Also, by Romanian adhesion to EU, the emergent market to this sector is growing to entire European coverage. Education innovation through material innovation in primary education : the grow-it-yourself workshop

In recent years more STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) topics have been incorporated in mainstream public education. Although the benefits of STEM instruction are broadly recognised in secondary school curricula, STEM topics in primary education are rather limited, leaving a gap in manipulative skills building and in preparation processes for the next school level. This paper reflects on the outcomes of a design workshop attended by 12 primary school students (9 to 12 years old) in Belgium. Mycelium, a fungi-based natural material now used in innovative sustainable applications, served as a means to introduce early learners engineering basics through self-made learning tools. Students grew their own 3-D structures to build a 'Grow-It-Yourself biodegradable playground using mycelium as a primary source. The paper stems from an in-progress research that investigates the opportunities of how mycelium as a material innovation can be used as a medium to create innovation in primary education through a learning-by-design approach. Reflections on the workshop's instructional guidelines are included along with an extension of the call for support for primary school teachers delivering STEM topics in their classes

IT Innovation Capability and Returns on IT Innovation Persistence

Prior studies have shown that the IT innovation capability, a company\u27s ability to innovate systematically with IT, is not easily replicated (persistent), and the persistence tends to be more pronounced during periods when economy-wide IT budgets are declining (hard IT budgets), such the post-Y2K period. Building on resource based view we argue that companies that systematically innovate with IT have a sustained competitive advantage versus their competitors who are adopting an opportunistic approach to IT innovation or choose not to innovate with IT, and the advantage is stronger during periods of hard IT budgets. This paper studies the persistence of innovation and the dynamics of innovation output in Dutch manufacturing using firm data from three waves of the Community Innovation Surveys (CIS), pertaining to the periods 1994-1996, 1996-1998, and 1998-2000. We estimate by maximum likelihood a dynamic panel data type 2 tobit model accounting for individual effects and handling the initial conditions problem. We find that there is no evidence of true persistence in achieving technological product or process innovations, while past shares of innovative sales condition, albeit to a small extent, current shares of innovative sales.Economics ;

Innovation Seeking Strategy of IT Outsourcing on e-Europe

In this paper, we emphasize the opportunities concerning the implementation of an intelligence receptive organizational culture, that allows the fast and flexible response of companies’ strategies in the competitive e-business. Due to the promotion of an an intelligence receptive culture, e-Europe software companies start to see the Romanian IT firms as extremely attractive targets for outsourcing projects that suppose not only NOT the creation of specialized software, but also the overtaking of maintenance or suppoert services. HR Contribution to IT Innovation Implementation: Results of Three Case Studies

The theoretical and empirical investigation of information technologies (IT) innovation implementations reveals that they lack conceptual and practical support from HRM professionals. The HRM practices undertaken by HR professionals are not even discussed. We argue that HR departments should contribute to IT innovation projects by being responsible for explicitly defining job tasks that have to be automated, establishing a rewards system for those who have to learn and use a new technology and analysing the training needs of the users and providing them with adequate training. HRM should more actively intervene in IT innovation projects. Such intervention would, we believe, foster compatibility between the prior intentions of information technology, the strategies and practices, the individual users’ needs in it and the adoption of IT by the users
