Combining Expression and Content in Domains for Dialog Managers
We present work in progress on abstracting dialog managers from their domain
in order to implement a dialog manager development tool which takes (among
other data) a domain description as input and delivers a new dialog manager for
the described domain as output. Thereby we will focus on two topics; firstly,
the construction of domain descriptions with description logics and secondly,

Interactive analysis of high-dimensional association structures with graphical models
Graphical chain models are a capable tool for analyzing multivariate data. However, their practical use may still be cumbersome in some respect since fitting the model requires the application of an intensive selection strategy based on the calculation of an enormous number of different regressions. In this paper, we present a computer system especially designed for the calculation of graphical chain models which is not only planned to automatically carry out the model search but also to visualize the corresponding graph at each stage of the model fit on request by the user. It additionally allows to modify the graph and the model fit interactively
Not All Dialogues are Created Equal: Instance Weighting for Neural Conversational Models
Neural conversational models require substantial amounts of dialogue data for
their parameter estimation and are therefore usually learned on large corpora
such as chat forums or movie subtitles. These corpora are, however, often
challenging to work with, notably due to their frequent lack of turn
segmentation and the presence of multiple references external to the dialogue
itself. This paper shows that these challenges can be mitigated by adding a
weighting model into the architecture. The weighting model, which is itself
estimated from dialogue data, associates each training example to a numerical
weight that reflects its intrinsic quality for dialogue modelling. At training
time, these sample weights are included into the empirical loss to be
minimised. Evaluation results on retrieval-based models trained on movie and TV
subtitles demonstrate that the inclusion of such a weighting model improves the

Modelling Users, Intentions, and Structure in Spoken Dialog
We outline how utterances in dialogs can be interpreted using a partial first
order logic. We exploit the capability of this logic to talk about the truth
status of formulae to define a notion of coherence between utterances and
explain how this coherence relation can serve for the construction of AND/OR
trees that represent the segmentation of the dialog. In a BDI model we
formalize basic assumptions about dialog and cooperative behaviour of
participants. These assumptions provide a basis for inferring speech acts from
coherence relations between utterances and attitudes of dialog participants.
Speech acts prove to be useful for determining dialog segments defined on the
notion of completing expectations of dialog participants. Finally, we sketch
how explicit segmentation signalled by cue phrases and performatives is covered

Learning Intelligent Dialogs for Bounding Box Annotation
We introduce Intelligent Annotation Dialogs for bounding box annotation. We
train an agent to automatically choose a sequence of actions for a human
annotator to produce a bounding box in a minimal amount of time. Specifically,
we consider two actions: box verification, where the annotator verifies a box
generated by an object detector, and manual box drawing. We explore two kinds
of agents, one based on predicting the probability that a box will be
positively verified, and the other based on reinforcement learning. We
demonstrate that (1) our agents are able to learn efficient annotation
strategies in several scenarios, automatically adapting to the image
difficulty, the desired quality of the boxes, and the detector strength; (2) in
all scenarios the resulting annotation dialogs speed up annotation compared to
manual box drawing alone and box verification alone, while also outperforming
any fixed combination of verification and drawing in most scenarios; (3) in a
realistic scenario where the detector is iteratively re-trained, our agents
evolve a series of strategies that reflect the shifting trade-off between
verification and drawing as the detector grows stronger.Comment: This paper appeared at CVPR 201
