    The leucism is an aberration in pigmentation, resulting from a genetic abnormality and occurs in all vertebrate groups in which the fish are included. In Ecuador it has not reported such anomalies in fish. Is presented for the first time a case of partial leucism in an individual of Andean Catfish (Astroblepidae), observed in a spring located near the Lake San Pablo Canton Otavalo, Imbabura Province, Ecuador.El leucismo es una aberraci贸n en la pigmentaci贸n, producto de una anomal铆a gen茅tica y se presenta en todos los grupos de vertebrados incluyendo los peces.     Recent records of porcupines, Coendou quichua and Coendou prehensilis are reported for the department of C贸rdoba, in the Caribbean region of Colombia. These are from the southern part of the department, from remote regions and the buffer area of the Paramillo National Nature Park. The locality reported here is the seventh verified for the country. Illegal trafficking of one individual of C. prehensilis was observed and comments on its use and threats it faces on a national level are given.Se presentan registros recientes de los puercoespines Coendou quichua y Coendou prehensilis para el departamento de C贸rdoba, en la regi贸n del Caribe colombiano.     To evaluate the impacts of water flow restriction and regulation caused by the construction of a dike across Manamo Channel, variations in the benthic fish communities were studied in the mouths of three streams or channels (Pedernales, Angostura and Manamo) of the Orinoco River Delta and one stream (Venado) that flows directly into the Gulf of Paria, during one (annual) hydrological cycle. Fishes were sampled with a shrimp trawl net. Of the 78 species collected, five were resident, 12 temporary and 62 occasional. Juvenile phases of all species were collected. Species with greater IVI values were Cathorops sp., Achirus achirus, Stellifer naso and Colomesus psittacus. No significant differences were obtained for the physical and chemical habitat parameters measured: depth, salinity and transparency, nor in the water levels of the streams even in different hydro-phases of the year. Salinity never dropped to zero and no changes in fish species composition were detected. These results lead us to hypothesize that the impacts of the dike constructed in Manamo Channel also extend to other streams of the Orinoco River Delta and even the one studied (Venado) that empties into the Gulf of Paria, where estuarine conditions prevailed during the entire study period of one year, with no observed changed in the hydrological regimen.Con el objetivo de evaluar el efecto de la regulaci贸n de las aguas del ca帽o Manamo (por la construcci贸n de un dique), sobre la ictiofauna bent贸nica de algunos ca帽os del delta del r铆o Orinoco y Golfo de Paria, se estudi贸 la variaci贸n de la estructura comunitaria de peces bent贸nicos en la desembocadura de tres ca帽os del delta del r铆o Orinoco (Pedernales, Angostura y Manamo) y un ca帽o del golfo de Paria (Venado) durante un ciclo hidrol贸gico anual. De las 78 especies colectadas, cinco fueron residentes, 12 temporales y 61 ocasionales; todas registraron ejemplares en estado juvenil. Las especies con mayores valores de IVI fueron Cathorops sp., Achirus achirus, Stellifer naso y Colomesus psittacus. No se observaron diferencias significativas entre los par谩metros f铆sico-qu铆micos analizados (profundidad, salinidad y transparencia), ni a nivel de ca帽os, ni entre hidrofases. La salinidad nunca registr贸 valores menores de 4 % y no se observaron cambios en la composici贸n de especies de la comunidad. Con los resultados obtenidos se plantea la hip贸tesis de que la construcci贸n del dique sobre el ca帽o Manamo en los a帽os 60, afect贸 el comportamiento natural de este sistema y de otros ca帽os del delta e incluso del golfo de Paria (ca帽o Venado), registrando en las desembocaduras de todos los ca帽os caracter铆sticas de un estuario continuo (sin cambios en el r茅gimen hidrol贸gico y salinidad) durante todo el a帽o

    The ecological restoration of cacao plantations represents a chance for combining agriculture with biodiversity conservation. However, the success of a restoration project must be evaluated by a monitoring program. Involving the community in these programs promotes the environmental awareness of society and its active participation in the resolution of environmental problems, and it might promote the long-term monitoring. As a part of an ecological restoration project in cacao farms of M茅rida state (Venezuela) aimed to increase the biodiversity, an experimental activity with students aged 9-12 was done to evaluate the changes in biodiversity that may be incorporated to a monitoring program of ecological restoration. Eight species of easily recognizable parasitoid Hymenoptera were selected as indicator group. The students participated on traps assembly, on collecting material and on identification of indicator species. The experience obtained from this project gave some advices for the implementation of a monitoring protocol of ecological restoration with participation of rural primary schools.La restauraci贸n ecol贸gica asociada a fincas de cacao se presenta como una oportunidad para compaginar la agricultura y la conservaci贸n de la biodiversidad, pero un buen proyecto de restauraci贸n debe llevar incluido un programa de monitoreo. Involucrar a la comunidad en dichos programas permite la concienciaci贸n de la sociedad hacia los problemas ambientales y su participaci贸n activa en la resoluci贸n de los mismos, y puede propiciar la continuidad a largo plazo del monitoreo. En el marco de un proyecto de restauraci贸n ecol贸gica en fincas de cacao del estado M茅rida (Venezuela) para aumentar la biodiversidad de la finca, se realiz贸 una experiencia piloto con un grupo de estudiantes entre nueve y 12 a帽os para evaluar los cambios en la biodiversidad del ecosistema, aplicable en un programa de monitoreo de la restauraci贸n ecol贸gica. Se escogieron ocho especies de himen贸pteros parasitoides de f谩cil reconocimiento como grupo indicador. Los estudiantes participaron en el montaje de las trampas para la captura de insectos, en la recolecci贸n del material y en la identificaci贸n de los indicadores. La experiencia generada en este proyecto permiti贸 aportar recomendaciones de cara a la realizaci贸n de un protocolo de monitoreo de la restauraci贸n ecol贸gica con participaci贸n de escuelas rurales de educaci贸n primaria

