Innovation as Evolution
Cellular phone is one of the most developing technological artifacts today. The evolution occurs through random innovation. Our effort is trying to view the evolution of this artifact from memetic’s point of view. By constructing a phylomemetic tree based on cellular phone memes to infer or estimate the evolutionary history and relationship among cellular phone. We adopt several methods, which are commonly used in constructing phylogenetic tree, they are UPGMA algorithm and Parsimony Maximum algorithm to construct cellphone phylomemetic tree. Therefore we compare with the innovation tree, which is based on serial number and their appearance time. From phylomemetic tree, we then analyze the process of a cellular phone innovation through looking out on the cellular phone type lies in the same cluster. The comparison of the simulation tree result shows a generally different branching pattern, giving a presumption that innovation in cellular phone is not really relating with their serial number, but occurs merely because of random mutation of allomeme design and competes with its technological development

Multi-Level Modeling of Quotation Families Morphogenesis
This paper investigates cultural dynamics in social media by examining the
proliferation and diversification of clearly-cut pieces of content: quoted
texts. In line with the pioneering work of Leskovec et al. and Simmons et al.
on memes dynamics we investigate in deep the transformations that quotations
published online undergo during their diffusion. We deliberately put aside the
structure of the social network as well as the dynamical patterns pertaining to
the diffusion process to focus on the way quotations are changed, how often
they are modified and how these changes shape more or less diverse families and
sub-families of quotations. Following a biological metaphor, we try to
understand in which way mutations can transform quotations at different scales

Automated Generation of Cross-Domain Analogies via Evolutionary Computation
Analogy plays an important role in creativity, and is extensively used in
science as well as art. In this paper we introduce a technique for the
automated generation of cross-domain analogies based on a novel evolutionary
algorithm (EA). Unlike existing work in computational analogy-making restricted
to creating analogies between two given cases, our approach, for a given case,
is capable of creating an analogy along with the novel analogous case itself.
Our algorithm is based on the concept of "memes", which are units of culture,
or knowledge, undergoing variation and selection under a fitness measure, and
represents evolving pieces of knowledge as semantic networks. Using a fitness
function based on Gentner's structure mapping theory of analogies, we
demonstrate the feasibility of spontaneously generating semantic networks that

There is considerable scope for developing a more explicit role for ethnography within the research program proposed in the article. Ethnographic studies of cultural micro-evolution would complement experimental approaches by providing insights into the “natural” settings in which cultural behaviours occur. Ethnography can also contribute to the study of cultural macro-evolution by shedding light on the conditions that generate and maintain cultural lineages

This paper proposes the notion of Nodalism as a means describing contemporary culture and of understanding my own creative practice in electronic music composition.
