    The Trajectory of IT in Healthcare at HICSS: A Literature Review, Analysis, and Future Directions

    Research has extensively demonstrated that healthcare industry has rapidly implemented and adopted information technology in recent years. Research in health information technology (HIT), which represents a major component of the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, demonstrates similar findings. In this paper, review the literature to better understand the work on HIT that researchers have conducted in HICSS from 2008 to 2017. In doing so, we identify themes, methods, technology types, research populations, context, and emerged research gaps from the reviewed literature. With much change and development in the HIT field and varying levels of adoption, this review uncovers, catalogs, and analyzes the research in HIT at HICSS in this ten-year period and provides future directions for research in the field

    An investigation of factors affecting technology acceptance and use decisions by Australian allied health therapists

    The research reported in this paper describes the development, empirical validation and analysis of a model of technology acceptance by Australian occupational therapists. The study described involved the collection of quantitative data through a national survey, with over 2000 responses and a longitudinal case study within the community health sector. Results provide qualitative and quantitative support for the proposed model and demonstrate the inadequacy of traditional models of technology acceptance when applied to the health sector. This work extends technology acceptance studies into new realms of the health sector and highlights the need for a broadening of health IT research, and particularly technology acceptance studies, to encompass a more holistic and inclusive view of those who work in healthcare in order to gain a greater understanding of its complexities and how IS implementation success can be enhanced in this arena

    Open Data Diffusion for Service Innovation: An Inductive Case Study on Cultural Open Data Services

    Information Systems research on Open Data has been primarily focused on its contribution to e-government inquiries, government transparency, and open government. Recently, Open Data has been explored as a catalyser for service innovation as a consequence of big claims around the potential of such initiatives in terms of additional value that can be injected into the worldwide economy. Subsequently, the Open Data Services academic conversation was structured (Lindman et al. 2013a). The research project presented in this paper is an interpretive case study that was carried out to explore the factors that influence the diffusion of Open Data for new service development. This paper contributes to this debate by providing an interpretive inductive case study (Walsham 1995) of a tourism company that successfully turned several city authorities’ raw open datasets into a set of valuable services. Results demonstrate that 16 factors and 68 related variables are the most relevant in the process of diffusion of open data for new service development. Furthermore, this paper demonstrates the suitability of Social Constructionism and interpretive case study research to inductively generate knowledge in this field

    Meaningful Use of Electronic Health Records for Physician Collaboration: A Patient Centered Health Care Perspective

    EHRs (Electronic Health Records), can contribute greatly to improving care and managing the rising costs of healthcare. The use and the integration of EHRs (Electronic Health Records) in supporting collaboration to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare remains a challenge. It appears that the physicians are at the center of this bottleneck. As healthcare is provided by interdisciplinary teams of clinicians and collaboration and coordination are key to success. Literature suggests reasons for the limited use relate to policy, financial and usability considerations, but it does not provide an understanding of reasons for physicians\u27 limited interaction and adaptation of EHR. This paper investigates how meaningful use of EHRs by physicians enable patient centered healthcare to be achieved. Following an analysis of qualitative data, collected in a case study at a hospital using interviews, this research shows how a collaborative technology architecture can enable the reduction in the costs of healthcare and improvements in the quality of care by enabling more patient centered health care

    IMPLÉMENTATION DE LA GOUVERNANCE DES TI DANS UNE ORGANISATION PUBLIQUE RÉGIONALE

    International audiencePrivate sector companies are mobilizing to adopt IT governance frameworks to control their information systems and increase the profitability of their IT investments. Today, public organizations have come to adopt the same approach. The study of IT governance in the public sector has interested several researchers in recent years. However, there is still a lack of literature concerning its implementation in developing countries and especially in a context of regionalization. The case study in this article shows how a "regional public organization" has implemented its IT governance framework in a regionalization context. The results of this study show that the intentional implementation of the mechanisms, with reference to the governance guidelines of the central top management, was done without major complications. However, the organization should make a lot of efforts to "decentralize" processes at the regional level to better support IT projects with regional specificities, and to improve its structures.Les entreprises du secteur privĂ© se sont mobilisĂ©es pour adopter des cadres de gouvernance des TI afin de contrĂŽler leurs systĂšmes d’information et augmenter la rentabilitĂ© de leurs investissements en technologies de l’information. Aujourd’hui, les organisations publiques ont fini par adopter la mĂȘme approche. L’étude de la gouvernance des TI dans le secteur public a intĂ©ressĂ© plusieurs chercheurs ces derniĂšres annĂ©es. Cependant, il existe encore un manque en littĂ©rature concernant son implĂ©mentation dans les pays en voie de dĂ©veloppement et surtout dans un contexte de rĂ©gionalisation. L’étude de cas menĂ©e dans cet article, montre comment « une organisation publique rĂ©gionale » a implĂ©mentĂ© son cadre de gouvernance des TI dans un contexte de rĂ©gionalisation. Les rĂ©sultats de cette Ă©tude montrent que l’implĂ©mentation intentionnelle des mĂ©canismes, en se rĂ©fĂ©rant aux orientations de gouvernance de la direction centrale, s’est faite sans grandes complications.
