New Version of the AGRIS Web Portal – Overcoming the Digital Divide by Providing Rural Areas with Relevant Information

    Get PDF
The present paper brings the outcomes of the second stage of a complex AGRIS web portal upgrade (technological, functional, content and design upgrade) called Agris 5.0. The Agris 5.0 version is recently being tested and will be launched in January 2012 on http://www.agris.cz. Agris 5.0 is built and runs on Microsoft technologies (MS Windows Server 2008, MS IIS 7 web server, MS SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition, SP2) using the Model-View-Controller (MVC) SW architectural pattern version 3, .NET framework 4, programming language C#, Razor template system, XML and XHTML 1.1 markup languages, CSS 2.1 styles and JavaScript encoding with the jQuery framework. From the user point of view, the Agris portal usability and availability meeting international standards were the utmost priority of the present upgrade.Agris, portal, MVC, digital divide, agrarian sector, rural areas, information resource., Agribusiness, Resource /Energy Economics and Policy, GA, IN,

Extending the MVC Design Pattern towards a Task-Oriented Development Approach for Pervasive Computing Applications

This paper addresses the implementation of pervasive Java Web applications using a development approach that is based on the Model-View- Controller (MVC) design pattern. We combine the MVC methodology with a hierarchical task-based state transition model in order to achieve the distinction between the task state and the view state of an application. More precisely, we propose to add a device-independent TaskStateBean and a device-specific ViewStateBean for each task state as an extension to the J2EE Service to Worker design pattern. Furthermore, we suggest representing the task state and view state transition models as finite state automata in two sets of XML files

A service-oriented cloud modeling method and process

    Get PDF
The transition of software development from web to cloud has been accelerated. The development of cloud services requires a modeling method that reflects the characteristics of cloud including personalized service, resource sharing service, grouped and distributed services, and cross-platform operability. This study aimed to suggest a method of developing UML-based cloud services suitable for the characteristics of cloud services. A cloud service metamodel was defined using cloud applications’ characteristic modeling elements, and after that, how these cloud modeling elements are expressed into UML modeling elements was defined with an integrated metamodel between cloud and UML. By applying this hierarchical cloud metamodel, an MDA and MVC-based service-oriented cloud modeling process was established. By doing so, it will be possible to easily design services (applications) and solutions that are suitable for cloud computing environments, and in particular, to create hierarchical reuse models by the level of the abstraction of model-driven development

A pattern recognition system for the automation of learning organisation – Learning Organisation Information System (LOIS)

This thesis is about finding a solution to achieve the automation of the Learning Organisation Information System code, named LOIS, where large companies will be able to instigate a culture of team learning based on the analysis of the events that occur in their respective businesses. They will be able to categorise data and formulate measures that can be implemented to reinforce and adapt their business models to accommodate changes. Nevertheless, this can only work if the automation offers non-intrusiveness, ease of use and adaptability for the big companies. The main idea behind implementing LOIS is to provide a platform for employees to express their concerns and predict the number of leavers whereby Organization Management can formulate measures to retain those employees. The solution involves two algorithms; firstly K-means algorithm that is used to cluster data and secondly Time Series Prediction that is used in conjunction to make prediction on those clustered data. It explains how K-means algorithm runs through all the data until a ‘no points change’ cluster membership is reached and how Time Series Prediction is used to clustered data to predict by initially normalizing the set of data and then by fluctuating the number nodes (layers). The main idea of implementing Time Series Prediction into the system is to predict the number of employees that will potentially leave the organization over a certain period. An architectural framework has been incorporated within this thesis that has then been built based on a Case study that has been designed specifically to implement the framework whereby results are generated to be analysed, reviewed and formulate measures. The thesis explains in detail all the different components of the framework, the Process Flow, the Deployment Architecture while concluding with an Organisational Framework Process Flow. Furthermore, it explains and shows the different graphical user interface that the system has to offer to employees in order to help their day to day life within a company. The thesis concludes by comparing a huge amount of historical and actual data into the system to know if there are any improvement in the processes

Development of Web Based Application for Supply Chain Management

As a firm staying competitive in the market is never easy. It faces a lot competition from each and every competitor. The firms have to always come up with a better strategy to satisfy their customers, incorporate latest technologies to provide better service to their customers. The web based application for the supply chain management is a solution that supports collaboration in Supply Chain as the foundation for gaining competitive advantage and maintain market share. There are some other ways to obtain the collaboration but this is a better solution. There are several technologies that are needed for the design and implementation of this web application, some of the include technologies like Java, HTML, CSS, Java Script, Angular JS, Angular Schema form. There is a high level integration needed to bring this on to a single track and make this work. This web application has used the up to date technologies so this way the application can be the most sophisticated one on the market. This application uses technologies that are completely open source and involves a lot less capital than other tools out there in the world. This way the firm whoever uses this technology will be able to see a growth in the productivity, higher profits and the most important thing would be to make the customers happier. With some minor changes to the application it shall be able to make it available to other companies as well. This report describes the technologies used and how are they integrated, if this application was really able to manage the supply chain management in the company. This section gives an overview about the design of the application, the forecasting of the demand. The results showed an improvement in the manufacturing process of the company, reduction in the transportation costs
