Boolean circuit manipulation is one of the most important techniques generally used in the design automation. To extend it for future design paradigms, we study two of the most important Boolean circuit rewriting techniques, redundancy addition and removal (RAR) and functional decomposition, and explore the possibility of unifying these two techniques on a unified Boolean circuit optimization platform. From problem formulation, theoretical analysis, to the comparison of pros and cons in the related algorithms, such unification exploration enlights us several interesting observations and conclusions in the technique of circuit rewriting. The first is a claim that constraint deduction in RAR is a mechanism equivalent to perform constraint solving and explore Craig interpolation. The second is a novel algorithm that embeds the Craig interpolant generation in SAT solving without constructing resolution graph and thus serves as a white-box technique to increase the controllability, flexibility, and capability in optimization. The third is an integrated algorithm, a framework for circuit resubstitution with the novel interplant constructing algorithm. The experimental results show that our algorithm has the advantages over the prior interpolant generation techniques in both memory usage and interpolation circuit size.口試委員會審定書 #謝 i要 iiBSTRACT iiiONTENTS ivIST OF FIGURES viiIST OF TABLES ixhapter 1 Introduction 1.1 Propositional Craig Interpolation 2.2 Boolean Circuit Rewriting 4.2.1 Redundancy Addition and Removal (RAR) 4.2.2 Functional Decomposition 5.3 Contributions of this Thesis 6.3.1 Exploring the Unification of RAR and Resubstitution 7.3.2 Innovated Interpolant Generation without Constructing Resolution Graph 7.3.3 A Proposed Framework for Resubstitution Algorithms 9.4 Organization of this Thesis 9hapter 2 Preliminaries 10.1 Boolean Satisfiability Problem and Related Techniques 10.1.1 Conflict-Driven SAT Solver 11.1.2 Conflict Analysis and Non-chronological Backtracking 14.1.3 Resolution Graph of Unsatisfiable Proof 16.1.4 A Brief Example in SAT Implication and Resolution Graphs 17.1.5 A Brief Example in Resolution Graph of the Unsatisfiability Proof 18.2 Propositional Craig Interpolant Construction 20.2.1 Pudlák’s Algorithm 20.2.2 McMillan’s Algorithm 22.3 Boolean Circuit Optimization 23.3.1 Redundancy Addition and Removal 24.3.2 SAT-Controlled RAR 27.3.3 Functional Dependency and Resubstitution 30hapter 3 Comparison between RAR and Resubstitution 33.1 Comparison on Problem Formulation 33.2 Theoretical Comparison 38.2.1 The Meaning of Redundancy from the Viewpoint of Boolean Function Manipulations 39.2.2 The Meaning of Redundancy Addition and Removal from the Viewpoint of Boolean Function Manipulations 41.3 Algorithm Comparison 46hapter 4 Interpolant Generation without Constructing Resolution Graph 51.1 Overview of Our Algorithm 51.2 Interpolant under Cofactor Subspace 53.3 Sub-interpolant Composition 57.4 Optimization Rules 59.5 Flexibility in the Interpolant Generation 61.6 A Novel Framework for Resubstitution Algorithms 62hapter 5 Experimental Results 66.1 Memory Overhead Comparison 66.2 Interpolation Circuit Size Comparison 68.3 Application to the Functional Dependency Identification Problem 69hapter 6 Conclusion and Future work 71EFERENCE 7
