Satisfiability Games for Branching-Time Logics
The satisfiability problem for branching-time temporal logics like CTL*, CTL
and CTL+ has important applications in program specification and verification.
Their computational complexities are known: CTL* and CTL+ are complete for
doubly exponential time, CTL is complete for single exponential time. Some
decision procedures for these logics are known; they use tree automata,
tableaux or axiom systems. In this paper we present a uniform game-theoretic
framework for the satisfiability problem of these branching-time temporal
logics. We define satisfiability games for the full branching-time temporal
logic CTL* using a high-level definition of winning condition that captures the
essence of well-foundedness of least fixpoint unfoldings. These winning
conditions form formal languages of \omega-words. We analyse which kinds of
deterministic {\omega}-automata are needed in which case in order to recognise
these languages. We then obtain a reduction to the problem of solving parity or
B\"uchi games. The worst-case complexity of the obtained algorithms matches the
known lower bounds for these logics. This approach provides a uniform, yet
complexity-theoretically optimal treatment of satisfiability for branching-time
temporal logics. It separates the use of temporal logic machinery from the use
of automata thus preserving a syntactical relationship between the input
formula and the object that represents satisfiability, i.e. a winning strategy
in a parity or B\"uchi game. The games presented here work on a Fischer-Ladner
closure of the input formula only. Last but not least, the games presented here
come with an attempt at providing tool support for the satisfiability problem
of complex branching-time logics like CTL* and CTL+
Interrupt Timed Automata: verification and expressiveness
We introduce the class of Interrupt Timed Automata (ITA), a subclass of
hybrid automata well suited to the description of timed multi-task systems with
interruptions in a single processor environment. While the reachability problem
is undecidable for hybrid automata we show that it is decidable for ITA. More
precisely we prove that the untimed language of an ITA is regular, by building
a finite automaton as a generalized class graph. We then establish that the
reachability problem for ITA is in NEXPTIME and in PTIME when the number of
clocks is fixed. To prove the first result, we define a subclass ITA- of ITA,
and show that (1) any ITA can be reduced to a language-equivalent automaton in
ITA- and (2) the reachability problem in this subclass is in NEXPTIME (without
any class graph). In the next step, we investigate the verification of real
time properties over ITA. We prove that model checking SCL, a fragment of a
timed linear time logic, is undecidable. On the other hand, we give model
checking procedures for two fragments of timed branching time logic. We also
compare the expressive power of classical timed automata and ITA and prove that
the corresponding families of accepted languages are incomparable. The result
also holds for languages accepted by controlled real-time automata (CRTA), that
extend timed automata. We finally combine ITA with CRTA, in a model which
encompasses both classes and show that the reachability problem is still
decidable. Additionally we show that the languages of ITA are neither closed
under complementation nor under intersection
Hybrid Branching-Time Logics
Hybrid branching-time logics are introduced as extensions of CTL-like logics
with state variables and the downarrow-binder. Following recent work in the
linear framework, only logics with a single variable are considered. The
expressive power and the complexity of satisfiability of the resulting logics
is investigated.
As main result, the satisfiability problem for the hybrid versions of several
branching-time logics is proved to be 2EXPTIME-complete. These branching-time
logics range from strict fragments of CTL to extensions of CTL that can talk
about the past and express fairness-properties. The complexity gap relative to
CTL is explained by a corresponding succinctness result.
To prove the upper bound, the automata-theoretic approach to branching-time
logics is extended to hybrid logics, showing that non-emptiness of alternating
one-pebble Buchi tree automata is 2EXPTIME-complete.Comment: An extended abstract of this paper was presented at the International

Index problems for game automata
For a given regular language of infinite trees, one can ask about the minimal
number of priorities needed to recognize this language with a
non-deterministic, alternating, or weak alternating parity automaton. These
questions are known as, respectively, the non-deterministic, alternating, and
weak Rabin-Mostowski index problems. Whether they can be answered effectively
is a long-standing open problem, solved so far only for languages recognizable
by deterministic automata (the alternating variant trivializes).
We investigate a wider class of regular languages, recognizable by so-called
game automata, which can be seen as the closure of deterministic ones under
complementation and composition. Game automata are known to recognize languages
arbitrarily high in the alternating Rabin-Mostowski index hierarchy; that is,
the alternating index problem does not trivialize any more.
Our main contribution is that all three index problems are decidable for
languages recognizable by game automata. Additionally, we show that it is
decidable whether a given regular language can be recognized by a game
automaton
Model-checking branching-time properties of probabilistic automata and probabilistic one-counter automata
This paper studies the problem of model-checking of probabilistic automaton
and probabilistic one-counter automata against probabilistic branching-time
temporal logics (PCTL and PCTL). We show that it is undecidable for these
problems.
We first show, by reducing to emptiness problem of probabilistic automata,
that the model-checking of probabilistic finite automata against branching-time
temporal logics are undecidable. And then, for each probabilistic automata, by
constructing a probabilistic one-counter automaton with the same behavior as
questioned probabilistic automata the undecidability of model-checking problems
