Rewriting Modulo \beta in the \lambda\Pi-Calculus Modulo

The lambda-Pi-calculus Modulo is a variant of the lambda-calculus with dependent types where beta-conversion is extended with user-defined rewrite rules. It is an expressive logical framework and has been used to encode logics and type systems in a shallow way. Basic properties such as subject reduction or uniqueness of types do not hold in general in the lambda-Pi-calculus Modulo. However, they hold if the rewrite system generated by the rewrite rules together with beta-reduction is confluent. But this is too restrictive. To handle the case where non confluence comes from the interference between the beta-reduction and rewrite rules with lambda-abstraction on their left-hand side, we introduce a notion of rewriting modulo beta for the lambda-Pi-calculus Modulo. We prove that confluence of rewriting modulo beta is enough to ensure subject reduction and uniqueness of types. We achieve our goal by encoding the lambda-Pi-calculus Modulo into Higher-Order Rewrite System (HRS). As a consequence, we also make the confluence results for HRSs available for the lambda-Pi-calculus Modulo.Comment: In Proceedings LFMTP 2015, arXiv:1507.0759

    Some Axioms for Mathematics

The ??-calculus modulo theory is a logical framework in which many logical systems can be expressed as theories. We present such a theory, the theory {U}, where proofs of several logical systems can be expressed. Moreover, we identify a sub-theory of {U} corresponding to each of these systems, and prove that, when a proof in {U} uses only symbols of a sub-theory, then it is a proof in that sub-theory

The ??-calculus modulo theory is a logical framework in which various logics and type systems can be encoded, thus helping the cross-verification and interoperability of proof systems based on those logics and type systems. In this paper, we show how to encode predicate subtyping and proof irrelevance, two important features of the PVS proof assistant. We prove that this encoding is correct and that encoded proofs can be mechanically checked by Dedukti, a type checker for the ??-calculus modulo theory using rewriting

The λΠ\lambda\Pi-calculus modulo theory is a logical framework in which many type systems can be expressed as theories. We present such a theory, the theory U\mathcal{U}, where proofs of several logical systems can be expressed. Moreover, we identify a sub-theory of U\mathcal{U} corresponding to each of these systems, and prove that, when a proof in U\mathcal{U} uses only symbols of a sub-theory, then it is a proof in that sub-theory

Mixin Composition Synthesis based on Intersection Types

We present a method for synthesizing compositions of mixins using type inhabitation in intersection types. First, recursively defined classes and mixins, which are functions over classes, are expressed as terms in a lambda calculus with records. Intersection types with records and record-merge are used to assign meaningful types to these terms without resorting to recursive types. Second, typed terms are translated to a repository of typed combinators. We show a relation between record types with record-merge and intersection types with constructors. This relation is used to prove soundness and partial completeness of the translation with respect to mixin composition synthesis. Furthermore, we demonstrate how a translated repository and goal type can be used as input to an existing framework for composition synthesis in bounded combinatory logic via type inhabitation. The computed result is a class typed by the goal type and generated by a mixin composition applied to an existing class

Dedukti: a Logical Framework based on the λ\lambdaΠ\Pi-Calculus Modulo Theory

Dedukti is a Logical Framework based on the λ\lambdaΠ\Pi-Calculus Modulo Theory. We show that many theories can be expressed in Dedukti: constructive and classical predicate logic, Simple type theory, programming languages, Pure type systems, the Calculus of inductive constructions with universes, etc. and that permits to used it to check large libraries of proofs developed in other proof systems: Zenon, iProver, FoCaLiZe, HOL Light, and Matita
