Application of multichannel electrical stimulation of the neck nervous structures in patients with depressive disorders: An fMRI case study

The article presents the pilot functional neuroimaging study results of the treatment process by means neuro-electrostimulator SYMPATHOCOR-01 in patients with depressive disorder. The study involved three patients. The changes in the brain's default mode network (DMN) as a result of neuro-electrostimulation course are demonstrated. Along with clinical improvement (HDRS-21 and BDI-II scales), changes in DMN's performance from neuroimaging data are shown. An increase in the medial prefrontal cortex and cingulate gyrus functional connection activity with various parts of the brain was noted. These changes indicate the activation of neuroplasticity processes and restoring the work of DMN in patients with depression. © 2019 by SCITEPRESS - Science and Technology Publications, Lda. Processing the results of electroencephalography for patients suffering from depression after neuro-electrostimulation course: Case study

The article presented the results of electroencephalography (EEG) signal processing in a case study of neuro-electrostimulation application for patients suffering from depression. Neuro-electrostimulation was performed by the SYMPATHOCOR-01 device in two modes - multichannel and single-channel stimulation. The analysis of changes in the EEG activity maps during neuro-electrostimulation course was carried out. The common conclusion for all patients is an increase in the homogeneity for the distribution of spectral power density for EEG signals. A quantitative method for estimating the level of the brain zones activation was proposed. For patients from the multichannel stimulation group, an increase in the activation level was observed. It was noted that for patients from the single-channel stimulation group there were zones in which a significant decrease in the level of activation was observed. © 2019 by SCITEPRESS - Science and Technology Publications, Lda. Investigation of the neuro-electrostimulation mechanisms by means of the functional MRI: Case study

The article overviewed contemporary neuromodulation approaches and challenges. The importance of the neurostimulation techniques was justified. The SYMPATHOCOR-01 neuro-electrostimulation device characterization was presented. The case study of the neuro-electrostimulation mechanisms by means of the neuroimaging was described. Case study consisted of 3 phases: imaging prior to the neuro-electrostimulation procedure, imaging right after the neuro-electrostimulation procedure and imaging after a 5-day stimulation course. Results of the functional magnetic resonance imaging revealed improvement of the functional connectivity strength in several brain regions as well as normalization of default mode network activity. Study of the neuro-electrostimulation influence on the head skin capillary blood flow

The pilot study of the ‘SYMPATHOCOR-01’ neuro-electrostimulation device influence on the head skin capillary blood flow is described. The infrared thermographic camera was used for the head skin capillary blood flow registration. The analysis of the registered thermograms was performed for mean head skin temperature evaluation. The experiment has shown that application of the neuro-electrostimulator in the blocking mode of the sympathetic nervous system caused the decrease of the head surface temperature. The temperature decrease is associated with the perfusion rate increase on the capillary level, which is in agreement with the neuro-electrostimulation application techniques. Correction of attention in a learning ability task with using non-invasive neurostimulation of peripheral nervous system

The paper contains the results of pilot research on neuro-electrostimulation influence with a help of special field of the current pulses on characteristics of attention, which are some of the main parameters of the learning process. The method of dynamic correction of the activity of the sympathetic nervous system implemented by means of the «SYMPATHOCOR-01» device for improving educational and cognitive parameters is proposed. It is shown that the attention parameters such as speed and productivity can be improved by using neuro-electrostimulation. Also, it was shown that some of the autonomic nervous system characteristics, in particular LF and VLF spectral components of heart rate variability, can be chosen as indicators of human efficiency changes. The paper describes peculiarities of the organizational and control principles of the new implementation of the “SYMPATHOCOR-01” device. Necessity of the device division into two blocks, having different functions, was justified. The specifics of the schematic implementation were mentioned. Advantages of the wireless connection between two blocks were shown. Particular possibilities and actual implementation of the control block via Android application for mobile devices were presented. The potential targets for the neuro-electrostimulation that affect autonomic processes were considered. Copyright © 2017 by SCITEPRESS – Science and Technology Publications, Lda. All rights reserved

In the article methodology of FEM stimulation of thermal effects, caused by neck-region neuro-electrostimulation was shown. Algorithm of the voxel model conversion to the 3-D objects represented as the complex of the STL-files was described. The evaluation of the temperature in the biological tissues is based on the association of the partial thermal changes, caused by the harmonics components of the pulsed neuro-electrostimulation signal. Features of the thermal changes in the neck region were considered for the neuro-electrostimulation by means of the current pulse field formed in the "SYMPATHOCOR-01" device. Results have shown that for modulation frequencies in range 45-55 Hz, duration of the partial pulses 25-30 us, current pulse amplitude less than 13 mA, the neuro-electrostimulation does not cause thermal changes higher than 0.1 K.
