Youla-Kucera parameterized adaptive tracking control for optical data storage systems

    Get PDF
In the next generation optical data storage systems, the tolerance of the tracking error will become even smaller under various unknown working situations. However, the unknown external disturbances caused by vibrations make it difficult to maintain the desired tracking precision during normal disk operation. It is proposed in this paper to use an adaptive regulation approach to maintain the tracking error below its desired value despite these unknown disturbances. The design of the regulator is formulated by augmenting a base controller into a Youla-Kucera (Q) parameterized set of stabilizing controllers so that both the deterministic and the random disturbances can be deal with properly. The adaptive algorithm is developed to search the desired Q parameter which satisfies the Internal Model Principle and thus the exact regulation against the unknown deterministic disturbance can be achieved. The performance of the proposed control approach is evaluated with experimental results that illustrate the capability of the proposed adaptive regulator to attenuate the unknown disturbances and achieve the desired tracking precision

It is proved that the commutator [A,B]=0 for two matrices A and B if and only if a vector v(B) defined uniquely from the matrix B is in the null space of a well-structured matrix defined as the Kronecker sum A⊕(−A∗), which is always rank defective. This result is extendable directly to any countable set of commuting matrices. Complementary results are derived concerning the commutators of certain matrices with functions of matrices f(A) which extend the well-known sufficiency-type commuting result [A,f(A)]=0.Ministerio de Educación DPI2006-00714 ; Gobierno Vasco GIC07143-IT-269-07 y SAIOTEK S-PE08UN1

Parameterized Regulator Synthesis for Bimodal Linear Systems Based on Bilinear Matrix Inequalities

A regulator design method is presented for switched bimodal linear systems, where it is desired to reject known disturbance signals and/or track known reference inputs. The switching in the bimodal system is defined by a switching surface. The regulator design approach consists of three steps. The first step is based on constructing a switched observer-based state feedback central controller for the switched linear system. The second step involves augmenting the switched central controller with additional dynamics to construct a parameterized set of switched controllers. In the third step, two sufficient regulation conditions are derived for the resulting switched closed loop system. The regulation conditions present guidelines for the selection of the additional dynamics used to parameterize the switched controllers to yield the desired regulator. A regulator synthesis approach is proposed based on solving properly formulated bilinear matrix inequalities. Finally, a numerical example is presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed regulator
