Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, School of Architecture and Planning, Program in Media Arts and Sciences, 2001.Includes bibliographical references (p. 87-90).The emergence of digital music on the Internet requires new information retrieval methods adapted to specific characteristics and needs. While music retrieval based on the text information, such as title, composers, or subject classification, has been implemented in many existing systems, retrieval of a piece of music based on musical content, especially an incomplete, imperfect recall of a fragment of the music, has not yet been fully explored. This thesis will explore both theoretical and practical issues involved in a web-based melody retrieval system. I built a query-by-humming system, which can find a piece of music in the digital music repository based on a few hummed notes. Since an input query (hummed melody) may have various errors due to uncertainty of the user's memory or the user's singing ability, the system should be able to tolerate errors. Furthermore, extracting melodies to build a melody database is also a complicated task. Therefore, melody representation, query construction, melody matching and melody extraction are critical for an efficient and robust query-by-humming system. Thus, these are the main tasks to be addressed in the thesis. Compared to previous systems, a new and more effective melody representation and corresponding matching methods which combined both pitch and rhythmic information were adopted, a whole set of tools and deliverable software were implemented, and experiments were conducted to evaluate the system performance as well as to explore other melody perception issues. Experimental results demonstrate that our methods incorporating rhythmic information rather than previous pitch-only methods did help improving the effectiveness of a query-by-humming system.by Wei Chai.S.M

    Digital libraries for creative communities

Digital library technologies have a great deal to offer to creative, design communities. They can enable large collections of text, images, music, video and other information objects to be organised and accessed in interesting and diverse ways. Ordinary people—people not traditionally viewed as 'creators' or 'designers'—can now conceive, assemble, build, and disseminate new information collections. This paper explores the development rationale behind the Greenstone digital library technology. We also examine three examples of creative new techniques for accessing and presenting information in digital libraries and stress the importance of tailoring information access to support the requirements of the users and application area

Organizing digital music for use: an examination of personal music collections

    Get PDF
Current research on music information retrieval and music digital libraries focuses on providing access to huge, public music collections. In this paper we consider a different, but related, problem: supporting an individual in maintaining and using a personal music collection. We analyze organization and access techniques used to manage personal music collections (primarily CDs and MP3 files), and from these behaviors, to suggest user behaviors that should be supported in a personal music digital library (that is, a digital library of an individual's personal music collection)

    Website Content Analyzer SEO Tool

Search Engine Optimization is making your website easy for both users and search engine robots to understand. SEO helps the engines figure out what each page is about and how it may be useful for users. SEOs tend to use a lot of tools. Some of the most useful are provided by the search engines themselves. A Website Content Analyzer for SEO Tool is a replacement of the current tools. It not only works for some specific task but shows the overall analysis of the website pages and also presents it in the complete and pending percentage format. Through this the developer is able to approximate how much percent SEO is remaining and how much percent is completed for particular page. Website Content Analyzer for SEO tool is a component of SEO. To do SEO for a website means making use of correct SEO tools and make the website up to the mark for top page ranking. All the developer should have is a website URL and a correct tool to do SEO. Website Content Analyzer is going to use the Google’s algorithm for page ranking and hence the SEO of the website is done by keeping Google’s algorithm in mind. DOI: 10.17762/ijritcc2321-8169.15015

Effectiveness of Super-plasticizer on High Volume Slag (GGBS) Concrete

    Get PDF
This research was conducted to determine the optimum dosage of super-plasticizer for producing highly workable and high strength concrete using high volume of slag (GGBS). Replacement of high volume slag in cement incorporating super-plasticizer will contribute to increased strength; increased workability; reduced porosity and permeability. Super-plasticized high - volume slag with 40% of Portland cement replacement were produced by using different concentration of chemical admixtures which is Naphthalene Formaldehyle Sulphonate also known as Sikament Nl. A 100% of Ordinary Portland Cement for control mix without super-plasticizer was prepared. Seven mixes were using 60 per cent of high volume of GGBS and 40 per cent of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) with different percentage of superplasticizer from 0 per cent to 3 per cent; and constant water/cement (w/c) ratio of 0.40, course aggregate (14mm sieve) and sand. The measurement will be conduct under workability, compressive strength, porosity and gas permeability of the concrete. The duration or ages for measuring was divided in to 3-days, 7 -days, 28- days and 90-days. There were 3 samples have to provide for each mix and each type of sample. However, the conclusion of result is still pending due to the slow development of compressive strength of concrete and further research with higher dosage of super-plasticizer

Multimedia Chinese Web Search Engines: A Survey

    Get PDF
The objective of this paper is to explore the state of multimedia search functionality on major general and dedicated Web search engines in Chinese language. The authors studied: a) how many Chinese Web search engines presently make use of multimedia searching, and b) the type of multimedia search functionality available. Specifically, the following were examined: a) multimedia features - features allowing multimedia search; and b) extent of personalization - the extent to which a search engine Web site allows users to control multimedia search. Overall, Chinese Web search engines offer limited multimedia searching functionality. The significance of the study is based on two factors: a) little research has been conducted on Chinese Web search engines, and b) the instrument used in the study and the results obtained by this research could help users, Web designers, and Web search engine developers. By large, general Web search engines support more multimedia features than specialized one
