Adaptive Inter-Organizational Workflow Management for E-Business Integration
As the collaboration between companies is facilitated in e-business environment, inter-organizational workflow management becomes an important issue. Because the inter-organizational workflow consists of autonomous organizational workflow, the coordination of these autonomous processes is required. In this paper, a local viewed inter-organizational workflow model is proposed, in which an inter-organizational workflow is defined as a set of block activities. Exception handling rules for internal process are defined with pertinent block activities. Based on the suggested model, a multi-agent system and a coordination algorithm are proposed. For the illustration of the suggested model, an example interorganizational workflow about book order process is presented

GRIDCC: Real-time workflow system
The Grid is a concept which allows the sharing of resources between distributed communities, allowing each to progress towards potentially different goals. As adoption of the Grid increases so are the activities that people wish to conduct through it. The GRIDCC project is a European Union funded project addressing the issues of integrating instruments into the Grid. This increases the requirement of workflows and Quality of Service upon these workflows as many of these instruments have real-time requirements. In this paper we present the workflow management service within the GRIDCC project which is tasked with optimising the workflows and ensuring that they meet the pre-defined QoS requirements specified upon them
Knowledge-Intensive Processes: Characteristics, Requirements and Analysis of Contemporary Approaches
Engineering of knowledge-intensive processes (KiPs) is far from being mastered, since they are genuinely knowledge- and data-centric, and require substantial flexibility, at both design- and run-time. In this work, starting from a scientific literature analysis in the area of KiPs and from three real-world domains and application scenarios, we provide a precise characterization of KiPs. Furthermore, we devise some general requirements related to KiPs management and execution. Such requirements contribute to the definition of an evaluation framework to assess current system support for KiPs. To this end, we present a critical analysis on a number of existing process-oriented approaches by discussing their efficacy against the requirements
Using the Business Process Execution Language for Managing Scientific Processes
This paper describes the use of the Business Process Execution Language for Web Services
(BPEL4WS/BPEL) for managing scientific workflows. This work is result of our attempt to adopt Service Oriented
Architecture in order to perform Web services – based simulation of metal vapor lasers. Scientific workflows can
be more demanding in their requirements than business processes. In the context of addressing these
requirements, the features of the BPEL4WS specification are discussed, which is widely regarded as the de-facto
standard for orchestrating Web services for business workflows. A typical use case of calculation the electric field
potential and intensity distributions is discussed as an example of building a BPEL process to perform distributed
simulation constructed by loosely-coupled services

Authorization and access control of application data in Workflow systems
Workflow Management Systems (WfMSs) are used to support the modeling and coordinated execution of business processes within an organization or across organizational boundaries. Although some research efforts have addressed requirements for authorization and access control for workflow systems, little attention has been paid to the requirements as they apply to application data accessed or managed by WfMSs. In this paper, we discuss key access control requirements for application data in workflow applications using examples from the healthcare domain, introduce a classification of application data used in workflow systems by analyzing their sources, and then propose a comprehensive data authorization and access control mechanism for WfMSs. This involves four aspects: role, task, process instance-based user group, and data content. For implementation, a predicate-based access control method is used. We believe that the proposed model is applicable to workflow applications and WfMSs with diverse access control requirements