    The Corine Land Cover methodology, is a french methodology adapted by the Agustin Codazzi Geography Institute (Igac) and the Hidrology, Meteorology and Enviromental Studies (Ideam) for Colombia and it is the assessment of land cover using Landsat satelite images. In this research, the space-temporary assessment of the watershed coverage of the Mecha creek in the Chicamocha river basin was done using Landsat 8 images, between 2014 and 2015, wich were orthorectified, combined using Erdas Software. These were also cut according to the spectral signatures of the selected bands in the ArcGis 10.0 program, and adjusted with images of Google Earth Pro and configured with the use of the National legend coverages at 1:100.000 proposed by Ideam. It was also observed that the p谩ramo vegetation is highly fragmented, with a tendency to completely disappear, because of increasing agricultural areas and mining operations; significantly deteriorating the w谩ter capacity of the creek that supplies the aqueduct of the Municipality of Oicat谩. It is concluded that this methodology becomes a hifhly reliable tool for determining spatio-temporal coverage changes in order to be the basis for the decisi贸n-making related coverage in order to protection and conservation.La metodolog铆a Corine Land Cover, es una metodolog铆a francesa adaptada por el Instituto Geogr谩fico Agust铆n Codazzi (IGAC) y el Instituto de Hidrolog铆a, Meteorolog铆a y Estudios Ambientales (Ideam) para Colombia; consiste en la evaluaci贸n de coberturas de la tierra mediante el uso de im谩genes satelitales tipo Landsat. En esta investigaci贸n, se realiz贸 la evaluaci贸n espacio temporal de coberturas de la microcuenca quebrada Mecha, cuenca del r铆o La Vega, mediante el uso de im谩genes Landsat 8, de los a帽os 2014 y 2015, las cuales fueron ortorrectificadas, combinadas por el Software Erdas, cortadas seg煤n las firmas espectrales de las bandas seleccionadas en el programa ArcGis 10.0, y ajustadas con im谩genes de Google Earth Pro, configur谩ndose bajo el uso de la leyenda nacional de coberturas a escala 1: 100.000 propuesta por el Ideam. Se observ贸, que la vegetaci贸n de p谩ramo est谩 altamente fragmentada, con tendencia a la total desaparici贸n, por el aumento de las 谩reas de cultivos y explotaciones mineras, deteriorando significativamente la capacidad h铆drica de la quebrada que surte el acueducto del municipio de Oicat谩. Se concluye que esta metodolog铆a se convierte en una herramienta altamente confiable para la determinaci贸n de cambios espaciotemporales de coberturas con el fin de ser la base para la toma de decisiones de protecci贸n y conservaci贸n

    Ephemeroptera associated with eight rivers in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia

    The Ephemeroptera are an order of insects very important in the benthic community, being bio-indicators of water quality, considering key conservation. Despite the dense hydrographic network of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM), Colombia Caribbean region, knowledge of aquatic macroinvertebrates assemblage is insufficient; limnological studies have focused mostly on the Gaira River. The aim of this study was to determine the composition and structure of the order Ephemeroptera in eight rivers of the SNSM. The samples were collected between October-November 2013. In situ physical and chemical parameters were measured; nutrients and microorganisms were analyzed in the laboratory. In addition, the taxonomic composition and abundance was determined; Likewise Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) with the physico-chemical and microbiological biological parameters was performed. 1924 individuals distributed in five families and 12 genera were collected. The most abundant taxa were Leptohyphes (25 %), Baetodes (25 %), and Prebaetodes (9 %). According to the CCA, the temperature was the variable that best explained the variance of the presence of taxa. The basins of the SNSM remain important reservoirs of diversity of aquatic organisms. The results are a contribution to the knowledge of the order Ephemeroptera

A pesar de la densa red hidrogr谩fica de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM), regi贸n Caribe de Colombia, el conocimiento de los ensamblajes de macroinvertebrados acu谩ticos es insuficiente. Los estudios limnol贸gicos se han centrado mayormente en el r铆o Gaira. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar la composici贸n y estructura del orden Ephemeroptera en ocho r铆os de la SNSM. Las muestras fueron colectadas entre octubre-noviembre de 2013. Se midieron par谩metros f铆sicos-qu铆micos in situ, los nutrientes y microorganismos se analizaron en laboratorio. Adem谩s, se determin贸 la composici贸n y la abundancia taxon贸mica; as铆 mismo se realiz贸 un An谩lisis de Correspondencia Can贸nica (ACC) con los par谩metros biol贸gicos, f铆sico-qu铆micos y microbiol贸gicos. Se colectaron un total de 1924 individuos distribuidos en 5 familias y 12 g茅neros. Los taxa m谩s abundantes fueron Leptohyphes (25 %), Baetodes (25 %) y Prebaetodes (9 %). De acuerdo con el ACC la temperatura fue la variable que mejor explic贸 la varianza de la presencia de los taxones. Los afluentes de la SNSM son importantes reservorios de diversidad de organismos acu谩ticos. Los resultados obtenidos son un aporte al conocimiento del orden Ephemeroptera
