XML Schema Clustering with Semantic and Hierarchical Similarity Measures
With the growing popularity of XML as the data representation language, collections of the XML data are exploded in numbers. The methods are required to manage and discover the useful information from them for the improved document handling. We present a schema clustering process by organising the heterogeneous XML schemas into various groups. The methodology considers not only the linguistic and the context of the elements but also the hierarchical structural similarity. We support our findings with experiments and analysis
A Progressive Clustering Algorithm to Group the XML Data by Structural and Semantic Similarity
Since the emergence in the popularity of XML for data representation and exchange over the Web, the distribution of XML documents has rapidly increased. It has become a challenge for researchers to turn these documents into a more useful information utility. In this paper, we introduce a novel clustering algorithm PCXSS that keeps the heterogeneous XML documents into various groups according to their similar structural and semantic representations. We develop a global criterion function CPSim that progressively measures the similarity between a XML document and existing clusters, ignoring the need to compute the similarity between two individual documents. The experimental analysis shows the method to be fast and accurate
Computational Models (of Narrative) for Literary Studies
In the last decades a growing body of literature in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cognitive
Science (CS) has approached the problem of narrative understanding by means of computational
systems. Narrative, in fact, is an ubiquitous element in our everyday activity and
the ability to generate and understand stories, and their structures, is a crucial cue of our intelligence.
However, despite the fact that - from an historical standpoint - narrative (and narrative
structures) have been an important topic of investigation in both these areas, a more
comprehensive approach coupling them with narratology, digital humanities and literary
studies was still lacking.
With the aim of covering this empty space, in the last years, a multidisciplinary effort
has been made in order to create an international meeting open to computer scientist, psychologists,
digital humanists, linguists, narratologists etc.. This event has been named CMN
(for Computational Models of Narrative) and was launched in the 2009 by the MIT scholars

Enabling Distributed Knowledge Management: Managerial and Technological Implications
In this paper we show that the typical architecture of current KM systems re.ects an objectivistic epistemology and a traditional managerial control paradigm. We argue that such an objectivistic epistemology is inconsistent with many theories on the nature of knowledge, in which subjectivity and sociality are taken as essential features of knowledge creation and sharing. We show that adopting such a new epistemological view has dramatic consequences at an architectural, managerial and technological level
