A Learning Perspective on Groupware Implementation

    Get PDF
We propose to look at the implementation of groupware from a learning perspective. In this paper we motivate this view and outline our research model. Research questions of the project are: What are the influential characteristics of learning for the implementation of groupware? And: how can this implementation process be improved

HR Contribution to IT Innovation Implementation: Results of Three Case Studies

    Get PDF
The theoretical and empirical investigation of information technologies (IT) innovation implementations reveals that they lack conceptual and practical support from HRM professionals. The HRM practices undertaken by HR professionals are not even discussed. We argue that HR departments should contribute to IT innovation projects by being responsible for explicitly defining job tasks that have to be automated, establishing a rewards system for those who have to learn and use a new technology and analysing the training needs of the users and providing them with adequate training. HRM should more actively intervene in IT innovation projects. Such intervention would, we believe, foster compatibility between the prior intentions of information technology, the strategies and practices, the individual users’ needs in it and the adoption of IT by the users

This study investigated and identified the obstacles facing the development of MIS in the RNS. In addition, it checks out the existence, importance and the employment of MIS in the RNS. The study applied the descriptive research design of survey type. Data were collected from a sample of 221 reflects the employees in some RNS ministries holding different job positions using stratified random sampling technique. Data collected were analyzed using frequencies count, percentages and chi square test statistics. The study revealed that MIS was not adequately employed in the RNS institutions. Therefore, it confirmed that MIS was very important to improve the management performance. The study showed that MIS was not adequately used for formulating policies and strategies in the state institutions. The study identified several obstacles facing the development of MIS in the RNS. It was recommended that proper orientation should be given to MIS development in the state. Also, training programs should be organized to ensure proper and adequate employment of MIS in generating and disseminating information. Furthermore, the RNS government should set up unified information technology policy to enable all the state institutions to obtain information required with in specific standards and criteria. The Relationship between Knowledge Sharing Behavior and the Effectiveness of Information Systems Strategic Planning (ISSP): An Empirical Study in Taiwan

    Get PDF
“Improving information systems strategic planning” remains among one of top ten issues facing IS/IT executives and corporate general managers. As e-business strategies have received growing attention from enterprises, information systems strategic planning (ISSP) is now considered critical in developing a successful e-strategy. However, numerous researchers have examined the relationship between various factors and the effectiveness of information systems strategic planning, the effects of knowledge sharing behavior on the effectiveness of information systems strategic planning still have little been examined. The main purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between knowledge sharing and the effectiveness of information systems strategic planning. Furthermore, we explore the factors influencing knowledge sharing behavior among stakeholders in the ISSP process. Data were collected by a questionnaire survey sent to the IS directors of 805 large companies in Taiwan. Survey results indicate that knowledge sharing behavior influence of the effectiveness of information systems strategic planning. The implications of this finding for practice and future research are also examined herein

StratIT – A Framework Describing the Contents of IT Strategies. Background and Approach

    Get PDF
Until today no consensus has been found regarding the contents of IT strategies. This results in uncer-tainty when formulating the topical areas of IT strategy documents. The Special Interest Group (SIG) “StrateÂŹgisches Informationsmanagement (SIM)” (Strategic Information Management) of the “Gesellschaft fĂŒr Informatik” (German Informatics Society)” addresses this gap by developing a framework that defines generic perspectives, domains, and elements of an IT strategy. Within the group, researchers and practiÂŹtioners bundle their insights and experiences in the development of the framework named “StratIT”. We report on the current status of work and develop a structured basis for discussion. In addition, we deÂŹscribe the methodical and scientific foundations and the “modus operandi” of the SIG. Our intent is to communicate the perceived problem, our approach, and the developed artifact to an international audiÂŹence, to get feedback and also to exchange ideas

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF FACILITATORS FOR ENHANCING SISP SUCCESS AND DYNAMIC CAPABILITIES

    Get PDF
Strategic Information Systems Planning (SISP) has been recognized as one of the most essential tasks for better management and supporting strategic use of IS/IT in the current dynamic and increasingly digitalized environments. However, undertaking SISP is difficult, because organisations need to take multiple planning perspectives, including managerial, environmental and organisational perspectives all at the same time. To achieve and sustain organisational performance and competitive advantage, various facilitators affecting successful undertaking of SISP process, and the relationship regarding the facilitators and SISP success, need to be well identified and understood. The relevant SISP facilitators are selected to enhance SISP success and to improve dynamic capabilities. This paper proposes a model to show the relationship between six critical facilitators and SISP success. This research intends to undertake the survey of top 1,000 Korean large organisations to examine the relationships and test the proposed research hypothesis. A pilot study was carried out to confirm the adequacy and reliability of the research instrument, which final items are presented in this paper

Using Grounded Theory in the Analysis of Literature: The Case of Strategic Information Systems Planning

    Get PDF
Strategic Information Systems Planning (SISP) has been widely researched, yet continues to be ranked as a key concern to IS managers. There have thus been calls for a strong theory to underpin SISP. In this study a theory is developed by integrating the findings from several major research studies published in the academic literature. The method employed is the grounded theory method, which is a qualitative research approach whose goal is specifically the generation of theory from data. The resultant theory possesses some unique characteristics as a result of using the grounded theory method
