Power beacon-assisted energy harvesting in a half-duplex communication network under co-channel interference over a Rayleigh fading environment: Energy efficiency and outage probability analysis
In this time, energy efficiency (EE), measured in bits per Watt, has been considered as an important emerging metric in energy-constrained wireless communication networks because of their energy shortage. In this paper, we investigate power beacon assisted (PB) energy harvesting (EH) in half-duplex (HD) communication network under co-channel Interferer over Rayleigh fading environment. In this work, we investigate the model system with the time switching (TS) protocol. Firstly, the exact and asymptotic form expressions of the outage probability (OP) are analyzed and derived. Then the system EE is investigated and the influence of the primary system parameters on the system performance. Finally, we verify the correctness of the analytical expressions using Monte Carlo simulation. Finally, we can state that the simulation and analytical results are the same.Web of Science1213art. no. 257
Resource Allocation in Wireless Networks with RF Energy Harvesting and Transfer
Radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting and transfer techniques have recently
become alternative methods to power the next generation of wireless networks.
As this emerging technology enables proactive replenishment of wireless
devices, it is advantageous in supporting applications with quality-of-service
(QoS) requirement. This article focuses on the resource allocation issues in
wireless networks with RF energy harvesting capability, referred to as RF
energy harvesting networks (RF-EHNs). First, we present an overview of the
RF-EHNs, followed by a review of a variety of issues regarding resource
allocation. Then, we present a case study of designing in the receiver
operation policy, which is of paramount importance in the RF-EHNs. We focus on
QoS support and service differentiation, which have not been addressed by
previous literatures. Furthermore, we outline some open research directions.Comment: To appear in IEEE Networ
Performance analysis of SWIPT relaying systems in the presence of impulsive noise
We develop an analytical framework to characterize the effect of impulsive noise on the performance of relay-assisted simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) systems. We derive novel closed-form expressions for the pairwise error probability (PEP) considering two variants based on the availability of channel state information (CSI), namely, blind re-laying and CSI-assisted relaying. We further consider two energy harvesting (EH) techniques, i.e., instantaneous EH (IEH) and average EH (AEH). Capitalizing on the derived analytical results, we present a detailed numerical investigation of the diversity order for the underlying scenarios under the impulsive noise assumption. For the case when two relays and the availability of a direct link, it is demonstrated that the considered SWIPT system with blind AEH-relaying is able to achieve an asymptotic diversity order of less than 3, which is equal to the diversity order achieved by CSI-assisted IEH-relaying. This result suggests that, by employing the blind AEH relaying, the power consumption of the network can be reduced, due to eliminating the need of CSI estimation. This can be achieved without any performance loss. Our results further show that placing the relays close to the source can significantly mitigate the detrimental effects of impulsive noise. Extensive Monte Carlo simulation results are presented to validate the accuracy of the proposed analytical framework
Joint Transceiver Design Algorithms for Multiuser MISO Relay Systems with Energy Harvesting
In this paper, we investigate a multiuser relay system with simultaneous
wireless information and power transfer. Assuming that both base station (BS)
and relay station (RS) are equipped with multiple antennas, this work studies
the joint transceiver design problem for the BS beamforming vectors, the RS
amplify-and-forward transformation matrix and the power splitting (PS) ratios
at the single-antenna receivers. Firstly, an iterative algorithm based on
alternating optimization (AO) and with guaranteed convergence is proposed to
successively optimize the transceiver coefficients. Secondly, a novel design
scheme based on switched relaying (SR) is proposed that can significantly
reduce the computational complexity and overhead of the AO based designs while
maintaining a similar performance. In the proposed SR scheme, the RS is
equipped with a codebook of permutation matrices. For each permutation matrix,
a latent transceiver is designed which consists of BS beamforming vectors,
optimally scaled RS permutation matrix and receiver PS ratios. For the given
CSI, the optimal transceiver with the lowest total power consumption is
selected for transmission. We propose a concave-convex procedure based and
subgradient-type iterative algorithms for the non-robust and robust latent
transceiver designs. Simulation results are presented to validate the
effectiveness of all the proposed algorithms
