Facial emotion recognition using min-max similarity classifier
Recognition of human emotions from the imaging templates is useful in a wide
variety of human-computer interaction and intelligent systems applications.
However, the automatic recognition of facial expressions using image template
matching techniques suffer from the natural variability with facial features
and recording conditions. In spite of the progress achieved in facial emotion
recognition in recent years, the effective and computationally simple feature
selection and classification technique for emotion recognition is still an open
problem. In this paper, we propose an efficient and straightforward facial
emotion recognition algorithm to reduce the problem of inter-class pixel
mismatch during classification. The proposed method includes the application of
pixel normalization to remove intensity offsets followed-up with a Min-Max
metric in a nearest neighbor classifier that is capable of suppressing feature
outliers. The results indicate an improvement of recognition performance from
92.85% to 98.57% for the proposed Min-Max classification method when tested on
JAFFE database. The proposed emotion recognition technique outperforms the
existing template matching methods
Facial Expression Analysis under Partial Occlusion: A Survey
Automatic machine-based Facial Expression Analysis (FEA) has made substantial
progress in the past few decades driven by its importance for applications in
psychology, security, health, entertainment and human computer interaction. The
vast majority of completed FEA studies are based on non-occluded faces
collected in a controlled laboratory environment. Automatic expression
recognition tolerant to partial occlusion remains less understood, particularly
in real-world scenarios. In recent years, efforts investigating techniques to
handle partial occlusion for FEA have seen an increase. The context is right
for a comprehensive perspective of these developments and the state of the art
from this perspective. This survey provides such a comprehensive review of
recent advances in dataset creation, algorithm development, and investigations
of the effects of occlusion critical for robust performance in FEA systems. It
outlines existing challenges in overcoming partial occlusion and discusses
possible opportunities in advancing the technology. To the best of our
knowledge, it is the first FEA survey dedicated to occlusion and aimed at

A survey of face recognition techniques under occlusion
The limited capacity to recognize faces under occlusions is a long-standing
problem that presents a unique challenge for face recognition systems and even
for humans. The problem regarding occlusion is less covered by research when
compared to other challenges such as pose variation, different expressions,
etc. Nevertheless, occluded face recognition is imperative to exploit the full
potential of face recognition for real-world applications. In this paper, we
restrict the scope to occluded face recognition. First, we explore what the
occlusion problem is and what inherent difficulties can arise. As a part of
this review, we introduce face detection under occlusion, a preliminary step in
face recognition. Second, we present how existing face recognition methods cope
with the occlusion problem and classify them into three categories, which are
1) occlusion robust feature extraction approaches, 2) occlusion aware face
recognition approaches, and 3) occlusion recovery based face recognition
approaches. Furthermore, we analyze the motivations, innovations, pros and
cons, and the performance of representative approaches for comparison. Finally,
future challenges and method trends of occluded face recognition are thoroughly
discussed
People identification and tracking through fusion of facial and gait features
This paper reviews the contemporary (face, gait, and fusion) computational approaches for automatic human identification at a distance. For remote identification, there may exist large intra-class variations that can affect the performance of face/gait systems substantially. First, we review the face recognition algorithms in light of factors, such as illumination, resolution, blur, occlusion, and pose. Then we introduce several popular gait feature templates, and the algorithms against factors such as shoe, carrying condition, camera view, walking surface, elapsed time, and clothing. The motivation of fusing face and gait, is that, gait is less sensitive to the factors that may affect face (e.g., low resolution, illumination, facial occlusion, etc.), while face is robust to the factors that may affect gait (walking surface, clothing, etc.). We review several most recent face and gait fusion methods with different strategies, and the significant performance gains suggest these two modality are complementary for human identification at a distance

In present era of technology , we need applications which could be easy to use and are user-friendly , that even people with specific disabilities use them easily. Facial Expression Recognition has vital role and challenges in communities of computer vision, pattern recognition which provide much more attention due to potential application in many areas such as human machine interaction, surveillance , robotics , driver safety, non- verbal communication, entertainment, health- care and psychology study. Facial Expression Recognition has major importance ration in face recognition for significant image applications understanding and analysis. There are many algorithms have been implemented on different static (uniform background, identical poses, similar illuminations ) and dynamic (position variation, partial occlusion orientation, varying lighting )conditions. In general way face expression recognition consist of three main steps first is face detection then feature Extraction and at last classification. Effect of cooking time on physical properties of almond milk-based lemak cili api gravy
One of the crucial elements in developing or reformulating product is to maintain the quality throughout its entire shelf life. This study aims to determine the effect of different cooking time on the almond milk-based of lemak cili api gravy. Various cooking times of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 minutes were employed to the almond milk-based lemak cili api gravy followed by determination of their effects on physical properties such as total soluble solids content, pH and colour. pH was determined by using a pH meter. Refractometer was used to evaluate the total soluble solids content of almond milk-based lemak cili api gravy. The colours were determined by using spectrophotometer which expressed as L*, a* and b* values. Results showed that almond milk-based lemak cili api gravy has constant values of total soluble solids with pH range of 5 to 6, which can be classified as low acid food. Colour analysis showed that the lightness (L*) and yellowness (b*) are significantly increased while redness (a*) decreased. In conclusion, this study shows that physical properties of almond milk-based lemak cili api gravy changes by increasing the cooking time
