    A new method for solving linear multi-objective transportation problems with fuzzy parameters

    AbstractThere are several methods in the literature for solving transportation problems by representing the parameters as normal fuzzy numbers. Chiang [J. Chiang, The optimal solution of the transportation problem with fuzzy demand and fuzzy product, J. Inform. Sci. Eng. 21 (2005) 439–451] pointed out that it is better to represent the parameters as (λ,ρ) interval-valued fuzzy numbers instead of normal fuzzy numbers and proposed a method to find the optimal solution of single objective transportation problems by representing the availability and demand as (λ,ρ) interval-valued fuzzy numbers. In this paper, the shortcomings of the existing method are pointed out and to overcome these shortcomings, a new method is proposed to find solution of a linear multi-objective transportation problem by representing all the parameters as (λ,ρ) interval-valued fuzzy numbers. To illustrate the proposed method a numerical example is solved. The advantages of the proposed method over existing method are also discussed

    On Solving Fixed Charge Transportation Problems Having Interval Valued Parameters

    In this article, we propose a new method for solving the interval fixed charge transportation problem (IFCTP), wherein the parameters (associated cost, fixed cost, supply, and demand) are represented by interval numbers. First, an equivalent bi-objective fixed charge transportation problem (FCTP) is derived from the given IFCTP, and then the equivalent crisp problem is solved using a fuzzy programming technique. To demonstrate the solution procedure, two existing numerical examples (Safi and Razmjoo {\cite{bakp1}}) are coded and solved in LINGO 19.0. We establish the effectiveness of our proposed method through a comparison of the results achieved with those of two pre-existing methods

    In this paper, a simple approach is proposed to obtain the best compromise solution of linear multiobjective transportation problem (MOTP). Using this approach, we get unique efficient solution. Because unique efficient extreme point obtained by proposed approach directly leads to compromise solution, which is preferred by decision maker. Also this approach is simple to use and less time consuming. For the application of proposed approach, numerical examples are considered from existing literature and are solved with proposed method

    Bicriterion a priori route choice in stochastic time-dependent networks.

    In recent years there has been a growing interest in using stochastic time-dependent (STD) networks as a modelling tool for a number of applications within such areas as transportation and telecommunications. It is known that an optimal routing policy does not necessarily correspond to a path, but rather to a time-adaptive strategy. In some applications, however, it makes good sense to require that the routing policy corresponds to a loopless path in the network, that is, the time-adaptive aspect disappears and a priori route choice is considered. In this paper we consider bicriterion a priori route choice in STD networks, i.e. the problem of finding the set of efficient paths. Both expectation and min-max criteria are considered and a solution method based on the two-phase approach is devised. Experimental results reveal that the full set of efficient solutions can be determined on rather large test instances, which is in contrast to previously reported results for the time-adaptive caseStochastic time-dependent networks; Bicriterion shortest path; A priori route choice; Two-phase method

    Transshipment Problem and Its Variants: A Review

    The transshipment problem is a unique Linear Programming Problem (LLP) in that it considers the assumption that all sources and sinks can both receive and distribute shipments at the same time (function in both directions). Being an extension of the classical transportation problem, the transshipment problem covers a wide range of scenarios for logistics and/or transportation inputs and products and offers optimum alternatives for same. In this work the review of literatures from the origin and current trends on the transshipment problem were carried out. This was done in view of the unique managerial needs and formulation of models/objective functions. It was revealed that the LLP offers a wide range of decision alternative for the operations manager based on the dynamic and challenging nature of logistics management.     Bus timetable optimization model in response to the diverse and uncertain requirements of passengers for travel comfort

    Most existing public transit systems have a fixed dispatching and service mode, which cannot effectively allocate resources from the perspective of the interests of all participants, resulting in resource waste and dissatisfaction. Low passenger satisfaction leads to a considerable loss of bus passengers and further reduces the income of bus operators. This study develops an optimization model for bus schedules that considers vehicle types and offers two service levels based on heterogeneous passenger demands. In this process, passenger satisfaction, bus company income, and government subsidies are considered. A bilevel model is proposed with a lower-level passenger ride simulation model and an upper-level multiobjective optimization model to maximize the interests of bus companies, passengers, and the government. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, a real-world case from Guangzhou is presented and analyzed using the nondominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II), and the related Pareto front is obtained.
