Selection of Statistical Software for Solving Big Data Problems for Teaching
The need for analysts with expertise in big data software is becoming more apparent in 4 today’s society. Unfortunately, the demand for these analysts far exceeds the number 5 available. A potential way to combat this shortage is to identify the software sought by 6 employers and to align this with the software taught by universities. Selecting Undergraduate Business Majors
The paper begins with a brief review of the literature and how business students choose their major in the U.S. and we list the most popular majors in the U.S. Universities. We also talk about the factors that influenced student’s choice. In our next research project, we will not only use a larger sample size but also the sample will come from a few universities to reduce the sampling bias. In this paper, we also talk about changing trends in international students. We talk about the large group of Chinese, Indian, and Arabic students, and we show that with literature and graphical support. In the next section, we analyze one of the up and coming new business majors ―Business Analytics‖ We finish the paper with a discussion of growth of international students both at graduate and undergraduate level, and how we will address the shortcomings of this paper with our next project
An Exploratory Study of Patient Falls
Debate continues between the contribution of education level and clinical expertise in the nursing practice environment. Research suggests a link between Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing (BSN) nurses and positive patient outcomes such as lower mortality, decreased falls, and fewer medication errors. Purpose: To examine if there a negative correlation between patient falls and the level of nurse education at an urban hospital located in Midwest Illinois during the years 2010-2014? Methods: A retrospective crosssectional cohort analysis was conducted using data from the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) from the years 2010-2014. Sample: Inpatients aged ≥ 18 years who experienced a unintentional sudden descent, with or without injury that resulted in the patient striking the floor or object and occurred on inpatient nursing units. Results: The regression model was constructed with annual patient falls as the dependent variable and formal education and a log transformed variable for percentage of certified nurses as the independent variables. The model overall is a good fit, F (2,22) = 9.014, p = .001, adj. R2 = .40. Conclusion: Annual patient falls will decrease by increasing the number of nurses with baccalaureate degrees and/or certifications from a professional nursing board-governing body

Motivational Interviewing Impact on Cardiovascular Disease
abstract: Harm reduction in cardiovascular disease is a significant problem worldwide. Providers, families, and healthcare agencies are feeling the burdens imparted by these diseases. Not to mention missed days of work and caregiver strain, the losses are insurmountable. Motivational interviewing (MI) is gaining momentum as a method of stimulating change through intrinsic motivation by resolving ambivalence toward change (Ma, Zhou, Zhou, & Huang, 2014). If practitioners can find methods of educating the public in a culturally-appropriate and sensitive manner, and if they can work with community stakeholders to organize our resources to make them more accessible to the people, we may find that simple lifestyle changes can lead to risk reduction of cardiovascular diseases. By working with our community leaders and identifying barriers unique to each population, we can make positive impacts on a wide range of issues that markedly impact our healthcare systems
Towards business integration as a service 2.0 (BIaaS 2.0)
Cloud Computing Business Framework (CCBF) is a framework for designing and implementation of Could Computing solutions. This proposal focuses on how CCBF can help to address linkage in Cloud Computing implementations. This leads to the development of Business Integration as a Service 1.0 (BIaaS 1.0) allowing different services, roles and functionalities to work together in a linkage-oriented framework where the outcome of one service can be input to another, without the need to translate between domains or languages. BIaaS 2.0 aims to allow automation, enhanced security, advanced risk modelling and improved collaboration between processes in BIaaS 1.0. The benefits from adopting BIaaS 1.0 and developing BIaaS 2.0 are illustrated using a case study from the University of Southampton and several collaborators including IBM US. BIaaS 2.0 can work with mainstream technologies such as scientific workflows, and the proposal and demonstration of BIaaS 2.0 will be aimed to certainly benefit industry and academia. © 2011 IEEE

A Conversation with Shayle R. Searle
Born in New Zealand, Shayle Robert Searle earned a bachelor's degree (1949)
and a master's degree (1950) from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand.
After working for an actuary, Searle went to Cambridge University where he
earned a Diploma in mathematical statistics in 1953. Searle won a Fulbright
travel award to Cornell University, where he earned a doctorate in animal
breeding, with a strong minor in statistics in 1959, studying under Professor
Charles Henderson. In 1962, Cornell invited Searle to work in the university's
computing center, and he soon joined the faculty as an assistant professor of
biological statistics. He was promoted to associate professor in 1965, and
became a professor of biological statistics in 1970. Searle has also been a
visiting professor at Texas A&M University, Florida State University,
Universit\"{a}t Augsburg and the University of Auckland. He has published
several statistics textbooks and has authored more than 165 papers. Searle is a
Fellow of the American Statistical Association, the Royal Statistical Society,
and he is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute. He also
has received the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt U.S. Senior Scientist
Award, is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and was
recently awarded the D.Sc. Honoris Causa by his alma mater, Victoria University
