    Process Mining Concepts for Discovering User Behavioral Patterns in Instrumented Software

    Process Mining is a technique for discovering “in-use” processes from traces emitted to event logs. Researchers have recently explored applying this technique to documenting processes discovered in software applications. However, the requirements for emitting events to support Process Mining against software applications have not been well documented. Furthermore, the linking of end-user intentional behavior to software quality as demonstrated in the discovered processes has not been well articulated. After evaluating the literature, this thesis suggested focusing on user goals and actual, in-use processes as an input to an Agile software development life cycle in order to improve software quality. It also provided suggestions for instrumenting software applications to support Process Mining techniques

    Automated run-time mission and dialog generation

    Current mission driven systems, be they games or training simulations, are generally restricted to using a set of training missions that are hard coded into the system. This has the unfortunate effect of limiting the number of times a person or team can be sent through a simulator before it begins to lose its training value or the number of times a person can replay a game without it becoming predictable and somewhat boring. The fact that all of the mission parameters must be hard coded also increases the time required for scenario development. This study defines an architecture for automating the creation of missions at run time allowing much larger variety in the number and content of missions in a given system. Our architecture also allows for the creation of varied and more believable dialog with minimal scenario creation time required. We also explore an alternate method for determining agents attitudes towards the users avatar which is more robust than the more commonly used system and which can be used as an input to dialog generation further improving the realism of the dialog.     DEMONSTRATING THE STRENGTH OF DIVERSITY A walk around the UNM campus as students change classes demonstrates UNM\\u27s commitment to diversity. Students and professors from a variety of ethnic backgrounds crowd the sidewalks and fill classrooms. Over the past year UNM moved forward with existing and new programs to interest more minority students, faculty and staff in the University and to aid in their success while here. Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education recently recognized the University\\u27s endeavors, ranking UNM as one of the best colleges in the nation at graduating Hispanic students. Provost Mary Sue Coleman says diversity contributes to a stimulating environment where faculty and students have different points of view and experiences. The campus becomes a more intellectually alive place, she says. The efforts to build a diverse campus go hand in hand with the University\\u27s goals of achieving academic excellence and attracting the best and brightest. MINORITY ENROLLMENT In the fall of 1994 a total of 32 percent of the student body came from underrepresented groups. The UNM School of Law had the largest number of Native Americans enrolled in any law school in the country
