    An observer-based type-3 fuzzy control for non-holonomic wheeled robots

    Non-holonomic wheeled robots (NWR) comprise a type of robotic system; they use wheels for movement and offer several advantages over other types. They are efficient, highly, and maneuverable, making them ideal for factory automation, logistics, transportation, and healthcare. The control of this type of robot is complicated, due to the complexity of modeling, asymmetrical non-holonomic constraints, and unknown perturbations in various applications. Therefore, in this study, a novel type-3 (T3) fuzzy logic system (FLS)-based controller is developed for NWRs. T3-FLSs are employed for modeling, and the modeling errors are considered in stability analysis based on the symmetric Lyapunov function. An observer is designed to detect the error, and its effect is eliminated by a developed terminal sliding mode controller (SMC). The designed technique is used to control a case-study NWR, and the results demonstrate the good accuracy of the developed scheme under non-holonomic constraints, unknown dynamics, and nonlinear disturbances

    Integral sliding mode control of an extended Heisenberg system

    International audienceThis paper deals with the practical robust stabilization and tracking problems of the perturbed multidimensional Heisenberg system with some additional integrators in the control input path. This objective is achieved by the use of variable structure control laws with an integral augmented sliding variable. This note shows how to select the integral sliding surface in such a way that the practical stabilization of the extended Heisenberg system is achieved in spite of the uncertainties and without loss of controllability. Experimental results on a wheeled mobile robot show the performance of the proposed controller for the practical stabilization and tracking problems

    Virtual Structure Based Formation Tracking of Multiple Wheeled Mobile Robots: An Optimization Perspective

    Today, with the increasing development of science and technology, many systems need to be optimized to find the optimal solution of the system. this kind of problem is also called optimization problem. Especially in the formation problem of multi-wheeled mobile robots, the optimization algorithm can help us to find the optimal solution of the formation problem. In this paper, the formation problem of multi-wheeled mobile robots is studied from the point of view of optimization. In order to reduce the complexity of the formation problem, we first put the robots with the same requirements into a group. Then, by using the virtual structure method, the formation problem is reduced to a virtual WMR trajectory tracking problem with placeholders, which describes the expected position of each WMR formation. By using placeholders, you can get the desired track for each WMR. In addition, in order to avoid the collision between multiple WMR in the group, we add an attraction to the trajectory tracking method. Because MWMR in the same team have different attractions, collisions can be easily avoided. Through simulation analysis, it is proved that the optimization model is reasonable and correct. In the last part, the limitations of this model and corresponding suggestions are given

    A Fuzzy LQR PID Control for a Two-Legged Wheel Robot with Uncertainties and Variant Height

    This paper proposes a fuzzy LQR PID control for a two-legged wheeled balancing robot for keeping stability against uncertainties and variant heights. The proposed control includes the fuzzy supervisor, LQR, PID, and two calibrations. The fuzzy LQR is conducted to control the stability and motion of the robot while its posture changes with respect to time. The fuzzy supervisor is used to adjust the LQR control according to the robotic height. It consists of one input and one output. The input and output have three membership functions, respectively, to three postures of the robot. The PID control is used to control the posture of the robot. The first calibration is used to compensate for the bias value of the tilting angle when the robot changes its posture. The second calibration is applied to compute the robotic height according to the hip angle. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control, a practical robot with the variant height is constructed, and the proposed control is embedded in the control board. Finally, two experiments are also conducted to verify the balancing and moving ability of the robot with the variant posture

    Antifragile Control Systems: The case of mobile robot trajectory tracking in the presence of uncertainty

    Mobile robots are ubiquitous. Such vehicles benefit from well-designed and calibrated control algorithms ensuring their task execution under precise uncertainty bounds. Yet, in tasks involving humans in the loop, such as elderly or mobility impaired, the problem takes a new dimension. In such cases, the system needs not only to compensate for uncertainty and volatility in its operation but at the same time to anticipate and offer responses that go beyond robust. Such robots operate in cluttered, complex environments, akin to human residences, and need to face during their operation sensor and, even, actuator faults, and still operate. This is where our thesis comes into the foreground. We propose a new control design framework based on the principles of antifragility. Such a design is meant to offer a high uncertainty anticipation given previous exposure to failures and faults, and exploit this anticipation capacity to provide performance beyond robust. In the current instantiation of antifragile control applied to mobile robot trajectory tracking, we provide controller design steps, the analysis of performance under parametrizable uncertainty and faults, as well as an extended comparative evaluation against state-of-the-art controllers. We believe in the potential antifragile control has in achieving closed-loop performance in the face of uncertainty and volatility by using its exposures to uncertainty to increase its capacity to anticipate and compensate for such events

    Synchronizing of Stabilizing Platform Mounted on a Two-Wheeled Robot

    This paper represents the designing, building, and testing of a self-stabilizing platform mounted on a self-balancing robot. For the self-stabilizing platform, a servo motor is used and for the self-balancing robot, two dc motors are used with an encoder, inertial measurement unit, motor driver, an Arduino UNO microcontroller board. A PID controller is used to control the balancing of the system. The PID controller gains (Kp, Ki, and Kd) were evaluated experimentally. The value of the tilted angle from IMU was fed to the PID controller to control the actuated motors for balancing the system. For the self-stabilizing control part, whenever the robot tilted, it maintained the horizontal position by rotating that much in the opposite direction

    Integral Sliding Mode Control for Trajectory Tracking of Wheeled Mobile Robot in Presence of Uncertainties

    Wheeled mobile robots present a typical case of complex systems with nonholonomic constraints. In the past few years, the dominance of these systems has been a very active research field. In this paper, a new method based on an integral sliding mode control for the trajectory tracking of wheeled mobile robots is proposed. The controller is designed to solve the reaching phase problem with the elimination of matched disturbances and minimize the unmatched one. We distinguish two parts in the suggested controller: a high-level controller to stabilize the nominal system and a discontinuous controller to assess the trajectory tracking in the presence of disturbances. This controller is robust during the entire motion. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is demonstrated through simulation studies for the unicycle with matched and unmatched disturbances
