    Teletraffic Modeling of Cdma Systems

    This paper presents teletraffic modeling of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems that enabled the analysis of such systems capacity. Analytical tools aided by software model that assisted in analysis of the system performance, capacity estimation, dimensioning and design of CDMA networks were achieved. This work, therefore, focused on modeling telephone traffic for analysis of CDMA cellular network capacity. We developed an analytical expression for blocking probability and consequently that for the determination and analysis of the capacity of CDMA networks. The analyses of obtained results showed how interference determined the capacity of CDMA networks and therefore proved that the capacity was not hard limited, but depended on predetermined quality of service for the network. Also, the result showed how the capacity of the network, in terms of number of subscribers, can be estimated for CDMA networks. Graphical results generated from the blocking model showed the effect of variations in interference parameters on CDMA capacity. The Erlang capacity from the model was adapted into Erlang B formula to estimate capacity in terms of channels, and the number of subscribers a typical CDMA sector could accommodate

    A programmable architecture for the provision of hybrid services

    The success of new service provision platforms will largely depend on their ability to blend with existing technologies. The advent of Internet telephony, although impressive, is unlikely to make telephone customers suddenly turn in favor of computers. Rather, customers display increasing interest in services that span multiple networks (especially Internet Protocol-based networks and the telephone and cellular networks) and open new vistas. We refer to these services as hybrid services and propose an architecture for their provision. This architecture allows for programming the service platform elements (i.e., network nodes, gateways, control servers, and terminals) in order to include new service logics. We identify components that can be assembled to build these logics by considering a service as a composition of features such as address translation, security, call control, connectivity, charging and user interaction. Generic service components are derived from the modeling of these features. We assure that our proposal can be implemented even in existing systems in return for slight changes: These systems are required to generate an event when a special service is encountered. The treatment of this event is handled by an object at a Java Service Layer. Java has been chosen for its platform-neutrality feature and its embedded security mechanisms. Using our architecture, we design a hybrid closed user group service

    The Contributory Effect of Latency on the Quality of Voice Transmitted over the Internet

    Deployment of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is rapidly growing worldwide due to the new services it provides and cost savings derived from using a converged IP network. However, voice quality is affected by bandwidth, delay, latency, jitter, packet loss e.t.c. Latency is the dominant factor that degrades quality of voice transfer. There is therefore strong need for a study on the effect of Latency with the view to improving Quality of Voice (QoV) in VoIP network. In this work, Poisson probability theorem, Markov Chain, Probability distribution theorems and Network performance metric were used to study the effect of latency on QoS in VoIP network. This is achieved by considering the effect of latency resulting from several components between two points in multiple networks. The NetQoS Latency Calculator, Net-Cracker Professional® for Modeling and Matlab/Simulink® for simulating network were tools used and the results obtained compare favourably well with theoretical facts

    Analysis of telephone network traffic based on a complex user network

    The traffic in telephone networks is analyzed in this paper. Unlike the classical traffic analysis where call blockings are due to the limited channel capacity, we consider here a more realistic cause for call blockings which is due to the way in which users are networked in a real-life human society. Furthermore, two kinds of user network, namely, the fully-connected user network and the scale-free network, are employed to model the way in which telephone users are connected. We show that the blocking probability is generally higher in the case of the scale-free user network, and that the carried traffic intensity is practically limited not only by the network capacity but also by the property of the user network.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures, accepted for Physica
