DE-GENDERING GESTATION: THE FINAL IMPETUS FOR DECRIMINALISING ABORTION

This thesis considers the development of two assisted gestative technologies, artificial wombs and uterine transplants, and their potential impact on abortion regulation. In light of the recent increase in abortion prosecutions in 2023, an inquiry into how abortion law could be reformed is beneficial. It is presented throughout this thesis that arguments for reform, specifically decriminalisation, could be bolstered by the advent of artificial wombs and uterine transplants. This thesis explores how artificial wombs and uterine transplants will alter the gestational process. It presents the practical impact of gestation no longer being attached to assigned biological sex and considers how this may inform social perceptions of gestation as a gendered process. Ultimately, it suggests that artificial wombs and uterine transplants have the capacity to detach gestation in practice from those assigned female at birth, and in social consciousness from women. After acknowledging the impact of sex and gender norms on existing legal structures, this thesis goes on to explore the extent to which gestation detached from sex and gender may impact on abortion regulation. It considers not only pre-existing arguments for reform, but also presents that artificial wombs and uterine transplants, by detaching gestation from sex and gender, may bolster calls for the decriminalisation of abortion in England and Wales. Ultimately, this thesis finds that artificial wombs and uterine transplants will impact on the gestative sphere in a manner that renders current abortion regulation inadequate. Reform is necessary, and this thesis presents how the advent of novel assisted gestative technologies may support calls for decriminalisation

La fabrique méconnue de la stratégie dans le contexte de la PME internationale.

Ce cahier de recherche présente une étude exploratoire sur le thème de la « fabrique » de la stratégie dans le contexte de la PMI internationale. Dans le cadre du management stratégique, la « fabrique de la stratégie » (strategy as practices or strategizing en anglais) est une nouvelle façon d’aborder l’étude de la stratégie en s’intéressant à la manière dont les pratiques ordinaires des membres d’une organisation contribuent à « fabriquer » au quotidien les variables stratégiques comme les métiers, la position concurrentielle, les alliances, etc. Dans le cadre de ce mouvement, il existe peu de travaux centrés sur l’analyse de la « vraie « PME. Il a donc été entrepris une étude de terrain de deux PMI internationales, d’une part afin d’expérimenter l’intérêt de l’école de la fabrique pour l’étude de la PME et, d’autre part afin d’essayer de dégager les pratiques qui oeuvrent à la performance et au développement de deux PMI internationales. Les deux monographies présentées montrent que la stratégie, dans les PMI observées, est quelque chose d’éminemment ordinaire ou quotidien et que la distinction entre actions stratégiques et opérationnelles est peu pertinente. Il ressort aussi que les acteurs qui font la stratégie de ces deux PMI peuvent être classés en trois mondes qui sont reliés par six dynamiques. Postural control at different anatomical levels: dependence upon sport practice

Control of equilibrium in upright posture is a multifactorial phenomenon influenced by the sensory modalities involved or by the characteristics of the environment. Or of the subjects. We have to specify how the practice of sports, especial1y judo or dance, could influence the role of the sensory information and t he postural strategies used. Practicers of Judo and dancers need to tram to control their equilibrium, in order for the judoka to maintain their own standing position while attempting to throw their opponents to the ground, or for the dancers to make the movements of the desired shape. Is this experience and skill generalized to the control of static equilibrium and which sensory aspects are trained the most (Crbmieux, Mesure, 1990, 1992), and does it change the postural strategies of the subjects? To answer these questions, an experiment was carried out with 60 young healthy adults: 2 groups of novice men and women, one group of men and one of women expert in Judo (black belt) and one group of women expert in classic dance ( 5years of practice). The subjects were tested in a sharpened Romberg position on either a hard or a soft surface within a vertical cylinder with vertical black and white stripes. Three type of illumination were used: normal or 2 Hz stroboscopic light, and darkness. Accelerometers were used to measure the subject's lateral (head and hips) or antero-posterior (ankles) body sway. A frequency power spectrum analysis shows a better static control in the expert men and women than in the beginners; but this improvement is not due to an aspecific increase in the use of visual, vestibular or proprioceptive cues for the three expert groups; rather it depends on the sport and sex of the subjects. They did not choose the same information for their own control. A study of the correlations between performances at the different anatomical levels show that the relation between motion of the different body levels are not the same for the five groups. To study the effect of sex and sport on this relative movements, we use .a new statistical determination of postural strategies (Amblard et al., 1992a. b) between two anatomical levels, by mean of a method based on the crosscorrelation functions between two simultaneous time series of accelerometric measurements. MESURE Tool to benchmark Java Card platforms

Mesure de température par pyrométrie 2D à bande spectrale et pyrométrie spectrale de métaux chauffés par laser dans un environnement fortement oxydant

La calibration et la validation de deux techniques de mesure de température complémentaires basées toutes les deux sur la pyrométrie optique (pyrométrie 2D monobande et pyrométrie spectrale), utilisables dans le cadre de l'étude des métaux chauffés dans des conditions hautement oxydantes et plus généralement au cours des procédés laser sur des métaux dans la gamme de température 2000-4000 K ont été réalisées. Une bonne correspondance des résultats des deux méthodes est obtenue lorsque l'émissivité de l'objet est connue et varie peu, mais seule la pyrométrie spectrale est performante lors de grandes variations d'émissivité, fournissant à la fois une mesure de température et d'émissivité au cours du procédé. Les incertitudes ont été calculées et représentent respectivement 6 et 3% dans une gamme de 1800 à 4500 K pour la pyrométrie 2D et la pyrométrie spectrale
