Industrial Feasibility of Private Information Retrieval

A popular security problem in database management is how to guarantee to a querying party that the database owner will not learn anything about the data that is retrieved --- a problem known as Private Information Retrieval (PIR). While a variety of PIR schemes are known, they are rarely considered for practical use cases yet. We investigate the feasibility of PIR in the telecommunications world to open up data of carriers to external parties. To this end, we first provide a comparative survey of the current PIR state of the art (including ORAM schemes as a generalized concept) as well as implementation and analysis of two PIR schemes for the considered use case. While an overall conclusion is that PIR techniques are not too far away from practical use in specific cases, we see ORAM as a more suitable candidate for further R\&D investment

Thirty-eight (38) organizations are listed and described that catalog and file information in their data systems on fuel and oxidizers. The fuels include hydrogen, methane and hydrazine-type fuels; the oxidizers include oxygen, fluorine, flox, nitrogen tetroxide and ozone. The type of available information covers thermophysical properties, propellant systems, propellant fires-control-extinguishment, propellant explosions, propellant combustion, propellant safety, and fluorine chemistry. These organizations have assembled and collated their information so that it will be useful in the solution of engineering problems

Technology utilization in a non-urban region: Further impact and technique of the Technology Use Studies Center, 2

The clientele served by the Technology Use Studies Center (TUSC) is updated. Manufacturing leads the list of client firms. The standard industrial classification (SIC) range of these firms is broad. Substantial numbers of college and university faculties are using TUSC services. Field operations inherent in the functions of dissemination and assistance are reviewed. Increasing emphasis among clientele is on environmental concerns and management. A record is provided of the institutions contacted and the extent of TUSC involvement with them, as well as TUSC's cooperation with agencies and organizations. The impact of TUSC and the NASA-sponsored Technology Utilization Program on other public agencies is discussed

NASA-UK STAP: A technology applications program to aid government and industry in Kentucky

There is a need for a well-defined partnership between universities, and the business and industrial community to promote the transfer of technology. In an effort to foster such a partnership, the Space Systems Program, administered by NASA, has established information dissemination centers in cooperation with various universities throughout the country. As a result of limited success in the transfer of technology to state and local units of government NASA felt that new stimuli and new approaches were needed in the public sector area. NASA selected the University of Kentucky, a land grant institution with a significant research dissemination and service role, as the site for the new program. An annual report of this program at the University of Kentucky is presented
