Forecasting electricity consumption using SARIMA method in IBM SPSS software

    Get PDF
Forecasting is a prediction of future values based on historical data. It can be conducted using various methods such as statistical methods or machine learning techniques. Electricity is a necessity of modern life. Hence, accurate forecasting of electricity demand is important. Overestimation will cause a waste of energy but underestimation leads to higher operation costs. Univesity Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) is a developing Malaysian technical university, therefore there is a need to forecast UTHM electricity consumption for future decisions on generating electric power, load switching, and infrastructure development. The monthly UTHM electricity consumption data exhibits seasonality-periodic fluctuations. Thus, the seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA) method was applied in IBM SPSS software to predict UTHM electricity consumption for 2019 via Box-Jenkins method and Expert Modeler. There were a total of 120 observations taken from January year 2009 to December year 2018 to build the models. The best model from both methods is SARIMA(0, 1, 1)(0, 1, 1)12. It was found that the result through the Box-Jenkins method is approximately the same with the result generated through Expert Modeler in SPSS with MAPE of 8.4%

Street light monitoring system is meant to monitor the status of each street light in various geographical areas where data transmission in these areas is limited by geographical terrain and human population. This project is to build a working prototype of Street Light Monitoring System which utilized the GSM/GPRS network to one centre monitoring system

Implementation of an Embedded System for Real Time Monitoring of Vehicular Movement in Mining Sites

    Get PDF
The designed tracking and monitoring system for opencast mines allows continuous tracking and monitoring vehicles and movable equipment in many opencast mines using Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver[1,2,3], General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)[4] unit, microcontroller along with ZigBee (programmable to operate as routers ,end devices, and coordinators by hardware specific embedded software)[5] shapes a dynamic remote system among them and other static and portable ZigBee gadgets set at key areas. Utilization of the framework would help in keeping up computerized record and investigating the execution of unreasonable scoops and dumpers sent in opencast mines. This would help in advancing the position of dumpers with every scoop relying upon the adjustment in living up to expectations and dumping spots. This would likewise help in keeping up automated participation of dumper administrators and other work force working in an opencast mine. This would further help in giving cautioning to the sign man and dumper administrator, while dumper drawing nearer close vicinity to the sign man. This would help in building two-way message correspondence among the work force occupied with an opencast mine. This would at last help in enhancing generation, efficiency and well-being in opencast mine

Design of a GSM Cell – Phone based Vehicle Monitoring & Theft Security System

This project will focus on developing an enhancement of the vehicle alarm security system via SMS. The system will manipulate a mobile phone to send SMS (Short Message Service). Even though the SMS can be sent using the features available in the mobile, the objective of this project is to activate the SMS sending by the mobile phone using external program, connected physically to the mobile phone. The study of telecommunication is an interesting field because it involves digital signal processing, signal and systems, programming and more. This inspires people to improvise the technology into daily use. In this project, the technology of telecommunication, to be specific; SMS, is integrated or improvised to the present vehicle security system. Instead of human to human telecommunication, this system creates new entity which is machine to human telecommunication. This system is an upgrading and improving vehicle security system by integrating SMS features to alert vehicle owners whenever intrusion occurs. This project involves hardware and software parts construction and the integration of both parts to create the system. We succeed in achieving the objective and in fact, add another feature to the system which will initiates a call to the owner after sending the SMS. In the end of this project, we will document all the hardware and software development and provide a simulation model of the system. An interfacing mobile is also connected to the microcontroller, which is in turn, connected to the engine. Once, the vehicle is being stolen, the information is being used by the vehicle owner for further processing. The information is passed onto the central processing insurance system which is in the form of the sms, the microcontroller unit reads the sms and sends it to the Global Positioning System (GPS) module and using the triangulation method, GPS module feeds the exact location in the form of latitude and longitude to the user’s mobile. By reading the signals received by the mobile, one can control the ignition of the engine

REAL TIME DATA ACQUISITION AND MONITORING OF PATIENTS WITH CORONARY HEART DISEASE IN A HOME ENVIRONMENT

The high mortality rate associated with cardiovascular related diseases requires the implementation of a personalised, ubiquitous health monitoring system. With the recent advancements of wireless sensor network technologies, these study proposes a real time data acquisition and monitoring system for patients with a track history of coronary heart diseases based on the implementation of a microcontroller, GSM Module and temperature sensors. This pervasive healthcare system will provide a round the clock monitoring and has an in built alerting mechanism for detecting anomalies in cardiac activities. The aim of the study is to minimize the need for caretakers and help the gravely ill senior citizens to survive an independent life. Apart from that, this study will help reduce the mortality rate of victim by shortening the response time of medical team to the victims. In these study, the proposed design mechanism will consider the following key criteria namely safety, data security, energy efficiency, durability and cost incurred

Examination Result Retrieval via Short Messaging Service (SMS)

    Get PDF
Short Message Service (SMS) provides a mechanism fortransmitting short messages to and from wireless devices. Therefore, the aim ofthis project is to develop a system thathascapability in handling the University of Technology PETRONAS (UTP) examination result request from the students Currently, two methods usedfor the students to retrieve their exam result which are through mail and online. Failed to retrieve examresult via mail always occurred. By using Internetapplication, it requires the student presence orthe availability. Besides, busy network traffic affects student difficulties in accessing the page. Fivephases usedto develop this project. There were initiating and project planning, datagathering andanalysis, developing, testing and result analysis. Theevaluation of this prototype hasbeen categorized intotwo, userperception and system developer perception. From the result derived from the userperception, 81.67% of respondents agree this system is easy to monitor andefficient. Therefore, this exam result retrieval will use the functionality ofSMSin order to deliver examination result to UTP's student. As a conclusion, this project is successfully develop and provide one ofthemost convenient method for the student to retrieve the result as most ofthe students do have a mobile phone with SMS capability

Travel has always been a man’s best pastime, an approach to relieve from the daily stress, a halt from the tedious life and to experience the thrill of adventure. Until the last decade, camera was a traveler’s best friend but little did we know that things are going to change to a lot better. Life in today’s world is always on the move. With the advancement of technology, smart phones nowadays have boundless capabilities to feed rich user experience with interactive features. ATMA is an Android-based application for travelers to capture travel moment with multimedia integration. This application allows users to create, store and view their trips, trip related information and all the memories that bring with it. The user will also be able to share the trip information with their acquaintances through social media sharing medium such as Twitter. The idea of this project arose from the evolution of travel log formats, which reflects the need for better information regarding how travelers capture their travel activities within a day or multi-day period so that they can maximize their travel and tourism experiences. In order to develop such application, the author had conducted research on the following domains: (1) personalized travel application (2) approaches to maximize travel and tourism experiences through mobile technologies in Malaysia context. For the research methodology, this study focuses on qualitative research acquired from feedback of travelers on their experiences in using the existing system and their opinions on the new interactive application. Perak Tourism also cooperated in giving feedbacks on the prototype of this application. Using a Rapid Application Development (RAD) model, the author successfully developed an application that is user-friendly and cost-effective using Android platform. The final prototype of ATMA Android application is developed using Google AppInventor
