when the various parts of the energy harvesters are combined. Therefore, to address the performance loss, we propose an integrated approach to the energy harvester modelling and performance optimisation and demonstrate the effectiveness of employing such an approach by showing that it is possible to improve the performance of vibration-based energy harvester, in terms of the effective energy stored in the super-capacitor, by 33% through optimising the micro-generator mechanical parameters and the voltage booster circuit components

    Exploiting smallest error to calibrate non-linearity in SAR ADCs

    This paper presents a statistics-optimised organisation technique to achieve better element matching in Successive Approximation Register (SAR) Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) in smart sensor systems. We demonstrate the proposed technique ability to achieve a significant improvement of around 23 dB on Spurious Free Dynamic Range (SFDR) of the ADC than the conventional, testing with a capacitor mismatch σu = 0.2% in a 14 bit SAR ADC system. For the static performance, the max root mean square (rms) value of differential nonlinearity (DNL) reduces from 1.63 to 0.20 LSB and the max rms value of integral nonlinearity (INL) reduces from 2.10 to 0.21 LSB. In addition, it is demonstrated that by applying grouping optimisation and strategy optimisation, the performance boosting on SFDR can be effectively achieved.
