A General -Oscillator Algebra
It is well-known that the Macfarlane-Biedenharn -oscillator and its
generalization has no Hopf structure, whereas the Hong Yan -oscillator can
be endowed with a Hopf structure. In this letter, we demonstrate that it is
possible to construct a general -oscillator algebra which includes the
Macfarlane-Biedenharn oscillator algebra and the Hong Yan oscillator algebra as
special cases.Comment: Needs subeqnarray.sty and epsf.sty (contains 2 figures
Assessment Sensitivity about Future Contingents, Vindication and Self-Refutation
John MacFarlane has recently argued that his brand of truth relativism –
Assessment Sensitivity – provides the best solution to the puzzle of future
contingents: statements about the future that are metaphysically neither
necessary nor impossible. In this paper, we show that even if we grant all of
the metaphysical, semantic and pragmatic assumptions in terms of which
MacFarlane sets and solves the puzzle, Assessment Sensitivity is ultimately
self-refutin

Braided Oscillators
The braided Hopf algebra structure of the generalized oscillator is
investigated. Using the solutions two types of braided Fibonacci oscillators
are introduced. This leads to two types of braided Biedenharn-Macfarlane
oscillators.Comment: 12 pages, latex, some references added, published versio
On the construction of generalized Grassmann representatives of state vectors
Generalized -graded Grassmann variables are used to label coherent
states related to the nilpotent representation of the q-oscillator of
Biedenharn and Macfarlane when the deformation parameter is a root of unity.
These states are then used to construct generalized Grassmann representatives
of state vectors.Comment: 8 page

Bad science concerning NHS competition is being used to support the controversial Health and Social Care Bill
A recent report by LSE academics extolling the benefits of competition between NHS hospitals claims causality where there is none. Allyson Pollock, Alison Macfarlane and Ian Greener argue that the authors engage in data dredging and faulty empirical analysis. In so doing, they sweep aside decades of evidence showing why markets do not work in health services and lend support to an HSC Bill that is inherently dangerous
