Text in English with abstracts in English, Sesotho and isiXhosaThe importance of investment information seeking cannot be overemphasised. Seeking information to support investment decision-making is a key component of every successful investment business. The literature review revealed that informed investors make greater use of accounting disclosures and non-earnings information in order to form more precise earnings expectations. By contrast, a lack of accurate investment information makes it difficult for investors to decide when to buy, hold or sell their investment. This study investigated information needs and seeking behaviour of black investors in the MTN Asonge scheme in Capricorn District of Limpopo Province. The study endeavoured to acquire understanding of investors’ information needs and how they seek information to support their investment decisions. To this end, a qualitative phenomenological research approach was followed. Purposive snowball sampling was applied to sample the study respondents who were later interviewed. Semi-structured, face-to-face interviews were conducted with six investors to collect data which were subsequently analysed thematically. The three types of information sources identified as core to investment decision-making include personal, online and printed information. The findings showed that although the majority of MTN Asonge investors were aware of different formats in which investment information is available, they did not use modern electronic information storing and retrieval strategies, such as conducting online internet searches to access information published on corporate websites. The respondents experienced various challenges when seeking investment information, opting to rely on personal sources such as friends, close relatives and colleagues. Furthermore, the investors appeared not to be aware of personal information sources such as investment advisors, information brokers, roundtables and one-on-one discussions. The study recommended intensive investor education as well as a comparative investigation of information seeking behaviour amongst other members of BEE investment schemes in South Africa.Bohlokwa bja go nyaka tshedimošo ya peeletšo bo ka se gatelelwe go fetišiša. Online Advice Taking: Examining the Effects of Self-Efficacy, Computerized Sources, and Perceived Credibility

    Get PDF
The Internet offers limitless advice on a multitude of products and services. The quality of the advice varies and is inherently a matter of human judgment. To help users determine the quality of advice and whether to use the advice, design features of web sites include information about the type and credibility of the advice source. This research examines how characteristics of the online user (i.e., self-efficacy) and characteristics of the advice source (i.e., type and credibility) affect advice taking in an online investing context. A laboratory experiment provides evidence that users with higher levels of self-efficacy are less likely to take advice than those with lower levels of self-efficacy. Results also suggest users given highly credible advice are more likely to take the advice compared to users who receive advice with dubious credibility. The implications are discussed

The digitalization of trading is developing rapidly, but legal awareness has not been well developed. Although digital trading is fairly new in the world of economics in this country, it has been able to attract the attention of many people, especially business people, to become traders. Digital trading refers to trading activities using applications on smartphones or trading software commonly called trading robots. But unfortunately, the rise of digital trading activities is not accompanied by regulations that guarantee the safety of novice traders. Together with the inhabitants of Pekalongan's ignorance of the rules and laws pertaining to trading activities on the capital market. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that prevent Pekalongan citizens from being aware of the legal implications of digital trading and know the implications of the lack of legal awareness of the people of Pekalongan regarding digital trading. This study employs both statutory and conceptual approaches and is grounded in empirical legal research. Techniques for descriptive qualitative data analysis. The population of Pekalongan served as the sample for this study, which used a random sampling technique. The findings of this study indicate that low literacy rates and a lack of interest in commodities trade are the main causes of the lack of legal awareness among Pekalongan residents (trading). The consequences of the people of Pekalongan's lack of legal awareness with regard to digital trading are: 1) They lack legal protection in transactions involving digital trading, and 2) They are vulnerable to fraud and losses in such transactions.

Conceptual Understanding of the Role of Human Resource Development in Road Safety

    Get PDF
Human resource development (HRD) involves improving the knowledge, skills and attitude of people for personal growth and excellence. Using the same analogy of HRD, it can be applied to safety management on the roads. People can be taught the knowledge, skills and attitude required for the safe use of roads. It is very important because the analysis of the various causes of road accidents clearly demonstrates the preponderant role played by the human factor. This aspect thus constitutes a fundamental component of danger on the roads and has become even more important in relative terms due to the significant progress achieved in recent years in the other relevant spheres of action which are traditionally, the improvement of the road network and of the designing safe vehicles. Road users include, pedestrians, luggage carriers, horse riders, bullock carts as well as those who ride bicycles, tricycles, motorized two wheelers, cars, vans, trucks, tractors, and buses

Understanding the Impact of AI Decision speed and Historical Decision Quality on User adoption in AI-assisted Decision Making

    Get PDF
Artificial intelligence (AI) has shown increasing potential in assisting users with decision-making. However, the impact of AI decision speed on users\u27 adoption intention has received limited attention compared to the focus on decision quality. Building on cue utilization theory, this study investigates the influence of AI decision speed on users\u27 intention to adopt AI. Three experiments were conducted, revealing that users exhibit a higher intention to adopt AI when AI\u27s decision speed is higher and historical decision quality is better. Furthermore, the perceived intelligence and perceived risk in decision-making act as mediating variables in these effects. Importantly, the study finds that historical decision quality moderates the relationship between AI decision speed and user adoption, weakening the impact in conditions of high quality. These findings contribute to the understanding of AI adoption and offer practical implications for AI service providers and developers

    Get PDF
People are using the Internet for financial planning assistance. Yet those seeking advice on the Internet rarely tend to question the advice source. Little research has examined the unique aspects of online financial advice taking. Online advice offers a unique setting which does not mirror offline advice . This paper addresses the research questions (1) What kinds of people are more likely to change their investment decisions given different online source characteristics, (2) How do people change their investment decisions given the disclosure of human vs. computer advice sources, and (3) How do people change their investment decisions given the disclosure of source credibility? This study finds that users with higher levels of task-specific self-efficacy are less likely to take advice and certain online design features influence changes in investment advice taking

Flux Guard: An Exploration of Situational Rigidity

In 2014 there was an estimated 15 million snowboarders worldwide. Like many extreme sports there is always the possibility of injury. Extensive research has shown snowboarders sustain more wrist injuries than any other sport in the world. In particular beginner or novice snowboarders are the most susceptible to injury and often times wear no protective gear when first learning. Although there has been research into the efficacy of upper extremity protection in snowboarding, a universal standard has yet to be developed to judge current wrist protection. Due to this fact my thesis explores innovative ways to reinvent the wrist guard through the lense of a designer concerned with the socio-ergonomic issues of current wrist guard protection. Throughout my thesis I’ll be exploring ways that design can encourage wrist protection use with in the beginner snowboard community
