Maximum-rate Transmission with Improved Diversity Gain for Interference Networks
Interference alignment (IA) was shown effective for interference management
to improve transmission rate in terms of the degree of freedom (DoF) gain. On
the other hand, orthogonal space-time block codes (STBCs) were widely used in
point-to-point multi-antenna channels to enhance transmission reliability in
terms of the diversity gain. In this paper, we connect these two ideas, i.e.,
IA and space-time block coding, to improve the designs of alignment precoders
for multi-user networks. Specifically, we consider the use of Alamouti codes
for IA because of its rate-one transmission and achievability of full diversity
in point-to-point systems. The Alamouti codes protect the desired link by
introducing orthogonality between the two symbols in one Alamouti codeword, and
create alignment at the interfering receiver. We show that the proposed
alignment methods can maintain the maximum DoF gain and improve the ergodic
mutual information in the long-term regime, while increasing the diversity gain
to 2 in the short-term regime. The presented examples of interference networks
have two antennas at each node and include the two-user X channel, the
interferring multi-access channel (IMAC), and the interferring broadcast
channel (IBC).Comment: submitted to IEEE Transactions on Information Theor
Cooperative Compute-and-Forward
We examine the benefits of user cooperation under compute-and-forward. Much
like in network coding, receivers in a compute-and-forward network recover
finite-field linear combinations of transmitters' messages. Recovery is enabled
by linear codes: transmitters map messages to a linear codebook, and receivers
attempt to decode the incoming superposition of signals to an integer
combination of codewords. However, the achievable computation rates are low if
channel gains do not correspond to a suitable linear combination. In response
to this challenge, we propose a cooperative approach to compute-and-forward. We
devise a lattice-coding approach to block Markov encoding with which we
construct a decode-and-forward style computation strategy. Transmitters
broadcast lattice codewords, decode each other's messages, and then
cooperatively transmit resolution information to aid receivers in decoding the
integer combinations. Using our strategy, we show that cooperation offers a
significant improvement both in the achievable computation rate and in the
diversity-multiplexing tradeoff.Comment: submitted to IEEE Transactions on Information Theor
A High-Diversity Transceiver Design for MISO Broadcast Channels
In this paper, the outage behavior and diversity order of the mixture
transceiver architecture for multiple-input single-output broadcast channels
are analyzed. The mixture scheme groups users with closely-aligned channels and
applies superposition coding and successive interference cancellation decoding
to each group composed of users with closely-aligned channels, while applying
zero-forcing beamforming across semi-orthogonal user groups. In order to enable
such analysis, closed-form lower bounds on the achievable rates of a general
multiple-input single-output broadcast channel with superposition coding and
successive interference cancellation are newly derived. By employing
channel-adaptive user grouping and proper power allocation, which ensures that
the channel subspaces of user groups have angle larger than a certain
threshold, it is shown that the mixture transceiver architecture achieves full
diversity order in multiple-input single-output broadcast channels and
opportunistically increases the multiplexing gain while achieving full
diversity order. Furthermore, the achieved full diversity order is the same as
that of the single-user maximum ratio transmit beamforming. Hence, the mixture
scheme can provide reliable communication under channel fading for
ultra-reliable low latency communication. Numerical results validate our
analysis and show the outage superiority of the mixture scheme over
conventional transceiver designs for multiple-input single-output broadcast
channels.Comment: The inner region is evaluated. The single-group SIC performance is
