    Ethernet - a survey on its fields of application

    During the last decades, Ethernet progressively became the most widely used local area networking (LAN) technology. Apart from LAN installations, Ethernet became also attractive for many other fields of application, ranging from industry to avionics, telecommunication, and multimedia. The expanded application of this technology is mainly due to its significant assets like reduced cost, backward-compatibility, flexibility, and expandability. However, this new trend raises some problems concerning the services of the protocol and the requirements for each application. Therefore, specific adaptations prove essential to integrate this communication technology in each field of application. Our primary objective is to show how Ethernet has been enhanced to comply with the specific requirements of several application fields, particularly in transport, embedded and multimedia contexts. The paper first describes the common Ethernet LAN technology and highlights its main features. It reviews the most important specific Ethernet versions with respect to each application field’s requirements. Finally, we compare these different fields of application and we particularly focus on the fundamental concepts and the quality of service capabilities of each proposal

    Teknologi telekomunikasi dan teknologi internet merupakan teknologiyang paling digemari di seluruh dunia. Dalam perkembangan teknologi inimemungkinkan terobosan baru dalam belajar secara mobile menggunakanperangkat IT genggam atau disebut mobile learning (m-learning). M-Learning memiliki beberapa kelebihan di antaranya adalah kemampuanbelajar kapan-pun di mana-pun. Mobile learning (m-learning) berbasismultimedia pada implementasinya membutuhkan bandwith yang besar untukmengakses file-file video. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut dipilih teknologikomunikasi 3G karena memiliki kapasitas yang lebih besar dibandingteknologi sebelumnya. Problem yang ada adalah perangkat pembelajaran m-learning memiliki keterbatasan sumber daya dan keragaman platformsehingga diperlukan rancangan yang mampu menjamin kompatibilitas antaraberbagai macam platform.     The state of the art in information technology and educational technologies is evolving constantly. Courses taught are subject to constant change from organisational and subject-specific reasons. Evolution and change affect educators and developers of computer-based teaching and learning environments alike – both often being unprepared to respond effectively. A large number of educational systems are designed and developed without change and evolution in mind. We will present our approach to the design and maintenance of these systems in rapidly evolving environments and illustrate the consequences of evolution and change for these systems and for the educators and developers responsible for their implementation and deployment. We discuss various factors of change, illustrated by a Web-based virtual course, with the objective of raising an awareness of this issue of evolution and change in computer-supported teaching and learning environments. This discussion leads towards the establishment of a development and management framework for teaching and learning systems
