Mapping implemented strategies of bringing Internet-based software applications to market using storytelling research methods

University of Technology Sydney. Faculty of Business. The research offers an advanced hermeneutic framework for the study of B2B decision-making processes for software application development. The proposal builds dynamic sensemaking elements onto existing hermeneutic analysis frameworks used in marketing research (Arnold & Fisher 1994; Thompson Pollio & Locander 1994; Thompson 1997). The “hermeneutic circle” is extended to a multilevel “hermeneutic system” starting with written accounts of the decision-making associated with the development and delivery of new software applications – these accounts are then revisited (Langley et al. 1995) through multiple rounds of etic and emic interpretation. An extended form of marketing Decision Systems Analysis (DSA) that complements the advanced hermeneutic analysis framework is also proposed and applied, building on existing B2B Marketing DSA (Hulbert, Farley & Howard 1972; Woodside & Samuel 1981; Woodside 1994; Woodside & Voss 1999) with extended DSA Models, events chronology maps, and cognitive maps. The proposed framework and supporting analysis are applied to six application software houses that created new Internet-based software applications which were either disruptive (Christensen 2003) or supporting disruptive software applications. Findings from six case studies suggest that the hermeneutic research framework proposals provide a strong systematic platform for analysing and interpreting decision-making with deep prospective, introspective, retrospective, and with imaginatively unbounded current and future perspectives. Individual case-study and cross-case findings were incorporated into a set of new and revised theory propositions for software application developer Structuration at individual, firm (including multi-firm) and industry levels. The propositions provide a base of knowledge for the further development of a cognitive view of a software application development firm

The QuickBooks software created and sold by Intuit, Inc. is the most predominantly used accounting software among small businesses. According to a June 19, 2008 press release issued by Intuit, more than 3.7 million businesses use QuickBooks, and it held a 94.2 percent market share for retail units in the business accounting category as of March 2008 (Intuit, 2008). As such, large amounts of financial data and information are created, edited, and stored using QuickBooks. A large majority of these companies will rarely, if ever, have their financial statements or internal control structures audited. However, the accuracy and security of this information is still vitally important

This research aimed to identify the computerized accounting systems employed by Nigerian SMEs, examine the extent to which Nigerian SMEs utilize the built-in internal control features in their computerized accounting systems, as well as explore the perceived reasons for the underutilization of any of the computerized accounting systems internal control features. The researcher employed the survey methodology in the conduct of the study, and data was collected using questionnaire administered to the an accounting officer in each of the 370 firms randomly selected from the population of SMEs in the south-south region of Nigeria. The research data was analyzed using frequencies, mean, standard deviation, and the one-sample T-test statistics. The results of the study indicate that Nigerian SMEs employ various accounting software in the performance of their accounting function, with QuickBooks, Peachtree (Sage 50), and MS-Navision being the most used. The study also indicate that Nigerian SMEs optimally utilize the built-in internal control features in their computerized accounting systems. The reasons for the underutilization of a few of the internal control features by firms are indicated in the study to include lack of awareness of the availability of the internal control features in their accounting systems, limited number of accounting staff, and lack of formal internal control policies. This study extends the body of knowledge in accounting, and its results would be useful to those in the academia, management and accounting personnel of SMEs, and other practitioners. Areas for further research have been suggested to confirm and extend the outcome of this study. Boutique Staffing Firm Internship: How AI is Changing the Staffing Industry

    Get PDF
This paper explores my experience as an Accounting, Finance, and Recruiting Intern for a boutique staffing firm in Memphis, Tennessee during the summer and winter of 2022 and my research on the current uses and future implications of artificial intelligence in the staffing industry. Specifically, it delves into my goals for the internship, my weekly tasks during the internship, and my observations of the internship. Based on my use of artificial intelligence for email marketing during the winter portion of the internship, I research the current uses of AI in the hiring process and the potential uses for the future. The main technologies that I shed light on are Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), conversational AI (ChatGPT), and text-to-image AI (Midjourney and Dall-E 2). I use my findings in my experiences in the internship and in my research of artificial intelligence to conclude that the continuous improvements in AI will lead to the loss of an abundance of white collar jobs, especially in the staffing industry. By examining the main technologies used in the staffing industry, this paper provides insights into how AI will continue to transform the hiring process in the future

This study examines information technology related fields; the education, certification, and experience required for employment in those fields; the outlook for those who would seek employment in IT; and prospective positions resulting from emerging technologies. The study covers employers in the five counties that comprise Southwest Florida - Charlotte (16%), Collier (56%), Glades (4%), Hendy (13%), and Lee (47%) - and clusters employers into four groups ranging from 1-5 to greater than 500.Preface ………………………………………………………………………………. 1 Executive Summary ……………………………………………………………. 4 Introduction & Methodology……………………………………………… 8 I. Versioning and Quality Distortion in Software? Evidence from E-CommercePanel Data

    Get PDF
We present a framework for measuring software quality using pricing and demand data, and empirical estimates that quantify the extent of quality degradation associated with software ver- sioning. Using a 7-month, 108-product panel of software sales from Amazon.com, we document the extent to which quality varies across different software versions, estimating quality degradation that ranges from as little as 8% to as much as 56% below that of the corresponding flagship ver- sion. Consistent with prescriptions from the theory of vertical di¤erentiation, we also find that an increase in the total number of versions is associated with an increase in the difference in quality between the highest and lowest quality versions, and a decrease in the quality difference between 'neighboring' versions. We compare our estimates with those derived from two sets of subjective measures of quality, based on CNET editorial ratings and Amazon.com user reviews, and discuss competing interpretations of the significant differences that emerge from this comparison. As the first empirical study of software versioning that is based on both subjective and econometrically estimated measures of quality, this paper provides a framework for testing a wide variety of results in IS that are based on related models of vertical differentiation, and its findings have important implications for studies that treat web-based user ratings as cardinal data

Implementation plan of health and safety processes

    Get PDF
An auditor was asked to review an organisation’s Health and Safety procedures to assess compliance with the new legislation imposed by The Health and Safety Act 2015. Then the organisation approached an internal source to conduct a strategic plan in order to target issues of health and safety risk. An implementation plan will be designed to achieve the auditors recommendations and improve the organisation’s Health and Safety practices. Research and audit of the current policies and procedures used at the organisation must be conducted in order to gain a better understanding of the current issues and from there develop action plans and a strategy on how to reach those action plans. Current documentation of policies and an interview with management will be analysed to detail the potential action plans.Once the research has been conducted, results will be used to determine conclusions
