    Raising Students\u27 Concept in Protecting Information Privacy through Information Ethics Education

    The concept of privacy in Chinese context is a fragile perception. Under such a culture environment, the awareness of right of privacy raises late; therefore, it is of necessary raising people the concept of information privacy. To reach this purpose, this study adopts the theory of self-efficacy to examine factors that influence decisions related to information privacy. Further, a longitudinal model is explored whether information ethics education plays a role influencing students’ concept in protecting information privacy. A survey with senior-level undergraduate students is conducted to test the hypothesized model. The findings exhibit an important insight that through information ethics education, students demonstrate a significant change in their confidence of privacy self-efficacy; the increase of this concept noteworthy changes their behavior concerning information privacy protection. Finally, discussions and conclusions are discussed

    The transnational and multi-dimensional nature of Cyberspace and its growing importance presents new frontiers with unparalleled opportunities and challenges for access to information and knowledge, freedom of expression, privacy and ethics. The Internet Study being undertaken by UNESCO is seeking to provide the necessary clarity to support holistic approaches to addressing this broad range of interrelated issues as well as their short and long-term effects. The study was built on a year-long multistakeholder consultation process, which involved several rounds of consultation with member states and other actors, as well as almost 200 major responses to an online questionnaire. The Study includes the Options for future actions of UNESCO in the Internet related issues, which has served as a basis for the Outcome Document as adopted by the CONNECTing the Dots Conference on 3 and 4 March 2015. The Study also affirmed that the same rights that people have offline must be protected online, and good practices are shared between Member States and other stakeholders, in order to address security and privacy concerns on the Internet and in accordance with international human rights obligations. The Study also supports the Internet Universality principles (R.O.A.M) that promote a human rights-based approach, including freedom of expression, privacy, open Internet, accessible to all and characterized by multistakeholder participation

    Implementing Digital Literacy Policies and the Challenges of Towards Smart City in Palembang City

    This research examines digital literacy's role in supporting smart city development in Palembang City by focusing on four key aspects, including digital skills, digital safety, digital ethics, and digital culture. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach to use primary and secondary data. The analysis tool used is Nvivo 12 Plus. These findings successfully analyze the challenges faced in integrating digital literacy in smart city development, including digital literacy gaps, privacy concerns, lack of awareness of benefits, technical challenges, and cultural changes. In addition, the role of government and regulation and cross-sector collaboration are also explained as important factors in creating an environment that supports holistic digital literacy. The results of this study provide a comprehensive view of how digital literacy can play a key role in facing challenges and optimizing the benefits of smart technology in the development of inclusive and sustainable smart cities. This research contributes to stakeholders involved in planning and implementing smart cities, as well as providing directions for effective digital literacy efforts in the future

    This chapter relates the concept of positionality from feminist theory and pedagogy to the Ignatian paradigm to show how its focus on the individual, at the expense of the structural, fails to acknowledge the unequal power relationships that disadvantage students from minority groups. Focusing on the positionality of gay and lesbian students in the author\u27s classroom at a Jesuit college, it explores how becoming attentive to our own positions with respect to our students allows us better to examine how relationships of domination and subordination between members of oppressed and privileged groups in larger social and ecclesial contexts are re-created at the micro-level in the classroom

    Assessment of Nursing Students’ Attitudes Towards Recording and Protecting Patients’ Personal Health Data: A Descriptive Study

    Introduction. Since health information is considered as sensitive personal data and requires more careful protection, healthcare professionals need to be careful about this issue. The objective of this research was to determine nursing students’ attitudes towards recording and protecting patients’ personal health data. Materials and Methods. The population of this descriptive research consisted of 450 students who studied at the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, Erzincan Binali Yildirim University. Sample selection was not used, and the research was completed with 374 students who were continuing education and who were accepted to participate in the research. Descriptive Information template and Attitude Scale for Recording and Protecting Personal Health Data for nursing students were used as data-collection instruments. The numbers, percentage, mean, standard deviation, non-parametric tests (the Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal-Wallis test) were used in data analysis. Results. Among our research participants, 68.4% of the students were females; 28.1% of the students were freshmen; 69% of the students were graduates of Anatolian high schools. Approximately 72.5% and 52.9% of the participants stated that they were aware of the concept of “personal data” and “personal health data” , respectively. The mean score of nursing students on the Attitude Scale for Recording and Protecting Personal Health Data was 3.97±0.71. The means scores obtained from subscales were as follows: 3.91±0.72 for Personal Health Data Information, 4.15±0.80 for Legal Information, 4.05±0.94 for Legal Data Sharing, 3.90±0.80 for Personal Health Data Sharing, and 3.77±0.33 for Recording of Personal Health Data, respectively. A statistically significant difference was found between the total scale and subscale scores of the students regarding their academic level. Conclusions. Students were found to have a positive attitude towards recording and protecting personal data. Increasing the responsibilities and raising awareness of the students for the protection of personal health data during their study is suggested to be important
