How to Understand LMMSE Transceiver Design for MIMO Systems From Quadratic Matrix Programming
In this paper, a unified linear minimum mean-square-error (LMMSE) transceiver
design framework is investigated, which is suitable for a wide range of
wireless systems. The unified design is based on an elegant and powerful
mathematical programming technology termed as quadratic matrix programming
(QMP). Based on QMP it can be observed that for different wireless systems,
there are certain common characteristics which can be exploited to design LMMSE
transceivers e.g., the quadratic forms. It is also discovered that evolving
from a point-to-point MIMO system to various advanced wireless systems such as
multi-cell coordinated systems, multi-user MIMO systems, MIMO cognitive radio
systems, amplify-and-forward MIMO relaying systems and so on, the quadratic
nature is always kept and the LMMSE transceiver designs can always be carried
out via iteratively solving a number of QMP problems. A comprehensive framework
on how to solve QMP problems is also given. The work presented in this paper is
likely to be the first shoot for the transceiver design for the future
ever-changing wireless systems.Comment: 31 pages, 4 figures, Accepted by IET Communication
Robust Transmissions in Wireless Powered Multi-Relay Networks with Chance Interference Constraints
In this paper, we consider a wireless powered multi-relay network in which a
multi-antenna hybrid access point underlaying a cellular system transmits
information to distant receivers. Multiple relays capable of energy harvesting
are deployed in the network to assist the information transmission. The hybrid
access point can wirelessly supply energy to the relays, achieving multi-user
gains from signal and energy cooperation. We propose a joint optimization for
signal beamforming of the hybrid access point as well as wireless energy
harvesting and collaborative beamforming strategies of the relays. The
objective is to maximize network throughput subject to probabilistic
interference constraints at the cellular user equipment. We formulate the
throughput maximization with both the time-switching and power-splitting
schemes, which impose very different couplings between the operating parameters
for wireless power and information transfer. Although the optimization problems
are inherently non-convex, they share similar structural properties that can be
leveraged for efficient algorithm design. In particular, by exploiting
monotonicity in the throughput, we maximize it iteratively via customized
polyblock approximation with reduced complexity. The numerical results show
that the proposed algorithms can achieve close to optimal performance in terms
of the energy efficiency and throughput.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figure
Hybrid Transceiver Optimization for Multi-Hop Communications
Multi-hop communication with the aid of large-scale antenna arrays will play
a vital role in future emergence communication systems. In this paper, we
investigate amplify-and-forward based and multiple-input multiple-output
assisted multi-hop communication, in which all nodes employ hybrid
transceivers. Moreover, channel errors are taken into account in our hybrid
transceiver design. Based on the matrix-monotonic optimization framework, the
optimal structures of the robust hybrid transceivers are derived. By utilizing
these optimal structures, the optimizations of analog transceivers and digital
transceivers can be separated without loss of optimality. This fact greatly
simplifies the joint optimization of analog and digital transceivers. Since the
optimization of analog transceivers under unit-modulus constraints is
non-convex, a projection type algorithm is proposed for analog transceiver
optimization to overcome this difficulty. Based on the derived analog
transceivers, the optimal digital transceivers can then be derived using
matrix-monotonic optimization. Numeral results obtained demonstrate the
performance advantages of the proposed hybrid transceiver designs over other
existing solutions.Comment: 32 pages, 6 figures. This manuscript has been submitted to IEEE

Robust Iterative Transceiver Beamforming For Multipair Two-Way Distributed Relay Networks
OAPA In this paper, the transceiver beamforming problem is studied for multipair two-way distributed relay networks, particularly with multi-antenna user nodes and in the presence of channel state errors. With multi-antenna setting on the user nodes, some of the usual signal processing tasks are shifted from the relay nodes to the user nodes with the proposed transceiver beamforming designs. The transmit beamforming vectors, distributed relay coefficients and the receive beamforming vectors are obtained by iteratively solving three sub-problems, each having a closed-form solution. The tasks of maximizing desired signal power, and reducing inter-pair interference (IPI) and noise are thus allocated to different iteration steps. By this arrangement, the transmit and receive beamformers of each user are responsible for improving its own performance and the distributed relay nodes with simple amplify-and-forward protocol aim at creating a comfortable communication environment for all user pairs. With respect to the channel uncertainty, two relay strategies are proposed considering two different requirements from the communication network: sum relay output power and individual relay output power. Our simulation demonstrates that the performance improvement can be very significant through cooperation of the three components, especially when the number of relay nodes is large
