Weak Alternating Timed Automata
Alternating timed automata on infinite words are considered. The main result
is a characterization of acceptance conditions for which the emptiness problem
for these automata is decidable. This result implies new decidability results
for fragments of timed temporal logics. It is also shown that, unlike for MITL,
the characterisation remains the same even if no punctual constraints are
allowed
One-Tape Turing Machine Variants and Language Recognition
We present two restricted versions of one-tape Turing machines. Both
characterize the class of context-free languages. In the first version,
proposed by Hibbard in 1967 and called limited automata, each tape cell can be
rewritten only in the first visits, for a fixed constant .
Furthermore, for deterministic limited automata are equivalent to
deterministic pushdown automata, namely they characterize deterministic
context-free languages. Further restricting the possible operations, we
consider strongly limited automata. These models still characterize
context-free languages. However, the deterministic version is less powerful
than the deterministic version of limited automata. In fact, there exist
deterministic context-free languages that are not accepted by any deterministic

Counter Machines and Distributed Automata: A Story about Exchanging Space and Time
We prove the equivalence of two classes of counter machines and one class of
distributed automata. Our counter machines operate on finite words, which they
read from left to right while incrementing or decrementing a fixed number of
counters. The two classes differ in the extra features they offer: one allows
to copy counter values, whereas the other allows to compute copyless sums of
counters. Our distributed automata, on the other hand, operate on directed path
graphs that represent words. All nodes of a path synchronously execute the same
finite-state machine, whose state diagram must be acyclic except for
self-loops, and each node receives as input the state of its direct
predecessor. These devices form a subclass of linear-time one-way cellular

Weak Singular Hybrid Automata
The framework of Hybrid automata, introduced by Alur, Courcourbetis,
Henzinger, and Ho, provides a formal modeling and analysis environment to
analyze the interaction between the discrete and the continuous parts of
cyber-physical systems. Hybrid automata can be considered as generalizations of
finite state automata augmented with a finite set of real-valued variables
whose dynamics in each state is governed by a system of ordinary differential
equations. Moreover, the discrete transitions of hybrid automata are guarded by
constraints over the values of these real-valued variables, and enable
discontinuous jumps in the evolution of these variables. Singular hybrid
automata are a subclass of hybrid automata where dynamics is specified by
state-dependent constant vectors. Henzinger, Kopke, Puri, and Varaiya showed
that for even very restricted subclasses of singular hybrid automata, the
fundamental verification questions, like reachability and schedulability, are
undecidable. In this paper we present \emph{weak singular hybrid automata}
(WSHA), a previously unexplored subclass of singular hybrid automata, and show
the decidability (and the exact complexity) of various verification questions
for this class including reachability (NP-Complete) and LTL model-checking
(PSPACE-Complete). We further show that extending WSHA with a single
unrestricted clock or extending WSHA with unrestricted variable updates lead to
undecidability of reachability problem
