Job shop configuration optimization at Tinker Air Force Base
This paper discusses a large simulation model that was developed to aid the reconstruc tion efforts after a disastrous fire at Tinker Air Force Base. The model, developed in SLAM, facilitated the analysis and efficient design of the functional layout that replaced the previous machine-based layout in the appropriate number of machines to place within a modular repair center (MRC), stacker capacity for in-process inventory, location of elevators for sending parts to the conveyor, and the optimal design and routing scheme for overhead conveyor system. The new layout, as predicted by the simulation model, has proven to be quite effective compared with the pre fire layout. Improvements that have been achieved include a 50 to 80% decrease in material handling, substantive decrease in flow times, better manage ment control of part transfers, 1.8 million savings resulting from higher direct labor efficiency.Yeshttps://us.sagepub.com/en-us/nam/manuscript-submission-guideline

TDRSS operations control analysis study
The use of an operational Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS) and the remaining ground stations for the STDN (GSTDN) was investigated. The operational aspects of TDRSS concepts, GSTDN as a 14-site network, and GSTDN as a 7 site-network were compared and operations control concepts for the configurations developed. Man/machine interface, scheduling system, and hardware/software tradeoff analyses were among the factors considered in the analysis
Providing Rational for Further Funding Additive Manufacturing Efforts in the Air Force
Extremely long lead times for legacy aircraft replacement parts often exceed 120 days and cost 3 to 4 times the original price drives a search for alternative manufacturing methods such as additive manufacturing. Currently, the method to procuring a legacy replacement for aircraft such as the C-130 is daunting and at times, impossible. Through a comprehensive knowledge collection of organizational data the Air Force body of knowledge increases and provides actionable data to decision makers which has the potential of dramatically decreasing part wait times and procurement. The proposed, intuitive decision analysis framework mapped out in this research provides relevant direction for potential candidates considering additive manufacturing alternatives within their organizations. As result of this study, interested parties now have an abridged guide to costs, expenses, and challenges of setting up an Additive Manufacturing facility within their establishments
