    Technology and Technometrics approachesne

    Get PDF
The technological innovation, nowadays, is one of the most important determinant for increasing the wealth of the nations. Souder and Shrivastrava said “we can’t begin to make decisions about technology until we understand it. And we can’t begin to really understand it until we can measure it”. For this reason within the economics a new branch called Technometrics is born: it is a new theoretical framework for the conception and measurement of technological change with important policy implications (Sahal, 1985). The aim of this paper is, after introducing the concepts of technological innovation as used by the economists during the nineteenth and twentieth-century, to show the historical evolution of the several approaches used to measure and evaluate the technology and technology change from 1930 to 2004. A discussion of these approaches shows the methodological difficulties and their potentials.Technometrics, Technology, Technological Change, Patterns of technological innovation, history of economic thought, systemic approach, innovation diffusion

The Dualistic Model of European Agriculture - a Theoretical Framework for the Endogenous Development

    Get PDF
The European model of agriculture refers to a multifunctional and virtuous model of agriculture that is progressively substituting the productivist model of agriculture, that, in the recent past, has been supported by agricultural community policies. However, the European model of agriculture comprises heterogeneous realities and economic actors characterised by different local conducts. Schematizing this model, we can distinguish two agriculture typologies: modernised agriculture and traditional agriculture. In this article, we will develop a theoretical framework which encompasses the different patterns of endogenous development in both agriculture typologies. Through this article, we aim to create the theoretical basis necessary to undertake the study of the dualistic model of European agriculture.endogenous rural development, european model of agriculture, traditional agriculture, modern agriculture, multifunctionality

The article attempts a critical comparison with Totaro’s arguments, of which ap preciates the high level of philosophy. It covers three main points: the concept ion of the unconditioned, the relation of the finite with the absolute and the p erspectivism of truth. Very convincing are the defense of the ontological approa ch and the attempt to found ethics on the ontology. Just the close relationship between ethics and ontology should orient toward the affirmation of freedom as t he original principle. Finally, it seeks to show that the perspectivism of truth is better es-tablished in a hermeneutics that does not dissolve the truth but th ink it as inexhaustible

Protecting free market entry as a cornerstone of competition policy

In this work an attempt has been made to substantiate a strong critical position towards the traditional way of planning and implementing competition policy in the majority of advanced economies, in consideration of the crucial role that such a policy can play in promoting international competitiveness of national firms and production system. Properly planning and implementing competition policy is, in fact, the first necessary step that should be undertaken in order to consent national firms to work in a milieu which is actually competitive and able to adequately stimulate their productive efficiency (internal and dynamic) and, as a consequence, to increase their competitiveness in the international markets. In particular, this work intends to show how a competition policy– aiming at actually promoting and protecting in a correct and effective way its beneficial effects in a market economy in its real meaning, that is as a dynamic process of rivalry among firms generating innovations and acting in a continually changing, and thus uncertain, context– should have as its cornerstone the safeguard of their freedom to enter (and go out of) the market, rather than to be based, as traditionally occurs, on parameters such as their dimension and number. An adequate support and acknowledgement to this thesis has not only been searched in the modern competition theory, but also in the antitrust practice, with regard both to the real-world design and implementation of competition policy by some specific countries (Germany) and to the measures adopted by the antitrust authorities in order to solve specific antitrust cases, national or not, (Aprilia – Piaggio case, Heineken – Birra Moretti case, Microsoft case, etc.).
