The Trajectory of IT in Healthcare at HICSS: A Literature Review, Analysis, and Future Directions
Research has extensively demonstrated that healthcare industry has rapidly implemented and adopted information technology in recent years. Research in health information technology (HIT), which represents a major component of the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, demonstrates similar findings. In this paper, review the literature to better understand the work on HIT that researchers have conducted in HICSS from 2008 to 2017. In doing so, we identify themes, methods, technology types, research populations, context, and emerged research gaps from the reviewed literature. With much change and development in the HIT field and varying levels of adoption, this review uncovers, catalogs, and analyzes the research in HIT at HICSS in this ten-year period and provides future directions for research in the field
Enterprise Content Management - A Literature Review
Managing information and content on an enterprise-wide scale is challenging. Enterprise content management (ECM) can be considered as an integrated approach to information management. While this concept received much attention from practitioners, ECM research is still an emerging field of IS research. Most authors that deal with ECM claim that there is little scholarly literature available. After approximately one decade of ECM research, this paper provides an in-depth review of the body of academic research: the ECM domain, its evolution, and main topics are characterized. An established ECM research framework is adopted, refined, and explained with its associated elements and working definitions. On this basis, 68 articles are reviewed, classified, and concepts are derived. Prior research is synthesized and findings are integrated in a concept-centric way. Further, implications for research and practice, including future trends, are drawn
The Tale of e-Government: A Review of the Stories that Have Been Told So Far and What is Yet to Come
Since its first appearance, the concept of e-Government has evolved into a recognized means that has helped the public sector to increase its efficiency and effectiveness. A lot of research has therefore been done in this area to elaborate on the different aspects encompassing this concept. However, when looking at the existing e-Government literature, research mostly focuses on one specific aspect of e-Government and there are few generic publications that provide an overview of the diversity of this interdisciplinary research field over a longer term period. This study analyzes the abstracts of eight e-Government journals from 2000 to 2016 by means of a quantitative text mining analysis, backed by a qualitative Delphi approach. The article concludes with a discussion on the findings and implications as well as directions for future research
Celebrating HICSS50: The Past, Present, and Future of HICSS
The Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS) celebrated its 50th anniversary (HICSS-50) in January, 2017. To mark the occasion and to pay respect to the significant standing of this conference in the global IS community, the Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS) organized a special section on âCelebrating HICSS50: The Past, Present, and Future of HICSS Conferenceâ. In this editorial, we share the guest editorsâ perspectives on HICSS and summarize the three papers in the special section
Demand-oriented Competency Development in a Manufacturing Context: The Relevance of Process and Knowledge Modeling
Competency management is a crucial success factor for organizations in the area of tension between knowledge management, human resource management, and process management, and has to be considered from a knowledge economy perspective. A basis for developing appropriate qualification measures in organizations is the comparison of necessary and available competencies. Given the time and cost intensity of the comparison process, the use of appropriate methods is of particular relevance for enterprises. This paper presents a procedural method and a software tool which enable resource-saving comparisons. Usually, employeesâ âto competenciesâ are determined on a strategic level. Currently available âis competenciesâ can be derived from the actual knowledge transfer or from existing competence profiles. The method and tool first allow for the appropriate visualization of both competencies. After an automatized comparison of both contents, an overview of given and missing âto competenciesâ will be provided. Not available competencies can be addressed as qualification requirements and reflections regarding staffing or task allocation can be conducted
Critical Issues in Enterprise Architecting â A Literature Review
Enterprise Architecture (EA) has been identified as a means to Business-/IT-Alignment, cost reduction or to facilitate change. Research has been focusing on the effectiveness of EA management while the enterprise architecting process is the process of developing, managing, utilizing and maintaining architectural descriptions (ADs) for EA. In this paper we present the results of a literature review on the process of enterprise architecting. Our research contribution is a consolidated view on the challenges and issues arising throughout the architecting process
