    E-Voting Solution for Romanian Parliament

    Get PDF
Every year hundreds of millions of people vote in a variety of settings in many countries around the world. People vote in public elections to choose government leaders and also in private elections to determine the course of action for groups that people are organized in such as non-governmental organizations, unions, associations and corporations (shareholders). Voting is a widely spread, rather democratic, way of making decisions. More and more governments and private organizations realize that the use of new technologies such as the Internet can have beneficial impacts on elections - i.e. higher voter turnout and lower costs of conducting elections. The rules governing elections tend to be highly specialized to meet the specific needs of each type of organization. Most elections, however, require integrity, privacy and authentication.e-voting, elections, democracy, ngo, unions, government

New advances in aircraft MRO services: data mining enhancement

    Get PDF
Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) agencies rely largely on row-data based quotation systems to select the best suppliers for the customers (airlines). The data quantity and quality becomes a key issue to determining the success of an MRO job, since we need to ensure we achieve cost and quality benchmarks. This paper introduces a data mining approach to create an MRO quotation system that enhances the data quantity and data quality, and enables significantly more precise MRO job quotations. Regular Expression was utilized to analyse descriptive textual feedback (i.e. engineerā€™s reports) in order to extract more referable highly normalised data for job quotation. A text mining based key influencer analysis function enables the user to proactively select sub-parts, defects and possible solutions to make queries more accurate. Implementation results show that system data would improve cost quotation in 40% of MRO jobs, would reduce service cost without causing a drop in service quality

RESEARCH REPORT ON THE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY

This Report attempts to examine how an institution like the NDA, which was established to meet the short-term needs of NGOs in development and the long-term need to promote partnership between government and these organisations, is assisting in creating favourable conditions for the sustainability of the non-profit sector and to what extent the legislative framework appears to have enabled or hindered the NDA in the execution of its mandate

Exploring Capability-based security in software design with Rust

Access control is one of the most critical aspects of software engineering when designing secure software. In 2021, the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP)foundation_owasp_nodate released a new Top10 several years after its last release in 2017. Broken Access Control made a significant jump to the top of the list, marking it as the most prone and vital security aspect of software development. Previous research shows that security challenges, such as Confused Deputy, can be solved with a capability-based approach. To achieve a capability-based system for REepresentational State Transfer (RESTful) Application Programming Interfaces(APIs), we use the Rust programming language to explore how we can create a capability design pattern. We want to create a library for the developer to harness the power of capabilities when writing the code, adhering to the capability properties and Principles of Least Privilege (PoLP), and creating a RESTful API. We created a capability library we used to implement a RESTful API, simple-api, connecting it with Grant Negotiation and Authorization Protocol (GNAP) into a proof-of-concept capability-based system published on GitHub. Resulting in successfully creating capability-based access control for RESTful APIs. We show a use-case where the core access control model is Capabilities and potentially mitigates confused deputies in a RESTful API software architecture.MasteroppgƄve i informatikkINF399MAMN-INFMAMN-PRO

An object-oriented model of measurement systems

    Get PDF
This paper presents a general object-oriented model for measurement systems. The limitations of the conventional function-oriented models are examined in the light of the generalized concept of measurement and its theoretical framework proposed previously by the authors. The proposed model identifies five classes of objects, i.e., measured object, measuring instrument, reference standard, human observer, and operating environment. Each is characterized by its own attributes and operations or functions at three levels, i.e., internal, operational, and environmental. The interactions between them are also modeled, including the coupling between the measured object and the measuring instrument, the human-instrument interface, the calibration, and the interference. It serves as both a modeling framework and a practical tool for description, analysis and design, and, in particular, for computer-aided analysis and design of a measuring system. It will find applications in instrumentation engineering and measurement research and education

Media Coverage of Law Enforcement Use of Force and Disability

    Get PDF
Disability intersects with other factors such as race, class, gender, and sexuality, to magnify degrees of marginalization and increase the risk of violence. When the media ignores or mishandles a major factor, as we contend they generally do with disability, it becomes harder to effect change. This white paper focuses on the three years of media coverage of police violence and disability since the death of a young man with Down syndrome, named Ethan Saylor, in January 2013. After reviewing media coverage of eight selected cases of police violence against individuals with disabilities, the paper reveals the following patterns in the overall data:? Disability goes unmentioned or is listed as an attribute without context.? An impairment is used to evoke pity or sympathy for the victim.? A medical condition or "mental illness" is used to blame victims for their deaths.? In rare instances, we have identified thoughtful examinations of disability from within its social context that reveal the intersecting forces that lead to dangerous use-of-force incidents. Such stories point the way to better models for policing in the future. We conclude by proposing best practices for reporting on disability and police violence
